  1. I only lost one fish, he was beat up by the other fish. It wasn't an illness. I got rid of the other fish because it was a bully and I didn't want it to beat up the next fish I brought home. I'll do the salt and prazi, thanks.
  2. Yes, but what I'm I going to do in that tank that I shouldn't in this one? He is in a breeder so he has space his space. Is the stress of the move and the unstable water quality of a qt worth it? He is gulping at the surface now. I've had goldies for 11 yrs and I've never had one act this way for no apparent reason.
  3. No, the 2 fish I have now are new I got them at the same time. Little Guy is floaty and lethargic but he hasn't been picked on. There is nothing on his body that looks odd.
  4. It would have been more like 3 weeks ago, not 6. It sure seems like it's been longer.
  5. I had 2 other fish before. One picked on the other, then over Christmas we were gone for 2 days and he got picked to the point of torn up fins and missing scales. I got rid (gave it to the LPS) of the abuser and treated the beat up guy, but he got dropsy and died. I don't have any way to video, sorry. Now that he's in the breeder net he is just floating mid level in it. He does move around now and then but other wise he looks dead (besides gill movement).
  6. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level 0 * Nitrite Level 0 * Nitrate level 5 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Aquarium Pharm drops and Jungle strips (I wanted to see if they would come out the same) * Water temperature? 72 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 20 gal, 5 yrs * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Aqua Clear 200 * How often do you change the water and how much? Once a week 50% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 5 * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Novaqua + and Amquel + * What do you feed your fish and how often? Sinking pellets, tubifex worms, earthworm sticks, peas. Twice a day * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Epson salt and Melafix used about 6 weeks ago (for a fish that didn't make it) * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Nothing * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? He was gulping at the top a little bit yesterday. Now today he is just floating at the top and is pushed around by the current. I put him in a breeder net and turned the filter down. I did get him to eat a piece of pea, but he isn't interested in food like he usually is (and was yesterday) My other fish is just fine.
  7. Probably depends on the goldfish's personal taste or distaste for them. 3 of my goldies lived with apple snails and never ate them. If the fish did peck at them they tucked into their shells. Currently I have 2 snails (not sure what kind they are though) in with 2 goldies and all are well.
  8. My plants are actually doing ok although I'd like to give them a little extra CO2 (growth has been slow). But I don't want to go through all the DIY stuff when my plants are doing ok. Anyway I saw this in a catalog and was wondering if it actually worked. So if anyone has used, or heard anything about it, I'd love to know! Thanks
  9. I use frozen peas and just microwave them a little, till they are soft, peel the shell off and if your fish is smaller I smoosh then between my fingers and drop them in. My goldies Love peas!

My oldest is Finner (a fantail) he is about 4 years old and about 7" long (including tail). He acts just like a dog when you go by his tank, wagging his tail like crazy
  11. Good Idea! I should have thought of that. Thanks!
  12. It is US gallons. I used the formula above and although I had to round the answer I got I think it is pretty accurate. Thanks!
  13. Hello, I know I saw a calculator on some website to get the volume of a tank by its dimentions. But I can't seem to find it, I tried searching the message board with no luck so I apologize if this is an old topic. Thanks
  14. I like fantails the best myself I have a beautiful 6" one Finner and a 1" one Skittish. I do have a place in my heart for all goldies though.
  15. I was actually looking at loaches today at the lps, now I think I'll have to get one next time. I think Houdini would be a cute name !
