  1. I have just set up my tank in my bed room and am wondering what kind of things i now need to avoid doing. e.g. I have stopped using spray deodrants and now use rolls ons, can i still wear perfume etc if i remember to stand well away from tank to spray? Im guessing scented candles are now a no no, can i still burn unscented ones? if i use nail polish/remover in my room can the fumes get in the tank water? What else do i need to think about? Thanks
  2. When my fish died last year I Just turned the filters off and left the tank with all the plants and gravel etc without emptying it or washing it out. A lot of water has evaporated but there is still a few inches of water in the tank and the filter (external) is still full of water. And so my question is....Can i just top the tank up with water, turn the filter back on and let it cycle? as its still in water will there be bacteria in the gravel and filter still for cycling? I would rather not completely empty tank if it an be avoided. Thanks for your help
  3. As i only put him in the QT tank to medicate him but now he needs to come out of the medicine can i not just put him back in his tank? this way i can get him out of the medicine and not have to worry about cycling th QT tank while he is in it as his tank is cycled? i can put somethin in the tank to seperate them while he gets better to stop the other one trying to bite him.

  5. My LFS is terrible, im surprised they can even spell Goldfish. They do not sell water testing kit when asked just shrugged it off. Its only a small town so will probs have to travel a bit further to get the kits. i put the filter back on and he is freaking out again but at least he is not lying on the bottom now more, just hope he doesnt stress himself too much. its horrible to see him like this when a few hours ago before i tryed to help he he was happily swimming about. i just wanted to treat him quickly before he got worse but i feel like i have made him worse will the medicine get filtered out now the filter is on?

[*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? regular tank- external canister tank now- fluval 1 plus [*]How often do you change the water and how much? once or twice a week 20 litres [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 fish roughly 10cm each [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? none [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? flakes daily [*]Any new fish added to the tank? no [*]Any medications added to the tank? 7. I do not have any kits to test the water. The tank I have put him in is 29.5cm x 19cm x 32cm but it is not filled all the way to the top so about 21cm not 32cm. His regular tank is 60cm x 30cm x 35cm and has a external canister filter and water is changed once a week, sometimes twice if i remember and has been running 7 months. There is another Goldfish in here and they have been together nearly 3 years. I feed them flake food once a day. The Medicine I used was Interpet Disease Safe
  8. Last night I noticed that one of my goldfish had a white lump surround by a red patch on one of his fins. He did seem bothered by it and was happily swimmin around so i just ashumed he had mayb injured himslef on somethin and i gave him a water change and left them as usual. then this morning i noticed the other fish was bothering him, looked like he was tryin to bite the patch on his fin. so i took some of the tank water and placed it in to a small spare tank that i have and put the sick fish in there incase the other one hurt him more. i put a small filter in to the tank to circulate the water so he had lots of oxygen but when i turned it on he completely flipped out and nearly jumped out of the tank so i took it out not to stress him. i then gave him interpet disease safe which i used last time he got sick. the thing is now he is just lieing at the bottom of the tank and not moving and when he does move he just swims straight in to the side of the tank. im really worried that mayb i have made him ill or poisoned him with the medicine or something as he really did not seem bothered about his fin when he was in his tank and even when the other fish was biting him he just chased him back. Have i made him ill??? i dont know wether to put him back in his tank where he was happy but with no medicine cause im scared the medicine has made him ill. part of me is thinking i sud leave him in the medicine and mayb he is lying on the bottom cause he is sulking as he is now in a tank 3 times smaller than his with no rocks or plants and mayb he is missing his friend. shall i take him out of the medicine or leave him in it?
  9. the light in my tank keeps flashing on and off is it likely to need a new bulb or a whole new lighting unit

  14. I bought a second hand filter for ?23 but its an external canister one and was in really good condition. I set it up yesterday woooooo I threw in loads of gunk out of their filter, one of their ornaments and a pinch of fish food to help get the cycle started. I dnt move bk to uni for anova month yet so hopefully the tank will be cycled by then I told my goldfish they are moving house, theyre very excited!!! haha

  16. I live in Essex and Use Wet Pets in Romford Click for Link They are really helpful and have some beautiful fish There is also one called Tranquility Aquactics. AVOID AVOID AVOID I have had 3 tanks wiped out from various infected fish and plants.

  18. Last year I bought a small fish tank and two lil goldies to brighten up my Uni bedroom but thanks to this site i have learnt that the 20litre tank they are in atm is way tooo small for them. BUT i have two problems...A. im on a student budget and B. my room is tiny and i will not be aloud to keep the tank in comunal areas. I picked up a bargain tank the other day for ?10. its 24" by 12" by 14" and came with a stand and lighting unit. It takes up a fair amount of space in the room so I cant get anything bigger untill i leave uni in another years time but is holds around 60 litres so it 3x bigger than their tank atm which is a big improvement and hopefully they will b happy lil fish Lookin in lfs and pet stores a 600 gph filter is gonna cost me ?30+ but i wud prefer to get a brand new one than a second hand one which will leave me with hardly any money left for decorations To save money can i buy gravel and rocks in homebase/B and Q?? They sell pea gravel and slate chips which look exactly the same as the ones i have seen in lfs but much cheaper. Also they had little terracota plant pots which i thought may look nice in the tank, can i use these? I will wash it thoroughly before puttin it in the tank
  19. I think lego looks awsome in tanks. If ur worried about water getting between the bricks and goin stagnent you could always take the lego out when u do your waterchange take it apart and rinse it and then put it back.
  20. I got a lil carried away with the camera. These are what i imagine the tank looks like to the fish inside, hehe
