  1. I bought the majority of my babies from Wharf Aquatics in Pinxton (Derbyshire) & some came from White Post Farm in Nottinghamshire.
  2. Hi guys, thanks for the comments. The tank is about 5-7 gallons but i've only filled it about 3/4 full as i was scared that there would be too much pressure for the babies. Is this not an issue? could they go into a larger tank? I have a 30 gal that is standing empty at the moment but though that this would be far too big for such ikle fish. I'm using a turkey baster to remove the water and slowly filling it up using a jug. Time consuming but fingers crossed none of the babies have been hurt or bumped too much. I think the filter is okay, I soaked it in the filter water from the parents tank, don't know if they would have help to seed it but it seemed a good idea. I also filled 1/4 of the babies tank with water from the filter. Are the babies really a month old? they are about 1cm long and look like fully formed tiny fish. I feel really bad that I didn't find them before last week.
  3. Hi Guys. It's been ages since I've been on the forums, but I'm posting to ask for advise on how to look after Fry. I have never had fry before and was shocked to find 3 babies living in my filter at the weekend. I hadn't even seen any eggs in the tank so was very shocked to see babies. I've moved the babies to a small tank with a sponge filter, I'm doing 20% water changes every day and feeding the babies ground up flakes. Is this okay? Do I need to do anything else or change what I'm doing?

None Hi everyone, Can anyone please help me with my Demekin, Dorcas. She's had extreamly bad SBD for months and I don't know what else to do with her. I've salted her tank, kept the water clean and tried fasting, peas fasting peas etc. This has usually worked with all my fish but nothing seems to work with Dorcas. I've had her for nearly 2 years, but unlike my other fish she hasn't really grown much. She's about 2inch long. She's a surface floater and spends the majority of her day upside down behind the filter. She really has no quality of life, i've also noticed to day that the fin that is closet to the surface has turn red. Can anyone offer advise so that I can help to poor thing get a better quality of life. Thank you!
  5. I use Tetrafin Gold Japan as my staple fish food too. I also feed my Goldies Aquarian goldfish flakes and I make my own gel foods.
  6. I totally agree that it should be band. They wouldn't be giving out puppies or kittens, so I don't see why they should be giving fish out. I consider the little guy that my mum won to be a very lucky guy, I doubt other people who won fish last night had larger containers to put them in, let alone food, a spare tank and equipment.

Hi, Thank you for the quick reply, looks like I will be making pumpkin gel food tonight then
  8. Last night I went to a local fun fair/fireworks display. Both my mum and I was shocked when my she won a goldfish on one of the stores. I didn't think fun fairs still gave out goldfish as prizes, I don't know if i'm correct in saying this, but I thought that it was illegal to have goldfish as prizes in the UK? The only small mercy is that the fish were in plastic tubs and not the usual plastic bag. The fish that we won is now in one of my spare small emergency tanks with a filter, food and properly coonditioned water. I dread to think what has happned to the goldies that have been won by the small children that where running around excitedly all night swinging the tubs about!

Would you feed your Goldies pumpkin? I still have a whole pumpkin left over from Halloween. I was wonder if i could use it to make a pumpkin based gel food. Is this a good idea?
  10. Lucky fish, they and the tank do you proud
  11. Hi, It's great to see pics of your fish again. They have really grown, and do you proud. Beautiful!!
  12. Hi guys, I must admit that most of the fish eating was a little too gruesome for me but I did watch it all. The Koi were amazing, beautiful and really big! But the fermented Sushi and the fish that they caught in the restaurant and ate it when it was still alive made me want to hide behind the sofa. Poor things. The program has also put me off eating Tuna..... Which i hope is a good thing.
  13. Hi, I spotted this advertised in my telly mag for tonight at 9pm on BBC4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00jdw5k By the sound of it I don't think there will be much Koi/Goldfish shown.......but i'm not a soap fan so I thought i'd give it a go.
  14. The top 1 1/2 inch of the mixture was like a really tick jelly cube, but the bottom was a little soggy, but it wasn't bad for a first time. Ive chopped it up into cubes and placed them into the freezer. Tomorrow I'll bag them up and try it out on the fishies. I've already decided what i'm going to add into the veggie mix, red bell pepper, garlic, Broccoli & Cucumber. Good idea or not?
