  1. It does seems like a lot of salt. I was like whoa! when I salted my tank. Since you're not sure it is popeye... can you tell if the eye is bulging? Dissolve the salt in some of the tank water before adding. Salting info:
  2. Sorry to hear about your fish. Do you have any aquarium salt on hand? Since it may be a while before you're able to get your hands on some medication, adding salt may help a bit in the meantime. My fish got pop eye and I was recommended to salt to 0.2% (1 tsp. of salt per gallon), raise the temperature, keep an eye on water params, and feed a medicated food. My fish's eye unfortunately never got better (there were other problems as well... but he's still alive...) and today I just read how pop eye isn't usually curable (some Animal Planet book about goldfish at the pet store)... Keeping my fingers crossed for Gilbert's recovery! Be sure to keep up those water changes! Some help I got when my fish got pop eye:
  3. Congrats on the fry! I remember one of my friends' fish had some babies before but their parents ate them all up LoL
  4. That's one gorgeous betta you got there! I love his colors!
  5. Thanks for the reply, Pixiefish! Yeah, I've felt horrible about exposing my fish to all those meds, thinking that soon they'll build up an immunity to everything. I recently did a thorough taking the filter apart and scrubbing all the yuck off and rinsing the media in tank water. I've made sure to do this regularly (once a week, since Trinket recommended this to keep bacteria levels down back then) but inbetween water changes. Also doing the regular gravel vacs and rinsing of tank ornaments. If there were parasites, Where in the world did they come from? It's been ages since I've last had live plants and I had dunked them in a light bleach solution and thoroughly rinsed them before putting them in the tank. Or do they lay dormant until the fish's immunity is weakened somehow? I'm really hoping to get a larger tank this summer! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  6. I've been dealing with my comet's cloudy/bulging eye for a while now (there are previous posts about this). It's been weeks! I've tried practically everything on the market (the last being the Medigold, which helped cure the blood spots and the fin rot) but his eye is still cloudy/bulging. Urgh. Might anyone of you have any further ideas what I can possibly do? Will the fluid retention ever go away? All I can say is that at least it hasn't gotten worse... but it certainly hasn't gotten any better. I'm going crazzzzzy I guess I should answer these again... Ammonia Level? 0 Nitrite Level? 0 Nitrate level? 10 Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)? 7.4 Ph Level out of the Tap? 7.4 Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 30 gal, over a year What is the name and size of the filter/s? Aquaclear (don't remember the model; it is the recommended 10X the tank amount though) How often do you change the water and how much? once a week, 30% How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 comets -- 4 inch and 7 inch What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime Any medications added to the tank? no Add any new fish to the tank? no What do you feed your fish? flakes -- Wardley, Omega One; occasional peas and shrimp Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt", bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? 7 inch's eye still cloudy and bulging Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, ect..? no
  7. Where could I get a Nano Filter? I've been looking for a small filter with a minimal flow/current at the lfs for my 5 gallon betta tanks but haven't had any luck... of course that could be because i haven't looked hard enough... i should go look at the chainstores... I have some Aquaclear heaters. Excellent little heaters with an orange indicator light. The only thing I don't like is that there's no temperature listing... you'll have to slowly adjust the temp little by little, wait, adjust some more... Of course, once it's set, it shouldn't be any problem.
  8. Yes, that Medigold is some wonderful stuff! I had been growing more and more worried as the blood spots spread like crazy and one of his fins soon had a huge slit/hole in it but strangely that hole healed right back up within days of feeding the Medigold and the fin rot is over; all his fins are filling back in nicely. The only thing now is to get his cloudy eye better; it's still swollen and a little cloudy, not a whole lot of improvement on the eye. I'm keeping an eye on water params and doing regular water changes/filter rinses. I don't know what else I can do.. I would love if his eye would get better.
  9. Thanks, Lolafish! I was thinking I should take him off the meds but wasn't sure. It's been just about 30 days since I started feeding him the Medigold. I think I'll start him back on his Omega One tomorrow. He loves those flakes!
  10. I was impressed with the Medigold. The bleeding in the fins had been increasingly getting worse, but within four days of feeding the Medigold, the bloody spots were essentially gone. It's been several weeks and I'm still feeding the Medigold. Unfortunately, his eye is still cloudy and swollen. No more signs of it getting better. Any more ideas? Keep feeding the Medigold?
  11. I know what you mean. It's really hard to get a decent pic when they keep moving! LoL. It took me probably nearly a hundred shots before getting a decent pic of one of my fish before. Too many blurry shots... If there is an setting on your camera for action or something with a fast shutter speed, that may help if your fish doesn't really stay still.
  12. This morning I gave him the Medigold. He sucked a pellet up, then spit it out. Sucked up another one, spit it out. I was thinking, nooooo! Eat it eat it! Third time he kept it in his mouth. He had me worried there for a minute! I think I soaked a few too many pellets cuz he left some on the bottom of the tank and he usually doesn't leave any crumbs. I got rid of them with my baster. His fins still look bad and his eye is still swollen but I think the cloudiness may be lifting a bit. But he definitely has not been getting any worse.
  13. Also, how much should of the Medigold should I feed him?
  14. Thank you! He's been on the gelfood for two days... I feed him once a day in the morning. He will get the Medigold tomorrow morning. Should I soak it first before giving it to him or will that make the medication leach out of the food?
  15. Thanks, Grain! I sure hope it does too! I've tried so many (too many!) water-borne medications that haven't helped much and I've heard so many good things about Medigold!
