  1. Here recently my goldfish past away So, I took a break from keeping goldfish, but I just now wanted to get back into keeping them so I went online to my favorite place to order good quality goldfish (River Garden Nursery). I ended up ordering a ryukin from them and will be shipped to me Monday morning and I have had this 20 gallon long aquarium set up with a sun set 600 filter and was wondering if that would be suitable for a quarantine tank for a few months so I can collect money to buy a bigger one? Please help me out I want to do right with this new little guy I'm getting.. (By the way the goldfish is pretty young and is only 4 inches from head the the start of the tail.)
  2. HI everybody, Today i need your help again. Hope you guys will definitely find a solution. Few days before i recognized that i have 2 female and 2 male goldfishes in my tank when i saw chasing behavior so i tried hand spawning with a single couple , everything was so perfect but i made a mistake that i tried to pour the eggs to 5 gallon tank since the eggs were in bucket and i lost all the eggs. Now, yesterday again i saw a chasing behavior so i planned to retry. But the problem is, among two male non of them have milt inside so what to do? Please help me i dont want to wait untill next season ,Because i know and i am sure one of a female have more than 1000 eggs with her cause she is big in size with round belly chasen by both male but since she is so big and males are smaller then her they are not being able till yet only two eggs i have seen but infertlie. I have not taken any eggs from her before myself. Questions: how many days may take to form milt inside male again? How to boost male to form milt again? Is this not possible this time?
  3. I wanted to get an upgrade in tank size for my fish and decide to go with a stock tank http://www.tscstores.com/2-X-2-X-6-150-GALLON-POLY-STOCK-TANK-P3658.aspx I just have some question? Do you think I could just paint the OUTSIDE of stock tank black? I may have to go with canister filters because I'm sure my AC110 are not going to hang ON THE BACK. So how many GPH should I look for in a canister filter or 2?

I have performed a 90% in the tank Darcy and the shubunkin were in yesterday but I woke up and found them both dead and I am about to perform a 90% on my other tank but what should I do the ragged fins are pretty bad and a couple of the goldfish had maybe one or two rips in their tails and I thought it was just from when I weighed them but all the goldfish's tails are ragged and diminishing everyday ;( I have also lost another goldfish called Gizmo and my blue oranda is floating head down I will get the photos of them later as I can't find the camera at the minute
  6. Just not my self today lost my goldfish dory. She was a jolly goldfish always happy to see me. Before she past away,I held her in my hand. My finger was by her lip and she kiss it. She know it was me. I miss her so much. I got her at the fair on September 3,2008 and she die May 31,2015.
  7. So as some of you know I got a telescope goldfish a couple of weeks back and he/she is fine so far except i noticed a twisted peduncle so he/she rests in a plant pot sometimes when water flow is fast and comes out to eat and swim around as well but just now something has happened... I have just come home from school and I turned on the filters (we turn them off when we aren't here as water is always surrounding the media) and looked away and turned back and saw the telescope goldfish stuck against the filter but quickly turned the filter off and then I saw my blue oranda with a red, sore swelled up eye what do I do?? I can't remove them as I have no space and my prime and kusuri isn't here yet! Please help also here is the thread for details about the telescope and the tank they are in : http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/121133-telescope-goldfish-eye-problem/ Also forgot to mention the telescope is floaty at the minute
  8. So I got a new goldfish today that is missing one of its gill plates and one of its eyes is missing but there still seems to be some eye left that moves unlike my other 1 eyed telescope goldfish that has no excess of her eye left. Will this part of the eye fall out or will the fish require surgery or something else??
  9. I'm a big stump on what is happening to my poor fishy. I have a black fancy goldfish who currently has dropsy. She still eats and I've been feeding her pees while her medicated food comes via mail. She's had dropsy for but now. But so far she's really fighting to stay alive so I'm detrmend to get her feeling better. I've been doing Epsom salt baths which looks like really helps her because she starts swimming around once she's back in the quarantine tank. Problem I'm having is I keep change her water because it gets dirty like the next day a rally of things are inside the tank attached to the walls of aquarium. It looks like she's able to digest the pees because green poop comes out but like I said I'm stumped with the additional items unidentifiable in the tank. At fist I thought the filter was the problem so I removed it. But still happened. Need help ; ~ ; I use aquarium water from main tank whic has below water levels. PH - 7.0 Ammonia - .25ppm Nitrite- 0ppm nitrate .50 ppm Tempature at 80F Using melafix pimafix Any suggestion is really appreciated.
  10. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has tried a Siamese Flying Fox and Goldfish combination? I have heard the Siamese Flying Fox are really very good for algae consumption, and generally peaceful fish. They grow to about 12cm, so would not be a snack for larger fish. They are tropical fish, but would suit the higher temp range goldfish are suited for, I think (but not 100%). They also appear to suit the same ph range as the goldfish. This is where I got my info from: http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/fish/siamese-flying-fox.html Is this a really bad idea? or does anyone have any experience with these fish or this combination of fish? Thanks so much!
  11. So I am thinking of getting canister filters for my fish tanks as then I would only need one filter and it would allow for more media (which will help in my overstocked tanks) and use less electricity as then I only have to run one filter making my dad happy . I have one problem I don't know which ilter to buy, well I know what filter I want but I don't know what flow rate I should get as this is the filter type I want to get http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002NF5LDQ/ref=dra_a_rv_mr_hn_it_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay0bb-21&ascsubtag=389b921dff5d70f831c05c04f70f3e9f_S . I have been trying to choose between the three size ranges of the filters but I don't know which ones to get for a 32 gallon aquarium and a 33 gallon aquarium. Also I want to eventually upgrade (my dad will say no but I will ) so I want the filters to be good to use on a new tank which I want to be in the 300-500 litre range for my 5 telescope goldfish but it just depends on what I can find second hand (but my dad will make me buy them brand new ) Which filter would you buy out of those three??
  12. Hi everyone, This is not an urgent Topic. I was just sitting musing about goldfish swimming. Well let me explain that... I fed my two Goldfish homemade gel food for the first time tonight. While one hoed in, the other was somewhat timid. She approached with caution, took a gingerly nibble. "Its ok" she thought, so she took a bigger bite. This didn't work so well. While taking a bite, she shook the gel food and smacked herself in the eye with it! Then very promptly swam away to hide behind some plants and stake it out from a distance, just in case it moved again! Well, I was trying to describe this to my mother in law in an email tonight, and I was stumped. How does one describe a goldfish swimming fast, well bolting? Or for that matter taking a leisurely swim? Horses have varied modes of movement, they walk, trot, canter, gallop. Humans dawdle, amble, walk, jog, sprint.... So how about fish? Is there any technical terms for the different ways fish swim? Then another thought struck me. If I was having trouble with my fish, and I wanted to describe it to someone, say on the wonderful Koko's forum, how would I go about it? Just a thought. I don't know if there is a technical answer or not, but if not I would love to hear some words I could use to describe the 'speed' or 'mode' of their movements. How do you describe the way your fish moves? Even if they are made up words I would love to hear them. Only if they are made up, please tell me they are made up, or ill be describing to you in the near future my fish is 'finflapping' around the tank, and no-one will know what I mean!
  13. So me and my mum saw a heron a few weeks ago on a neighbours roof but it hadn't gone to the pond as far as we could tell but since we have been draining the pond and refilling it we have definitely lost fish. The fish we have lost are twp orandas, 2 of our breeding commons, our friends sarasa comet and maybe some baby goldfish as well. How do we get rid of the heron as frogs just get caught in netting that we tried putting over that didn't fit and apparently the decoy herons don't work what should we do??
  14. hey everyone so as some of you know we have had a heron taking our fish from our pond which led me to bring in the last two fancies yesterday and hope for the best for the other goldfish. After I moved the two fancy goldfish inside 1 visibly a male oranda and one visibly a female fantail I did about a 90% water change and fed them some gel food. Well early this morning when I was meant to be in bed but I was on my computer on kokos I turned round and looked at my goldfish tank in my room and saw the calico female fantail from the pond getting chased by one of my smaller goldfish from inside who is a red and white oranda and occasionally the oranda from the pond joined in but he was getting brutally harassed by one of my other female goldfish . I then go to bed and hope for the best (that they lay eggs) I wake up and turn on the filters and open my curtains and there are eggs all over the terracotta pots and in the sand. I used a mini pipette and manage to save over 40 eggs and put them in a container away from the fancy goldfish. I am no means an expert at raising fry but over the past two years the pond goldfish have spawned and I have hatched the eggs and cared for the fry but I don't say I bred them which is why there was never any threads about any goldfish that have bred whilst I have cared for them . Sorry for bad pics guys Anyway here are some pics of the eggs The mum The likely father
  15. Hi, I am new to all the alternatives in fish foods. So I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer for me... Gelfoods; which are the best? Agar; can I substitute ordinary gelatine for agar? Veggies; which are best? and how to prepare? (my fish are about 2inches long) Thanks so much! I am looking forward to your input! OH, forgot: Nori... can I just feed them the Nori sheets for sushi making?
  16. Hi everyone! I have been a member of this forum for some time now, but I have never posted any photos of my little guy. I just upgraded his tank and the lighting is so beautiful I wanted to share some photos. I got him 5 years ago this month. He was purchased in Boone, NC when I was an undergrad in college. He then moved with me to Charlotte, NC..Chicago, IL..and now Los Angeles, CA! He has been such a joy in my life as I finished my undergraduate and graduate studies. Cliche, sure..but meet Goldie AKA Mr. Fishy! Brittany Thanks for viewing!
  17. Hi, everyone! Some of you may know me from years back. I've relied on Koko's for good advice since my very first fish, Gilbert Keith Chesterton Goldfish. I learned a lot over the years, and I'm certainly not going to reinvent the wheel! But you can always learn more. I really think my new little rescue, Faramir Fish, is alive today because of you guys. So- Here's what I JUST learned. 1. Of course, you need to have at least a ten gallon tank for one small goldfish. Of course, you need a filter. Of course, you need to change the water every week. But I learned that, if you have a heavily planted tank or a plant filter (plant filters are great!) you can't rely on the nitrate level to guide your water changes. The nitrates in my tank are always near zero, because of the groponix filter. BUT I still needed to change more water! I noticed this way back when I was moving little Gilbert into his bigger tanks. He would perk right up after a big water change. So, from now on, I'm aiming for 50 percent a week, even if the parameters seem perfect. Even more would be even better. 2. Your goldfish almost certainly has flukes. Especially if it's a rescue from the feeder tank. Be proactive and minimize those guys! Hikarki prazipro (what I'm using) is a gentle med that can help your fish a lot and won't kill the filter. 3. You CAN salt your tank, even if it's planted. It's a good idea to treat all new fish for parasites. Believe it or not, I hadn't done this with my earlier fish; I would watch and wait and treat after symptoms showed up. But, when symptoms show, your fish is getting attacked by nasties! You can and should take care of the major ones he or she is likely to have before you see any symptoms. One thing I learned is that the therapeutic dose is bigger than I'd imagined. I had, in the past, used the guidelines on the aquarium salt boxes. That's not enough to kill ich and other parasites. You really do have to get the concentration up to 0.3 percent to do any good. 4. Give your fish good food, and presoak it I began by feeding flakes, and they were leading to constipation and other problems. New Life and Omega one foods are so much better! Eventually, I'll probably get Faramir fish to eat a pea. Then that can be a weekly treat, and I'll look out for other fresh foods for him. 5. We've all heard you shouldn't overfeed your fish. You shouldn't underfeed them, either! I'm serious! When I got Charlie Weasely goldfish from Dr. Tepper, it turned out that I was seriously underfeeding the poor little guy. I wasn't feeding Faramir right, either. Dr. Tepper told me I was starving Charlie, and that I must feed him more. Underfeeding will stress and weaken your fish. Yes, they make a mess when they're fed right! That's why you need to change so much water. So that's what I learned in the past month, (point five got reinforced this past month.) Of course, I did some things right, too! With Faramir fish, I did my first fishless cycle. I also took great care to acclimatize him to the tank. And I do think plant filters are awesome, especially for goldfish. Dr. Tepper, of the Long Island fish hospital, did a lot of research into plant filters and how they help guard the fish from disease, as well as cleaning the water. I'm happy Faramir is doing so much better now. The places on his face that looked red and swollen are now black, which I think is a sign of healing. His gills aren't swollen, he's not constipated, and he doesn't look as skinny. Thanks to everyone over on the other thread for all their help! And - one of the things that's cool about keeping goldies is that there's always more to learn! So thanks again, and happy goldfish keeping!
  18. I was wanting to know how often should I do water changes. I have a jumbo Oranda in a 20 gallon long aquarium with a 40gallon canister filter. I normally do 2-3 water changes a week throughout out the week days so on Saturday and Sunday I can just sit back and rest. I think that it is a bit much though. I usually do water changes Monday Wednesday and Friday if possible. is this too much or not enough?
  19. Okay so for a while now I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my goldfish Neo. He floats upside down but only at night I spoke to a girl who has th same problem as me and she took her fish to the vet and they didn't know what was wrong. So I experimented today with him. Here is how it went. Woke up this morning to see a healthy happy swimming right side fish 2 hours went bye and I feed him Repashy soilent green/super green mixer only 2 small pieces. Came back an hour or so later I caught him upside down on the bottom of the tank. He has been off and on like this since I have feed him the gel food this morning around 9o'clock I want to say it has something to do with the fish food?
  20. I want to make gel food and in a blog i seen on here they used Agar Agar powder I don't know what that is exactly I have heard it helps with floaty fish but Im not sure how much that is true could anyone of the goldfish comminty help me with getting more knowledge on this Agar Agar powder? Please. I really do need help I want to make my own gel food and I sorts know how but not completely.
  21. I was wanting to buy some new fish food for my goldfish Neo. But I wasn't sure on what to buy, I would like to have a new gel food other than repashy's but idk what is best. Aslo would like some cheap sinking pellet foods as well. If you know any please let me know. I order all my goldfish food of ebay and would like some cheap but good quality gel food and pellet foods for my little goldfish. I would prefer a good all around quality food like for color growth and general health. What would you recommend?
  22. So I've been a bit bored on my daily train ride and decided to try doing a goldfish picture, started with this: Ended up with this: Hope you like it!
