  1. I'm so sorry he passed! Sometimes they rapidly worsen and there isn't much to be done. You were right on top of his condition. And did your best. Frantic swimming in your remaining fish is something id like a video of - can you help us with that? Just to make sure whatever was ailing Guy didn't spread :(

Chris here... He seems to have calm down for the moment but I took a video anyway... I will try to upload it... But I'm can be a techno retard with this stuff... Is there a way to email it to you??? If I can't get it uploaded???

    Thank you....

  2. I'm so sorry and also worried about Mr. Potato Head.  Racing around the tank may indicate he's afraid he will get caught and disappear like Guy did.

    .

Thank you Shakaho... I'm keeping a close eye on him... Not that that does anything for him, but it helps me focus on the next steps for the tank...

    I have tested this mornings water... pH - 8.0, ammonia= 0-.25, nitrite = 5, nitrate = 10-20...

I have pulled water for the experiment testing and set it aside... What do you recommend for the WC amout today.... I'd like to do that b4 the testing... And should I do any thing different to the tank today??? Guy was not returned to the tank after yesterday's WC.... And he did pass in his hospital tub... I just want to make sure the tank is safe as possible for Mr. Potato Head....

  3. Im sorry hun :hug

you got so much on your plate but we will try and help you hun :)

    Dear Koko,

Thank you for the support... It's gonna be a tough day... But we keep, keeping along... I have another fish to save... I must have many lessons to learn here... I pray that I learn them without any more loss of life...

    In gratitude,

    Chris

  4. Chris here.... To Helen, Arctic Mama, Fantailfan1, Koko and the others That shared their encouragement of my little "Guy"... He did not make it thru the night... Thank you so very much.... My heart is very heavy but I'm still having to focus on Mr. Potato Head... When I checked on him (after I discovered Guy's passing). I find him swimming frantic around his tank... So I guess I'm not ment to morn just yet... I have another fish to try and save...

Thank you for your advise, kindness and concern,

    Chris.

  5. Good morning Shakaho, I'm sorry to say that "Guy". Did not make it thru the night.... :( I Just came down stairs and he is gone... Now I'm concerned for Mr. Potato Head... Is racing around in the tank... Up, down all around... :(

I'll be happy to do the water testing as soon as I get my wits about me... I will do the normal water test shortly since Mr. Potato Head swimming behavior has my attention....

  6. The smallest size is still pretty big and it's a ten day course. I used it for multiple fish and still have over half the bag left. I ordered the three ounce size.

And remember you have a choice - if you'd be more comfortable with waterborne meds then get the metronidazole and triple sulfa (or metroplex and sulfaplex if you're ordering all Seachem brand). Either course of treatment is an option and both would benefit from all the other specifics Helen suggested.

Chris here... I have no experience so your guidance is greatly appreciated... Is the meds that Helen prescribed also in food form or are they a water or topical treatment??? Would Amazon carry them if I can't find them locally???

    Thank you!!!

  7. Lisa, no Furan with that pH, too high. Triple sulfa is a better choice. I agree with Helen's recs :)

Taryl, in this situation, if you feel that Oxytetracycline would work well in addition to the combination of meds advised, please make the recommendation and provide a link where the OP can purchase from.

In this case it would have to be either the metronidazole or the oxytetracycline, not both. And I'm not positive how it plays with the sulfas, but we do know metro doesn't interact with it. So either the metro/sulfa combo of the oxy flakes. It's up to the op.http://www.angelsplus.com/FlakeMedAntibiotic.htm

It's the antibiotic II flake, what oxytetracycline :)

Chris here.... Hi Arctic Mama, I have looked at the link you provided... (Thank you!). I'm a newbie so please forgive my ignorance... This is food that I would feed Guy? If so what quantity should I order???

  8. Hi Helen, I placed guy in a 20 gallon tub half full... Treated the water with prime, seachem stress guard and one tsp of aquarium salt... Ther is also an air stone in the tub... I went to petco and Petsmart to see what if any meds they had... All that was available was API Melafix and API General Cure... It's 8pm here in the states on the west coast so I'm toast on what I can do tonight... Tomorrow is a national holiday here in the states, but I can get the Epsom salts for sure but the rest I will have to call around and see if any aquarium stores are open and or have what you are prescribing... Monday may be an issue as well do to observance of the holiday... But I will try... Will also check Amazon, but that is at least a few days or more because of the holiday... It is a really terrible time to have something like this to happen... But I will do all that I can to get wat is needed in a hurry... :(

The Melafix states that it treats: bacterial infections, rapidly repairs damaged fins, ulcers, open wounds and promotes regrowth of damaged tissue and fins...

    Active ingredient: Melaleuca 1.0%

    Extracted from tea trees...

Guy is swimming well, eating well so far... That is what I have for now....

    Thank you for your response....

    Chris

  9. Chris here... I just finished a 75% WC ... I separated the boys... Before the WC, Mr Potato Head was aggressively pushing and lifting Guy... So I put "Guy" in our largest popcorn bowl with prime treated water... I haven't returned him to the tank yet.... I took a few more pictures.... Please advise on a path... I'm not sure what that is be cause of the back and forth discussion.... Thank you..

  10. 75% should be fine.

    Will do.... :)

Shakaho, Chris here... 75% WC completed... Post WC numbers: ammonia = .25, nitrite = .25, nitrate = 5

  11. We may have explained the impossible nitrite reading.  I read reports from various people on various sites that Prime lowered the nitrite reading.  Virtually everyone pooh-poohed these reports, except for a few who said, "It happened to me too."

Actually, Seachem said that Prime might affect ammonia and nitrite readings with the API test kit, and thus you should buy Seachem's test kit which doesn't.

When you do your water change,  you dilute 1/4 of the old water with tap water, which should give you 1/4 of the pre-change nitrite reading.   However you read much less nitrite post water change.  Is it because the Prime that you add along with the tap water lowers the nitrite reading?   Maybe.

I have a more useful experiment for tomorrow, using a more normal dose of Prime.    I'll give instructions later, after I've thought about it a while.

Shakaho,  what do you recommend for the WC???  100%???  Thank you...

  12. Chris here...

  14. Chris here... I woke up to a new problem this morning... While getting ready to feed my boys, I notice my little "Guy" is missing a chunk of his wen above his left eye!!! Talk about flipping out!!! I have tried to take some pictures of him but it's hard with one hand... As soon as my husbandis available il post better ones...He doesn't seem effected as yet... He ate well and swims well... I have him in a floating basket right now... Mr Potato Head was chasing him and lifting him, when I first noticed the damage... But that is usual behavior before feeding... Water tested this morning is: PH=8.2, ammonia = 0-.25, nitrite = 5, nitrate = 10-20.I have been fighting a nitrite spike for a month now... For information on that issue please see High Nitrites in the Water condition area of the forums...Please advise on what I should do about this.... Thanks so very much...Pictures to follow....<a href="http://s86.photobucket.com/user/thelaphams/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-06/2016-07/5147DD97-E68C-4FC6-93D3-9EE2CD63FE9F_zpssmmemq87.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k116/thelaphams/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-06/2016-07/5147DD97-E68C-4FC6-93D3-9EE2CD63FE9F_zpssmmemq87.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 5147DD97-E68C-4FC6-93D3-9EE2CD63FE9F_zpssmmemq87.jpg"/></a><a href="http://s86.photobucket.com/user/thelaphams/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-06/2016-07/61DF4747-D60A-433D-B1DB-71904435A268_zpsfb1tth8m.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k116/thelaphams/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-06/2016-07/61DF4747-D60A-433D-B1DB-71904435A268_zpsfb1tth8m.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 61DF4747-D60A-433D-B1DB-71904435A268_zpsfb1tth8m.jpg"/></a>

  15. Chris here... Sorry for the late arrival... I have a new challenge this morning...(like I needed another right???). I'll start a different thread on that issue :(.

Shakaho, I did the testing and experiment you requested..... As well as took pictures...

Here are the results... PH=8.0, ammonia = 0-.25, nitrite = 5, nitrate =10-20.... Experiment: 1 drop (very small drop) then nitrite test = 0...

Shakaho, please check new thread as soon as I get it posted... Give me a Little bit to get pictures up... My husband will help me shoot then as soon as he gets back...

  16. I've done it before for a few members. Let me know if you're interested for real. :rofl

You have a new AC70, right?

Fantailfan1... You are an angel!!! Yes I have an AC70 and a Marineland Bio Wheel running right now... Another AC70 is on it's way from Amazon... It should be here next week... I had wanted to get this tank under control and then upgrade to a 40... I had ordered it in prep for the 40 down the road... I found a great price thru Amazon for it... Less than $40, so I jumped on it... :). I would be happy to send $$ for media and shipping... Your generosity should not be a burden to you... <3

  17. Chris here... Will do Shakaho...

Fantailfan1, I getting that desperate!!! My husband thinks I'm crazy for knocking myself out for these little guys.... I'm starting to think I might be ready for the rubber room soon... ... The one thing that keeps me on it is my little guys are hanging tough and have not

become stressed with all the WCs... Poor babies... :(

Koko, Fantailfan1 and Shakaho... Thanks sooo much for your help... <3

  18. Same old same old. Your nitrite test keeps doing the impossible. :)

I just read something that makes me want you to do an experiment.

When you test nitrite before the water change tomorrow use two tubes of water.

Add a drop of Prime to one tube.

Then test both tubes for nitrite.

Do they give the same reading?

I will do it... Do you want a photo of the results??? Or just numbers???
