  1. Hello I was reading a D&D thread and saw the frog eye trait. I believe my oranda has them. Let me find a few pictures. The first two are more recent. The last one is quite old.
  2. Don't mind the tank in disarray...Doing some updating and had to take the TMS out as my water pressure is horrible and the Python wasn't sucking up the gunk. Also Skipper and Citrus wreaked havoc on the poor anubius so they are gone as well... anyway..... My daughter took a video of them being cute. http://vid40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/cdionne77/Mobile%20Uploads/20141230_201657_zpsxh2n9pvm.mp4
  3. Have about 10 active swimmers in a bucket with tank water and air stone. Well try to get better pics later.
  4. Dear Lovely People at Koko's, I am in desperate need of your help. 128 L 2 Aqua Internal 200's 1 Ryukin Amidala 1 Oranda Cleo No ammonia Ph Levels (both) normal Nitrates and Nitrites Water clear API testing kit As you can see from the names Amidala and Cleo, they are both named after queens, hence my user name ... My Oranda is very very sick. This has been going on , on and off for a very long time, 5 months at least. Her current symptoms are: Bottom sitting, Panting, lethargicness, weightloss, whirling, large white spots that sometimes appear frayed. She can swim but it takes a lot of effort and she returns to the bottom panting 90 percent of the time. The only symptoms my Ryu has displayed have been the white spots on her dorsal fin and these have dissapeared after the use of Pimafix but she is stressed and darting. Swiming fine but looking a bit red and has dulled her colours. On the advice of many pet stores and internet research I have treated as follows/for: Ich: Given hydrogen peroxide baths and done huge water changes plus salt, and treat ich naturally if it were present. (The spots only faded for a while so...) Anti white spot: Interpret, temporary improvement followed by worsening (the spots are large not salt like so next pet store reccommended Mela fix for fungal) Fungal Infections: Mela fix, temporary improvement. Bacterial Infections: Pimafix. temporary improvement. I have fed peas just to eliminate gut problems and improve buoyancy, Bear in mind this has been across 5 months...It seems such a mess. It all seems to help but not resolve; which leads me to believe there are different things going on here, which is why I am deathly confused :/ I have also done: 25, 50 and 80 percent water changes as the forum advises for Fancies. I am at my wits end and very scared I will loose my fish, they look unhappy and tired and I realise that the variety of different treatments are stressing them out but truly have no clue what to do next. I am sad you guys, I'm not one of those owners that isn't careful and they used to be so happy. I really don't know what to do , please could you help as soon as your lives will allow. If I've missed out anything you need, or I need to pay you, don't shout at me.... just please let me know. 5. Now in their new Q tank, two japanese RW Oranda, both male. Very different then the smaller sakura, but very beautyfull if you ask me
  6. Hi all! I have new Oranda's! I estimate these are about 6 months now and getting sexually mature. I have a group of 5 of these, 3 are sakura like the two shown and 2 are RW metallic, but those are still in detox (very cloudy water). But will update on those once they are in main Q tank! I'm looking forward to grooming and keeping these in addition to my ranchu collection!
  7. They are finally in the 40B and loving the space... My camera does them no justice...They look like bright balls of orange in the tank. Citrus Skipper
  8. My beloved oranda has developed food-related swim bladder issues. He doesn't really have great balance or stability to begin with, and after feeding him ANYTHING, he becomes floaty. Yesterday he was stuck upside down for the entire day just from one bite-sized chunk of SG. I have tried NLS pellets, Soilent Green, Super Green, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen spirulina with brine shrimp, it seems like every single thing I feed him makes him float. Would adding some koi clay or probiotics to the Super Green help at all? I don't have a stove right now so I can't cook up a fancy batch of 100% homemade gel food.
  9. So this is my first video i've shared on here and the first featuring my new 38 gallon tank. I am aware that it appears my Oranda has flukes. Just noticed today, but was planning to treat after I put the new one in. Anyways, let me know what you think and like/share/comment on the video if you like too! Any advice is welcome as well.
  10. Woke up this morning to eggs everywhere! I ended up saving about 4 or so. http://youtu.be/DzXna6b7KGg
  11. Hi everyone! You may have read about my common goldfish Bubba, who is a little sick. I've decided it would be best to let my aunt take care of him since he doesn't seem to appreciate the company of other goldfish (gets stressed, bites, etc). Along with that, I am searching for a much bigger tank so I'm searching for new fancies to add to the family. Orandas, lionheads, and especially ranchus are the breeds I'm pursuing (I have no goldfish with wens, which fascinate me). Fantails, moors, and telescopes must be in season up here because it's all I can seem to find at any of the nearby pet stores. Any suggestions as to dealers I should contact? Thanks!
  12. So after looking over all the oranda tanks at Star Fisheries for a very long time, we finally decided on a young calico oranda. The decision was made easier by the fact that I wanted a smallish young fish, so that I can grow him on, along with my other two babies, and there were a lot of big (and some giant!) orandas. Also, a lot of them had recently been imported from China, and were looking quite flat and sad to be honest, which made me sad. This guy on the other hand looked happy and active, dorsal fin right up. He also had some very handsome tank mates, but Baz reeled me in and I just came home with the one! I'm also hoping that his gorgeous markings will compliment my two other fish. Anyway, please meet Matcha, named after the drink I was holding when I saw him... The photo doesn't do him justice, but its all I've got for now, he's chilling in his qt tub at the moment so I don't want to stress him by taking photos, I'll get some better pics tomorrow. He's really a side view fish, his markings and his fins are just lovely

  14. This pic was taken a few months ago. Because there are raccoons in my area and seagulls fly overhead, I had to install a hinged wired gate as a deterrent. The pond is shallow with direct sunlight for most of the day so I provided a little shade in the middle of the gate.
  15. "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIENDS!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-xxD08bM60
  16. Since you guys loved my pictures in my welcoming thread so much, I took a few more today! I felt bad because I last weighed them only ten days ago but I thought I was going crazy every time I looked at Candy Corn. He seemed super big! Turns out he put on 12g since two weeks ago. Sir Candy Corn himself demanding I give him food for his vacuum mouth. Final weigh in was 50g. Candy Corn versus my girly hand! He now fits snuggly in my palm when I pick him up. Jelly Bean! Same amount of water (maybe even less) than in Candy Corn's picture. Totally can see the difference in their sizes. She came in at only 38g. She grew 8g in two weeks. Must be something in the water, seriously. Her facial wen is starting to come in more so she no longer is just a giant brain. And an extra dorky picture where my fish look like little dufuses.
  17. Hi all ! ....I know this is long overdue (as I have been very scarce in the kokos vortex for the last few months) It's been pretty crazy this past summer, with the birth of the mocha fry, me getting a new job, and now school starting Anywho, I just thought I'd drop some morsels of my finned children here.... Above are the 5 remaining Mocha fry, they are still living happily out in the 75 gallon outdoor tub-pond A picture of Mochi and Misha from a month or so ago Mochi-man Miss Misha ....Sadly these are some of the last photos I have of Misha She passed away a few days ago, she had been struggling with swim bladder issues ever since her initial spawning with Mochi and never quite recovered It really broke my heart to see her go, especially since losing Monet this past spring.... I feel blessed that she left me with such beautiful fry though Rest easy my little Misha-nugget
  18. I've just watched them tear a leaf out of the veggie clip and chase round the tank after it Unfortunately I missed that bit, but here's a vid of them still trying to tackle it. Apologies for the poor video quality and the bare tank, my slate creation is still a work in progress!
  19. Hello Koko's! I was wondering about my Oranda, Jelly Bean. She has a nice head wen already established (stunting issue? She came to me that way) but I noticed more recently now that she's putting on weight that her cheeks are starting to get bubbly. How do you know you have a hat-oranda over a face-oranda? Does one part tend to grow quicker? I'm mostly curious - I accepted the fact she was a hat-wearer when I bought her but would love her any way she comes. She's already shed all of her black on me. "I don't want a fat face!"
  20. So last Saturday I got 2 new goldfish from Pets@Home and they have been in a small 15 or so litre quarantine tank ever since and I can't let you guys not have pics so here they are (I wasn't gonna get them but those 2 picked me ) Red and white oranda: My favourite pic:
  21. So I went to check out a local fish breeder with the intention of scooping out a new potential addition to my 55 gal. I was thinking of getting a smaller guy since I feel that the younger you get a fish the better but I ended up getting a big guy! A red/white butterfly tail ryukin. I just couldn't say no to this fish so I had to get him. I am a bit concerned that he's so large (I'm intimated by his bulk!) but I'm hoping he'll be ok. He seems healthy enough, not a scale out of place. He was trying to eat my dad's shirt through the plastic bag on his way home so we know he's got a good appetite! He's currently in my 18 gal QT with an airstone. I added prime, baking soda (I've got pH issues) and .1% salt. I'm thinking of fasting him a few days then starting him on peas on the 3rd day. I'm debating start the prazirpro on his 3rd day too, don't want to stress him out too much. On our way home we decided to stop by PetSmart and I ended up falling for this tiny oranda. We justified it since we've got a 20 gallon sitting all empty like and since we needed a place to store our router cables and the tank stand just happened to do a good job of it. He was also extremely lively and cute... we just couldn't resist! Here's hoping their QT goes smoothly! (Not that the little oranda will be going into the 55, just the ryukin!)
  22. when she is sleeping or resting she leans head down. I thought it may have been coz her head was heavy having a wen and all but no one else's does it that I've asked.
  23. ....i just looked at the conversation me and eric were having earlier via text and started cracking up. of course i screenshotted it to share with all of you ! i was texting him intermittantly during my zoology lecture at university, fretting about mochi and his QT progress ***edit and he's a picture of mochi so no one gets mad about the lack of goldfish picture-ey-ness lol
  24. Hello hello hello ! Sorry to spam the board with photos of my little Mochinator but he's just too cute not to share !! Looks like he's been working on that wen of his after a month and a half out in the pond I brought him inside as I can never see him- he's so dark that he blends perfectly into the black bottom of the outdoor tub I know it's kindof selfish, but i miss seeing his adorable little face Also, having the 5 fry in the 75 gallon tub is already pusing the limits so Mochi and Misha are now indoors for the time being lol and another of the handsome man before I go; I love the bright yellow around his face Oh!! And here is a before shot of the mocha babies: hopefully some time in the pond (and lots of bloodworms!) will send them through a growth spurt
  25. This is my new baby that I got yesterday from goldfishnet.com.
