  1. What if the tubes from my canister don't fit the UV Sterilizer? The outtake from my canister is 1/2", and the adaptors on the UV are 5/8". Is there some kind of adapter I can buy to convert the hose size? Otherwise I would have to connect the intake of the canister (5/8") to the UV Sterilizer.
  2. Hey guys, Since UV radiation is dangerous when in contact with humans, is the UV Sterilizer Housing enough to shield us from such radiation? Is it safe to put one's hands in the water while the UV is running? Thanks.
  3. Hi guys, For those of you who have a UV installed in-line, do you leave it connected even if you don't turn it on? Does this restrict water flow in any way? Thanks.
  4. Would it be by any chance, this? http://www.nnnn.com/product/index.jsp?...8#RatingsDetail
  5. I actually decided to rule out the UV; it's a little out of my budget right now. Would using a canister filter help in my problems?
  6. I have a Whisper, and I added another Internal. It's not all that great, but it was fine when I had algae. I was thinking about the UV Sterilizer, but my only qualm would be replacing the bulbs. How often do you replace it? It seems to run very expensive when I think about it from that point. Would the canister do any help?
  7. Hey guys, About a year and a half ago, I got into the green water setup. I bought some fry and they've benefited tremendously from this, they've grown almost 2-3 inches bigger. But now, I want to try and go back to an all clear, "clean" setup. For a couple weeks, I've tried unsuccessfully to revert back to clear water. I'd do water changes, and the water would appear clear, but a few days later, it would start to green up again. A couple problems I may see are: 1) Strong lighting. I initially bought a 130W CF Setup, to encourage green water growth. I have a 50 gallon tank, so that's a little under 3 watts per gallon. 2) Lack of a good enough filter. Initially, I had a HOB filter that was fine when I had green water. Would my situation be solved if? 1) I turn off one of the switches, and cut the wattage into 65W. 2) Get a canister filter. (Planned on doing this anyways.) Thanks.
  8. Hi guys, Is it possible to pave a wooden pond frame with cement, as an alternative liner?
  9. Hey guys, Is it possible to build an above ground pond thats 500 gallons or greater with around 100 dollars? (Excluding the filter, and supplies, etc.)
  10. It gets around 50 degrees at night, and the garage does not have the large "gate" in front of the garage, so it is open, it feels as cold as it is outside. Thanks for shedding light on this; would a better heater be any different, like the Visitherm?
  11. It's outside in the garage, could that be the reason?
  12. Wait, so its natural? I thought heaters were supposed to maintain a consistent temperature, not have them fluctuate. The set temperature was 76 degrees, yet when I woke up in the morning it was 70 degrees, using a submersible thermometer.
  13. Did your Whisper Heaters have a hard time maintaining the right temperature? I shut the light off at 76 degrees, and it would intermitently turn on to "heat up", but I just woke up and checked the tank, it dropped 6 degrees!
  14. Hey Pixie, I have an API Master Freshwater Test Kit, I used this brand before. I will continue to test daily for any paramater changes, but so far so good. The fixed water changes are a guideline, if there wasn't anything wrong with the water I would do changes at that rate. Thanks for informing me about the pleco situation; I got a bristlenose and hopefully it does not cause too much problems, I've never kept plecos before. The larger one is about 6 inches, the smaller around 4. Thanks again!
  15. Hey guys, I've resumed my fish keeping hobby after a 2 year hiatus (I used to post on these boards.), so I'm a bit rusty, forgive me for that. I just got two comets and a pleco for my 45 gallon tank, as of late, the smaller comet has been bottom sitting most of the time. So here are my params: Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 10 ppm PH Level: 7.5 Tank size : 45 gallons, ran for three days, established a cycle with three bags of tank water from the store. Filter: Whisper 60 How often do you change the water and how much: So far I haven't done any changes yet, but I plan to change once a week, at 25%. What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime Any medications? Nope Food: Omega-One Sinking Shrimp Pellets Any unusual findings on the fish: Nope Unusual Behavior: The smaller comet is sitting on the gravel. The larger comet is active after I've salted and heated. Thanks guys. I've had the tank salted with 1 Tbsp per 5 Gallons as a general tonic, and I keep a tank temperature around 76 degrees.
  16. Thanks for the reply. After a couple hours, its risen to 70 degrees fahrenheit. Is it supposed to be this slow? Thanks.
  17. Okay, thanks. Also, once I've reached the right temperature, how do I shut off the light? Do I continue turning the knob in the + direction until the light shuts off or do I turn in the - direction? Thanks again.
  18. Are the Whisper heater metal coils supposed to turn orange, like the household parabolic heaters? Mine just stay at the regular metal coloring. Thanks.
  19. Hey guys, I've solved the problem, Thanks!
  20. hey guys, I have a heater that I just bought for the tank, but I cannot put enough water so that its at the minimum water level, as the tank would overflow. The edges of the tank are a bit thick, so the water is around .5" below the minimum line. Is that okay; would it change much? Thanks.
  21. Hey guys, I'm looking to get either a Fluval 204 or a Whisper 60 for my 40 gallon tank. Which would be the better solution? The Fluval Cannister has a lower GPH than the Whisper 60, but I intend on having a planted tank. Thanks.
  22. Thanks guys, I'll get a picture up ASAP. Are there any online-purchaseable pentagon hoods that can fit this? Measurements maybe a little off. Thanks!
  23. Hey guys, are there any types of submerisble lighting that can be used instead of lighting/hood?
  24. Sorry! It's 21" in height. Thanks.
