How many Goldfish

  1. Gizmo is a 2 year old blackmoor and she has been suffering from a bad case of popeye for almost three weeks, as well as a swim bladder issue. Both appeared around the same time. She is in a 55 gallon tank with her brothers, pearl scale and an oranda. The water has always been pristine and I spend a lot of time taking care of them. Gizmo has been in isolation for two weeks, with a round of erythromycin for five days, it did nothing. I then used Tetracycline for the last six days, and I thought it was clearing up but I just found her laying on her side and breathing heavy at the bottom. I got her in the big tank thinking she needed oxygen and she is swimming okay but her eye is huge, and she keeps returning to floating on her back at the bottom. I am so desperate for some advice. Thank you .
  2. Hi there! I am new to this website but I have had goldfish for a few years now. However I have never kept any other fish with them so my question is, what fish can I keep with them? I have two orandas and I was thinking about introducing a betta or guppy to the tank at 24-25 degrees C (with a heater) although I am unsure if they will get along.
  3. Hi everyone pebbles is very sick with a lump on her side, a 2nd bump is growing I am not happy. I started her new meds yesterday, I put some more meds in today and it made her happy and swimming better. I am worried about her. I keep everyone posted as long you pray for her I think she will make it. If she was dying she would be at the bottom of the tank, laying on the side and not eating. She eating, not laying on the side, or laying at the bottom of the tank. She strong cookie, I can heal her. I want my happy girl back.
  4. Hi everyone so I stop all 3 meds. I would like to know if I can just give her plain food back instead of giving her Anti-Parasite. Anyway here photo her she seem to getting back her old happy self. I did found of what pebbles has,she has internal tumor. So there nothing can do but this person told me Avogel1231:yeah, looks like a tumor, they dont kill things immediately and up until death the animal usually behaves perfectly healthy and sometimes the tumor wont kill but usually it does. I just keep my eye on her. I leave her in the 10 gallon for a week then put her in the big tank with everyone.
  5. Hi I am doing a salt treatment for pebbles. I think its a tumor other person think its a subcutaneous cyst. Pray for her and I keep you all posted.
  6. I just went to check on my goldfishes and everyone fine but pebbles. It look like a inner tumor just like what Flounder had. He die from it,I don't want the same thing happen to her. She so young she only 3 year old. I really don't want to lose her too. I also send Flounder photo it look the same. She is a happy fish.
  7. Hey, everyone, I hope all is well I have this Feeder goldfish that has now grown rather large, I have noticed a large white bump on its dorsal fin, and it has become rather lethargic the last couple of days , so I wanted to know if anyone could help, I've attached some pictures below https://www.flickr.com/photos/148233809@N04/shares/yiM3SW
  8. Hi everyone! I bought a cool looking little guy at Petsmart the other day. I bought a little red oranda with a dark red wen, and a cool mixture of dark red and light orange markings. I put him in quarantine before I put him in my 65 gallon with my other fancies. Looking at him I kept thinking theres something different about this guy, then I realized he's a single-tail. I've done a little reading on this; is this not a desirable trait? Seems like all the stuff I've read on fries with single-tails means they should be culled? I was just curious about this as I've never seen an oranda with just a single-tail before. And don't worry I'm not going to get rid of this little guy he's really cute, and as far as I can tell so far he doesn't swim any faster than my other fancies so I'm not worried about him fitting in with the others. Thanks!!
  9. Hello, my goldfish is 1 year old and I just did a full tank change. Now I noticed white growth from one eye and maybe a little on the other eye. What is it? what should I do? My first goldfish!!
  10. Hi everyone its been while I clean out my tank 2 days ago. Its all nice and clear now show you photos of them. Angle Pearl Clean fish tank Jabu Jabu Pebbles
  11. Hi everyone,I clean my tank last week,so in the photo is cloudy, its fine now. I got photos of my fishes. I take more photo tonight so it will be better photos of them
  12. Hello, I have been keeping 2 goldies in a 4.5 gallon aquarium for 2 years and decided to find someone who would be willing to take care of them and offer appropriate conditions. I found someone locally who has 300 litre pool with only goldies in it and would welcome my fishies. I use public transportation to move and don't know what would be the process of transporting and handling fishies. Is there something to consider when introducing fishies to new place of habitat that have to do with their adaptation? Is there a caution to consider in how other goldfish will respond to new goldfish? I heard stories where fish would eat other fish. One last thing. I use Prime dechlorinator to dechlorinate water. Today was first time that I forgot to use it when I changed 100% of water. I left goldfish in it for 1 minute until I put 2 drops of Prime into fishtank. Is there something to be concerned about? Thanks!
  13. Hello everyone, I haven't been on the forums for a while. I have been 'fish-sitting' for some friends since the summer. They won this little guy (and his friend who sadly didn't make it ) at a carnival. They didn't realize how big a tank they would need for a single tail goldfish and will not be able to keep it. Of course the carnival people handed them 2 fish in a little critter carrier and just said to feed them. Anyway, I've been keeping him for the last 3 months or so in a 20gallon but I cannot keep him forever. I would like to find him a good home, he's still small, about 1.5 inches. I took some pics but haven't been able to upload. If anybody is interested please let me know, I'm in Westchester County, NY. Thank you!!!
  14. Who is going to be watching the MF Aquatics auction on Facebook , Thursday (1st December) ? It's great that the UK is following suit and we're getting more fancies!
  15. Ok guys now i think its time to share a diary of my breeding process. Even though i believe breeding any living thing is not totally up to us because we are not creator but we could try, lets get optimistic and start crossing our fingers. these are parents of my upcoming goldies. Father "Tattey"calico and mother "Aandey" egg shaped ranchu Step father "Paatali" common veiltail
  16. No I am not asking historically which species of fish man first pulled from its natural habitat and put into containers of water/man made ponds. I'm asking which you as a both betta and gold fish owner bought first. Did you start on bettas then get into goldfish? Or the other way around? Which do you have more of (fish count and tanks)? For me it was bettas first then goldfish. I have a lot of planted betta tanks -9 actually, 1 is my husband's betta. I have to stay out of petstores to resist buying more bettas (so many lovelies!) and turning my stored/qt tanks into active planted betta tanks. I enjoy the 2 goldfish I have and they enjoy their 1 40g breeder tank (really love hand feeding and handling them-can do the same with some of my bettas but have to be so much more delicate with the smaller fish), but I don't see myself getting more goldfish/goldfish tanks... unless I can get my hands on a 6 foot long tank for a good price... but around here those cost a bloody arm 'n a leg.
  17. Pearl is doing well I had for 1 week now. Tell me what you guys think of her. I am going to wait until she a little bigger. Once she angel size I put her with the other goldfish.
  18. Hi everyone went to petsmart around 4sh. she pretty no name. I clean out the tank really good before putting the new fish in. Can you all help me pick out a name for her. You guys give me a list of names I will post it in a poll.

  20. 2 weeks ago I got 2 new goldfish name Jabu Jabu and Angle. Before putting them in the main tank,I put them in a hospital tank for 2 weeks to make sure they are not sick. They are doing great in the big tank with Pebbles. Pebbles is a huge goldfish. Jabu Jabu Angle Pebbles
  21. I got my first pair of goldfish yesterday and am trying to get them use to feeding.. where they came from fed floating pellets which I've been told is bad as they can suck in air and get swim bladder (sb) issues. So I bought sinking Hikari Goldfish pellets as that's what was available (if there are better pellet brands you'd like to recommend please do so). Now I'm just having trouble getting them use to me in front of tank+ removing hood=food.. I don't want to foul the water leaving pellets in to land and since I used Black Diamond 'sand' substrate the food tends to blend in a bit. One of them-a blue-black oranda I think is the color term- keeps going into the anubias when I open the lid so having a hard time getting them to see pellets, the other a calico fantail has no problem staying out in the open but only wants to eat pellets as they sink not after they hit the substrate. I soaked the pellets in water for 2+ minutes with a bit of DIY garlic exact before each feeding attempt. I'm curious if anyone has used feeding dishes to put pellets or other foods in at the bottom without having a mess all over the substrate? I might just be over thinking it as a new goldfish owner (not new to fish-have tropicals, other cold water (white cloud minnows), dwarf shrimp, and bettas), since they're the first fish that could eat plants that I've kept with plants.. don't want them making a salad bar out of the anubias because they haven't figured out sinking pellets yet...I put in a cucumber with them, seen a few pecks at it but not much. Anyways any helpful tips would be appreciated!
  22. I was wondering what matters most when stocking, size or number of fish. In general I know the stocking parameters follow 15-20 gallons per fish. I have 4 Goldie's (2 telescopes @ 3 inches each, 1 oranda @ 4 inches and 1 oranda @ 2.5 inches-all measurements are without tail length). The 2 teles & small oranda have been in a 40 breeder since November, no problems. The small oranda is 1 year of age, I've had 1 tele x 1 year and has grown maybe 1/4 inch- same as the other tele but I've had him x 2 years, I've had the other oranda 2 years and I'm pretty sure he was mature when I got him-he hasn't changed much at all. I actually don't know if they are boys or girls. My ideal goal is a 75 gallon, right now I have a spare 55. Any thoughts are appreciated.
  23. Oh, they're so, SOOO cute. I loveeee Ryukins and so hope to own a nice big one like one of these someday. These seem to all move well and look super healthy. The little music they had was nice, too. I love all goldfish - but Ryukins are my favorites.
