  1. So 25% WC each day replacing just 25% of the dosage or 100%? Sorry I'm confused (I blame the holiday season!!)
  2. Thanks Sharon. I was under the impression I was going to treat Winston in QT, as such I don't have enough meds to treat the whole tank. Additionally, Metro+ says to dose everyday following full or partial water change. The Furan-2 says dose daily with daily water change of 25%. Should I do bucket to bucket everyday (100% WC) or just 25%/day? Recommended dosage of each med; Metro+ - 9.7g per 10 gallons per day for 5-7 days (I have 194g in total) Furan-2 - 1 packet per 10 gallons per day for 4 days which may be repeated (I have 10 packets so enough for only 10 days in QT) What do you recommended I do?
  3. Aww...thank you! He seems perfectly happy in himself, just looks a bit ropey
  4. As requested... Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) – 0.25ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank) – 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) – 20ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) – 0.25ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) – 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) – 5ppm. Nitrates out my tap are generally 20-40ppm so I use a Pozzani filter to filter the water into tubs which I treat with Prime and usually let sit for 24hrs before adding to the tank. The ‘tap’ figures above are the levels in the water that has been filtered, treated and stood. * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) – 7.4ph * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) – 7.4ph Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API freshwater master kit (drops) * Water temperature? – 25C (77F) * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? Juwel Rio 240 (approx. 240l) running for 2.5 years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Internal Juwel Bioflow 3.0 (600lph) & Fluval FX6 (3500lph) set up on 01-Dec * How often do you change the water and how much? 150 litres at the weekend with a midweek change of approx. 90 litres. * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Sunday 150 litres (next one due tonight of 90 litres) * How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 in total. Orange Fantail “Dad” approx. 12 years old (5” body), Chocolate Oranda “Piggy” approx. 2 years old (6” body), White Oranda “Winston” approx.. 2 years old (4” body), 3 nerite snails * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Tetra Gold Japan, Hikari Oranda Gold (saturated using a pellet pump), peas a couple of times a week, occasional veggie usually lettuce/cucumber, Repashy Soilent Green * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? Currently running with 10 drops of silver (replaced every other day or after WC) * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Melafix and Pimafix 9-Oct to 14-Oct Salt Dips (Winston) 15-Oct to 20-Oct (max. 2% for 5 mins) Fluke Solve 29-Oct to 12-Nov (2 weeks) Salt @ 0.3% Silver Dips (Winston) 29-Oct to 9-Nov Fluke Solve in QT tank (Winston) 12-Nov to 26-Nov (2 weeks) Salt @ 0.3% Silver in main tank (10 drops) 10-Dec to date * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Main issue is with Winston the white oranda – displaying red/bloody/ragged/spotty/lumpy fins, red patch to cheeks & under chin, strange raised patch to one side (almost like raised scales), red sore to belly which comes & goes (currently gone), red pimples on wen. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? All fish are swimming & feeding well. Images below were taken last night. More can be found here, please take a look to see him at his worst & best - http://s613.photobucket.com/user/titch_ajb/library/Winston I now have the following meds... Metro+, Triple Sulpha, Furan-2, Silver, Myxazin, Sterazin, Fluke Solve,
  5. Good morning you lovely people! Just to let you know that my fishy drugs have arrived from the US!! So I'm in your hands...what am I doing next? I have Metro+, Triple Sulpha & Furan-2.
  6. Thanks Koko. I really appreciate everyone's help. Had fish for so long but I'm such a newbie when it comes to 'looking after them'!! Lol!
  7. OK. I'm doing a smaller change tonight (90 litres) so will add 10 drops tonight. I'll do a larger change tomorrow (150 litres) so will add another 10 then. The next change will be on Saturday (150 litres) so I'll add 10 then. Or am I only supposed to add back in what I've removed during the WC? One other thing... and I hope you don't mind me asking... why only 10 drops? This seems really low in comparison to the ratio for dips. I realise dips are just that, dips, so can be more concentrated for short-term exposure, I'm just surprised at such a big difference. I'm not questioning you...honestly...I trust you completely!! I just wondered. All hail the mods!!
  8. Thanks Koko. So I'll treat the main tank with 10 drops following my large water change (tomorrow). Do I treat once and leave until next water change and then add another 10, or do I add 10 drops/day? As for silver baths, I'm not doing any at the moment so can't 'increase'. Do you want me to do these alongside the main tank treatment too? I think you mean 8 drops per 2 gallons for the dip. Is that right? Also, are the dips for Winston only or for Dad as well? If for both, can they go in together or do I need to use 'fresh' silver solutions for each of them? Thanks x
  9. I'm back with an update... and it's not great... Winston's redness is back, along with the sore on his belly and funny looking scales along his side (although this isn't as bad as it has been). His tail looks quite 'lumpy' in places too. The meds are on their way from Vitamin Grocer (departed export facility in New York on Monday 5th) so I only have salt, silver, Fluke Solve, Myaxcin and Sterazin in the cupboard. Might silver or salt dips ease it? I also have slight problem with Dad (fantail) - during the excitement of feeding time the other day, he got knocked into the bogwood and managed to scrape the flesh on his cheek/gill plate. There was a bit of skin hanging off but that's now dropped off leaving an open graze. Will this heal on it's own or do I need to intervene? Images below... Thank you!!
  10. Thanks Koko. Anything I should add to my VitaminGrocer UK shopping list?
  11. Thanks FishMandy. Looks like UK site has a different range of products to the AU site as there doesn't seem to be any Seachem meds available to me I've seen the ***plex products recommended on Kokos so it would've been nice to get my hands on them, but I'll have to make do with the alternatives I guess.
  12. Thank you both for the suggestions. I'm going to go ahead and order from VitaminGrocer.co.uk - purely for the fact that AAP want nearly $40 to ship and I really REALLY don't have that kind of money to spare (you'll see why below...). The plan is; 2 x Hikari Metro Plus 1 x API Furan 2 1 x API Triple Sulfa And anything else you think is a must My tank runs at 7.6ph - is Tetracycline useful at this PH? I can't see Kanaplex/Kanamycin or Accriflavine - are there alternatives on VG I can order? Anyhoo.... I'd just finished my WC yesterday and was packing all my bits & bobs away and happened to open the cupboard where my external filter sits (I have it sat in a pyrex dish to catch any drips/leaks) and it's a good job I did. The dish had just started to overflow - I hadn't noticed the water level dropping Cue mad dashing around for towels, unplugging of filter and general panic!!! So...Santa has come very early and today I have ordered a Fluval FX6 with next day delivery, booked tomorrow off work and plan on spending the day setting it up. I don't really have the money to spare but I know my family are all giving me FX6 donations for Christmas, so I can at least pay the credit card off pretty soon. Not good timing though. Will the filter media be OK until tomorrow? I've kept it in some tank water hoping I could just pop it straight into the FX6 to help things along.
  13. Woop!! Thanks Sharon. I think they've missed one-another.
  14. Is there anything else I should order Sharon? Winston's 2nd round of FS finishes tomorrow. Do you want me to keep him in QT or can he go back with his buddies? His belly has a small red patch (smaller than in post #74) and his fins are looking a lot whiter (still some red present though).
  15. Thank you both. I had read the reviews but they're mainly from people buying general items (perfume, tea, make-up etc) - not prescription-only meds. That was my concern. I just wanted real-world experiences of people that have used them for 'contraband'!!
  16. Hello UK folk Not been on Koko's for long, but Shakaho and Koko are doing a fine job of helping me out in the D&D forum. I've been asked to get hold of some Metro Plus to help with a bacterial infection, but I realise this isn't something that's readily available in the UK. Whist I'm at it I figured I may as well order some other 'non-UK' meds to keep in the cupboard just in case and was told Furan 2 and Triple Sulfa would be goods things to have. I had planned on ordering from VitaminGrocer.co.uk which is a US based company that ships to the UK, but I have some reservations. Has anyone used them before? Did you have any issues with customs? I guess I'm just concerned that if I order from them and the shipment is seized (is this likely with meds such as these?) then I've just wasted my money. If you have any other sources for non-UK meds you could let me in on, I'd be really REALLY grateful Thank you!!
  17. OK, thanks. Likely to order the Hikari Metro Plus from VitaminGrocerUK - will 1 pack be enough (3.4oz / 97g) for 2 weeks? I'm guessing not based on the directions on the website... (he's in a 40 litre container) Directions As A Bath: As a bath treatment for external metronidazole-susceptible, microbial diseases of marine and freshwater aquarium and pond fishes (e.g. hole-in-the-head and lateral line), use 1 capful (~9.7g) per 10 gallons of water. A partial or complete water change should be made just prior to beginning treatment and every 24 hours thereafter, followed by re-treatment. Any water used should first be conditioned with ULTIMATE or a combination of Liquid Buffered ClorAm-X and Stress-X to remove ammonia, chlorine and chloramines. Repeat the treatment every 24 hours for 5 to 7 days or until mortalities cease or healing of leasions occurs. If improvement is not noted within three (3) days, discontinue treatment and consider other therapy. Also, do you recommend me buy anything else to keep in stock - shipping is free if I spend over £20, so figure if there's something you think I ought to have in my arsenal that proves tricky to get in the UK, I may as well order it at the same time. Thanks again.
  18. Hi Sharon - could you let me know how I should treat with metronidazole please? Just want to get an idea of the process (main tank or QT, required water changes, dosage, pack size required, dose the water or food, etc). Provided I can get some that is... There's a few images below of Winston's tail fin. I think it looks a little bit better. Belly is much the same.
  19. How about Waterlife's Octozin? Having searched the forums, I see this has been used in place of Metro before. Can this be used in my case?
  20. Thanks Sharon - I'll do some digging. Out of interest...is there much difference between human antibiotics and fishy antibiotics? I'm thinking in general but also specifically about Erythromycin, Doxycycline & Lymecycline.
  21. Another update... Winston finished his 1st round (in QT) of FS on Saturday and he seems to have the start of another red patch on his belly - looks to be in the same place as the previous one. Fins are still red and streaky. I started round 2 yesterday (Sunday) so the patch may well disappear again in a couple of days. Any ideas why he's getting this and why it seems to reappear at the end of the FS treatment? Is it fluke related or could the FS be masking symptoms of something else?
  22. OK, will continue with FS & salt at 0.3% unless I hear anything different. Will post some updates next week. Have a good weekend all!
