How many Goldfish

  1. I am enjoying my tripod these days Here's Edie enjoying a piece of lettuce today in double time <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/h2TmbfPoHZA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  2. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3qtgJO3d44&feature=youtu.be
  3. Hullo from NZ! Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I have a problem in the form of my favourite Oranda becoming lethargic and losing her gold colour. I would appreciate any help on the matter. Test Results on 25th Dec: Ammonia Level - 0 Nitrite Level - 0 Nitrate level - 10-20 Tank pH Level - 7 Other: Test-kit - API freshwater master test kit - liquid Water temperature - 24C / 75.2F (this is room temp for us at the moment) Tank size - 160L / 42gal Run time - 7 months with fish, 8 without. Filters - Eheim internal 2010 = 220-500 l/h + Eheim internal 2012 = 220-570 l/h Water change - 25% once a week Last water change - 24th 25%, 25th 50%, 27th 10% Fish - 3 10cm (not including tail) oranda, all female and one year old, 8ish adult red ramshorn snails Additives/conditioner - Seachem Flourish in the correct dose once a week after water change. Food - Mix of Hikari oranda gold, wheat germ, saki growth, kanshou spirulina twice a day. Extra feeding of either peas, frozen/frezedried bloodworms, gel food, freeze dried baby shrimp 3 times a week. New fish - No. Medications - No Entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank - Never had any problems till now. I cycled the tank for a month and a half when I first set it up with live plants but no fish. The fish have been healthy and thriving up until now. Unusual findings on the fish - Loss of colour in one fish. Used to be a brilliant gold, now is turning white. The change began with the wen and I attributed it to rapid growth and then her body started fading too. This is the first year I've had them so I'm new to the Oranda growth process. Unusual behavior - Same oranda is lethargic and often gets caught in plants and seems unable to escape, very lethargic, sits at the bottom of the tank and only moves for food. Often does headstands while foraging after feeding. She doesn't sit on the gravel with her body, more like she rests on her fins. As far as I'm aware, nothing has changed. I reorganised the tank and added a large piece of clean planted driftwood about 2 months before she got sick, they didn't seem to have any problems with it then. I removed it yesterday just in case but no improvement. I've added an extra air pump to no effect. After I found the nitrate was at 10-20 I did a 50% change and after that she seemed a bit better, but the next morning she was hiding in the corner again. It is Summer here in NZ so the fish are growing a lot and room temparature is up. I should also mention that our water is pure with no additives at all. Also the other 2 fish in the tank seem to be fine. They haven't lost colour or energy at all. Thanks for looking! Please let me know if you need more info.
  4. I've been wanting to start keeping fancy goldfish for a while now and I've been a lurker on this site for a bit. That said, I've been trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to do and I thought maybe I could get some insight from some of the experts here. I'm really interested in setting it up right the first time, as I really don't like the thought of tormenting some poor fish by making silly choices. Here's what I've been thinking about: Tank: 36 gallon (I'm leaning towards a bare bottom tank) Fish: 1 Black Moor and 1 Oranda Decorations: a few plastic plants and probably some smooth river rocks I'm not sure about filtration though. I like the idea of using two filters in order to accomplish the job, but I'm stil confused about which models or types are good for a novice like myself. Also not sure about what type of bubbler to use. Am I missing anything else? What do you guys think? Thank you for your time and thanks to everyone who contributes to this site. So much great info and awesome fishies!!
  5. went to suppliers today i decided to take more video from one section of his small shop. he fills it well remember, this is the fish i wanted, and came home with i have decided to call her Anastasia enjoy
  6. Got two Ryukin, and a baby Butterfly out of QT just today. This is Loops. He's just tiny, maybe 2 inches. In the 2nd pic there is one of the red and white Ryukins, Scribbles. W/ more of him below. The other Ryukin, Bozie in the bottom right corner. He wasn't cooperating for pics. Bourkie And The Doctor way in the background. He's getting tubby. I'll try to get a better pick of Bozie. Scribbles definitely has a more pronounced hump. Both are about the same size, guessing around 4 inches.
  7. i visited my supplier today. he has received some new fish.. unfortunately no telescopes.. which is what i had in mind to come home with.. but, i secured a ryukin that will be released from QT next week.. it's at 1:23 mainly orange on the head (calico) with black striped tail.,. huge
  8. I upgraded my lighting to a dual T5 HO fixture and wow, what a difference. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've even seen my fish! I definitely like the TMS much more now. So, here are some pics of the goldies and tank with the new lighting
  9. I've been trying to get some acceptable pics for my crew, and they finally cooperated. This is the group in the 100g. I'll update the 55g in a couple of days. Without further ado, here they are, in alphabetical order XD Byakuya After a very very rough beginning, Byakuya has recovered well from her dropsy after shipping. I hope she will stay healthy for years to come. Gin Gin came from Petsmart, and was discovered to have a very mushy belly when I took her out of the bag. She too has fought the infection, and here she is Hanataro Hanataro is the surprise baby from DO. He's such a spunky little guy. He definitely livens up the tank Ichigo Ichigo's my first from Petsmart. Also another bundle of energy, she's demonstrated a nice growth. Jyushiro My calico oranda baby!!! Kisuke Blue oranda from Petsmart. He has the best facial expressions. Nelliel She's the panda I've always wanted to complete my tank. Nelliel does not disappoint. The shipping from DO this time was as smooth as can be. Nelliel & Hanataro didn't even stress. Renji I had to bring him home when I saw him. Toshiro Queen of the tank! Group Shots We Be Butterflies I <3 U Thank you so much for looking. I realize there were a lot of pics (Notice Toshiro in every single group shot. She's well loved lol)
