  1. An update of my aqua-pups, and also Monet's official Kokos debut ! (I received Monet in the mail from Ken just over a week ago, and he was recently added to Misha and Mochi's aqua-palace until all three of them are moved out to the pond ) Monet ! He's such a goofball, he and Mochi have been up to mischief together since the moment they met synchronized faces really hard to get everyone all in one shot the spoiled fishies awaiting their water-change Mochi and Misha Misha and Monet and one last shot of the handsome newbie !
  2. My oranda, Jack, has changed significantly in coloring (and size!). Check it out: Before October 2013 After May 2014
  3. Hey guys, I have woken up to an issue with my Calico Oranda. His wen seems to have "deflated" a bit in one spot and has gone from bright orange to a much lighter shade of whitish orange in the spot. it is also quite wobbly in the area of colour/form change. I was due a water change tonight, so I have rescheduled it and just done it now ( I did a 50% change using prime) I haven't used any medications as yet for this (although about 3 days ago the tank had a dose of melafix and pimafix). I'm considering putting the heater on and adding salt to the tank. all the water parameters have been spot on in the past. ( I didn't do a test prior to wc - bad I know, but I already knew it was due today so I just did it) Nitrates, nitrites 0ppm, and ammonia all 0 - 0.25ppm. this tank has been running for approx. 8-10 months and was started with already cycled filter media. oxygen saturation usually sits around 12mg/L and ph is usually 7.6 current water temp is 23c. My list of Available medications on hand to me are as follows. - Prazi pro - Melafix - Pimafix - Metronidazole - Tri sulfa - Seachem AquaZole - Bacta - Blue Planet Fluke & Tapeworm tablets - Myxazin -Aquari- cycline - Salt (none of the above medications have been used thusfar for this problem they are just whats avail. - I like to be ready for an emergency) he has also taken to bottom sitting a bit, but does get up n swim around energetically when its feeding time or if I approach the tank. Any assistance would be great.
  4. While I'm biding my time until SwimFish gets a tankmate, I'm trying to research out really well what type we want. We're really drawn to the looks of Orandas and Black Moors, and I love seeing pics of gorgeous Butterfly and Veiltails... But I don't want to take on more than I'm capable of caring for properly either. Wen infection, injured eyes, floatiness, torn tails... Our current fish is a Fantail. Is there a list from least to most fancy of the fancies? I'd love to hear your observations on the different types, things to consider, etc!!
  5. Hey guys (: Was feeding Mochi this morning, and just thought I'd share his profoundly rotund cuteness with you ....He really is such a sweetie, small but sweet He was a bit shy at first.... (please disregard all of the poo, tomorrow is water-change day ) But soon he gathered his courage to come investigate ....He promptly began part one of his choreographed "FEED ME NOW PLEASE" dance, making it nearly impossible to photograph him ...Thus ends our photoshoot, for all remaining photos of mochi are white blurs

I saw him looking a little odd, took a closer look and noticed his eyes were weird looking. Shortly after, I noticed him pooping but it wasn't a normal poop. He sprayed it out almost, there were bits of it all over the place. He also has jerky movements at time. He was fine three hours ago at feeding time. Sigh. It feels pretty bad having all these problems come up one after the other after such a long time period of no problems at all First Naruto's wen, and now that he's better, Arnie is sick. Normal: Now:
  7. Hey guys, so this morning when I went to do Mochi's waterchange I noticed that he has a raised scale on his left side He is otherwise acting normal, being his chipper and adorable self and begging for food I proceded with my 80% waterchange and put him in a bowl temporarily, to snap some pics for you guys... I'm really scared/worried.... I love this little guy and would be devastated if anything happened to him here are the best pics i could get....he's such a wiggler !! .....and apparently photobucket is down will post them when it comes back up. i'm freaking out ....... * Ammonia Level(0ppm) * Nitrite Level(0ppm) * Nitrate level(2ppm) * Ammonia Level(Tap0ppm) * Nitrite Level(Tap0ppm) * Nitrate level(Tap0ppm) * Ph Level, Tank (7) * Ph Level, Tap (7) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? 8. Hey guys So as some of you know, I am coming to the end of Mochi the oranda's quarantine period... He has done extremely well and today we've completed his 2nd round of prazi! (I am hoping to do rounds 3 and 4 of prazi in his 20 gallon long)... I was wondering if you all had any tips/steps for transferring a fish from one tank to another? If I have both water temperatures at the same temperature, can I just move him straight out and in? Thanks in advance for the tips !
  9. Hi all Just wanted to give an update on day two of Mochi's quarantine ! I was able to go out today and buy him a heater, so it is slowly bringing up the temperature of his rubbermaid to an acceptable level lol And with the slowly warming water, he seems to be much more active- which is awesome I also started him on his salt regiment.... we are currently at .01% kosher salt concentration Hoping to eventually bring that up to .03% after two more 12 hour intervals..... I also overnighted prazipro so he should be started on that tomorrow ! .....not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but it is titled 'quarantine'....so it seemed apropriate? eeeeeep I am a bit of a nervous fish mom- although i did finally see the little fishkin eat some hikari pellets so that's good ( i've been leaving them in the tank for only 10 min periods and today he finally ate them lol )......
  10. Hey all So recently, I've been toying around with the idea of a planted tank... Mind you, I've never kept any aquatic plants before- so the entire concept is a bit new to me I was thinking of starting with some lucky bamboo in my filter box? And then eventually some anubias or moss balls ! But my question is, where do you guys get your plants? I always see tons at my lfs, petco, and petsmart.... However, the ones at petsmart always seem inundated with snails What are your top picks for plant vendors? Thanks !
  11. I saw an oranda tonight at petsmart that was absolutely adorable. He/she has an orange and white body, the wen is orange, the face and cheeks are white, there is an orange stripe between his eyes, and a small amount of orange color on the mouth. He/she was small (the $7-$8 size). My question is-due to his/her size, I am thinking the age is young, will the color/markings change as the fish gets older? As soon as I saw the fish I fell for him/her, partly in due to the color (adorable face and the markings just enhance the cuteness) as well as the chubby cheeks and wiggly swim. I feed soilent green, super green, NLS 1mm, and bloodworms. I am probably going to get the fish irrelevant of the possible color change but I am curious if the color will change in the future. Thank you for any input : )
  12. I have read multiple conflicting answers to this question: do or orandas and lion heads make good tank mates? They're some of my favorite species and I already have them in the same tank (both juvenile) and was wondering if they would have problems living together later on.
  13. My profuse apologies for the recent slew of photo-spamming, but the MagiKarp was just being too adorable. :rofl Othello is unimpressed, though
  14. Hello Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I upgraded my camera, and I have still trying to get the hang of it. The new cam is amazing and has a lot to offer, but it's going to take a while to learn to use it properly. I had a test photoshoot earlier, and thought I would update you on some of my fish. They are all doing very well, and growing nicely. Other than feeding them, doing water changes, and cleaning their tanks, I'm not really doing much, which is exactly how I prefer it. I am still working on getting the right settings. These are off, but I am getting closer. Thank you for looking. The Ryukins (Boss Lisa and Yafa Boss Tammy!). They are clearly the bosses in the tanks! Alyssa the Fantail MagiKarp the Orandashishigashira Random Pics
  15. Hey guys! So here are some pics of my babies and their home Midnight- Black Moor Bruiser- Calico Telescope (I think...boo blurry) Puff- Blue Oranda Hope you like em
  16. Lately, I've noticed that my 2 largest oranda have been acting pretty aggressive towards each other and their 2 tank mates when feeding. After they finish snacking on the pellets that they've snatched while they were sinking, they start to patrol the area where the pellets lay. They then begin to start pushing any other fish that come into the vicinity of the pellets. When it's just them, they starting fighting over the spot. Is this normal? I've tried to move around where I let the pellets sink but I've observed the same behavior no matter where the pellets fall.
  17. My friend left for college this year and he gave me his adorable oranda goldfish, Dimple! So far he is getting along with my other fish swimmingly He seems very happy and active and his wen is growing
  18. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank) .10ppm (was at 2.0 ppm three days ago) * Nitrate level(Tank) 0ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) .15ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) 0ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.6 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.4 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API Freshwater test kit (Drops) * Water temperature? 71.8 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 55g / running for a month now * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? AquaClear 70 HOB * How often do you change the water and how much? 20-40% once a week * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Yesterday, 50% (there was a Nitrite spike) * How many fish in the tank and their size? two goldfish; 13g pearlscale and 13g oranda * What kind of water additives or conditioners? SeaChem Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Hikari Fancy Goldfish pellets, 2-3x a day * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? Only a .01% salt treatment to possibly help with detoxing Nitrites. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Two weeks ago, 0.03% salt treatment, for Ick. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Red spot on body. Was not there a week ago. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? He has been hanging out in the bamboo plant about two inches from the surface. Not gulping air or anything, just staying near the top. From what my internet sluthing has come up with, it may be Nitrite Poisoning? There was a large spike in my Nitrites just 4-5 days ago (Nitrogen Cycle) and I didn't catch it to do a WC. I'm uncertain how long they were subject to the spike. Video of Krang and Petrie (Red Spot visible)
  19. As some of you know, I brought The MagiKarp home last week from Petco, and so far she has been doing excellently in QT, going through her rounds of 0.3% salt and Prazipro. I am still learning how to use my camera, and decided to try for some closeups. Here she is in her QT. "Mirror, mirror, on the wall..." Enjoying a messy meal of Pro-Gold. She does not like NLS or Hikari Lionhead, but approves of mysis shrimp and bloodworms. LOL The Close-Ups (at varying ranges) Thank you for looking.
  20. Welp, today I took home my missing pieces to my tank: two new fish! ;D I've now got one Oranda, one Pearlscale, and one Ryukin. They're called Krang, Petrie, and Björn Stevenson. I can't wait to watch them grow! All three are only an inch or so (and only 6-9g! Itty bitties!)
  21. All this talk of orandas lately has made me realize how much I miss not having a single oranda in my tanks, even though these fish are my favorites. Funny enough, yesterday I went to Petco to redeem a coupon (plant), I saw some nice orandas in the koi tank. This is quite unusual for our Petco, as they tend to only bring in smaller fish. These guys are a great size, and equal to what would have been $35 at Petsmart. They were only $18! I quickly spotted one that just looked so awesome. I didn't get him though, telling myself that I didn't want to set up a new QT, etc etc. I was ready not to do anything, except I was talking to Pearlscaleperfect, who was NOT helping the situation. So, long story short, this beautiful oranda is in QT, with 0.3% salt and PraziPro. We've already had one mishap where a brand new QT leaked, but everything seems to be going fine now. Please wish us luck, and an uneventful QT. He does not have a name yet. I am leaning towards Anomander. These were some of the fish's reactions upon learning that I brough home a new fish. Thank you for looking!
  22. Hi guys! Thanks to Lisa, Mike and Alex, I was able to cycle my tank and get a new fish. Meet Vanilla =]
  23. So last week I decided to take the kids to the LFS just to look around and find a veggie clip for the comets and they had just received a fresh shipment of baby orandas. I texted my DH a pic and he was like "run away!" After he came home from work he said well what are you waiting for, let's go rescue your fish. This little guy/girl (no idea) is about an inch long and we are calling him/her Jacques because one of my kids said he looks like he's wearing a tiny red cap/beret. First week of QT has been smooth sailing.
  24. recent video of my 75 gal
  25. Video of my pond this afternoon. It's 95degrees water is at 85degrees. Fish are happy so am I lol. It amazes me how they can handle a wide range in temperature outside and how much they grow outside. I'm already planning on building a bigger pond next year for them possibly adding a koi or two in there as well. I'm guessing it will roughly be around 3,000-5,000gallons. Wife doesn't like the idea , but oh well lol
