  1. Good Morning Taryl and Shannon,

I want you thank you for your support and guidance in trying to help me treat Pepper, my beautiful bronze Oranda.  Unfortunately she has continued to deteriorate to the point I cannot let her continue to

suffer...  She has been a fighter, but she is to the point that a recovery isn’t looking possible...  She is sooooo bloated and fully pine coned, that from the inside out a wound is trying to open on her side...  She is not eating and I have been attempting to force feed her unsuccessfully...  For the last 9 days, every time I try to feed her she spits it right back out. I do know some of the food gets in her body but not enough to sustain and heal her...  So with a heavy heart I’m letting go over the rainbow bridge today...

This is shared in gratitude for you being here and being a wonderful source knowledge and support...

Thank you again, Hugs to both of you,

    Chris. 💕

  2. Hi Taryl,

I have done a water change to remove the kana and uneaten food...  I have decided to feed her in a bucket outside the tub so there will not be any uneaten food in her hospital tub...  Also it will allow me to see how much she is eating based on her waste in the tub...  This morning I gave her 3 pinches of the Oxy food...  She ate the first, part of the second and spit out the third... while in her holding bucket...  She is still is very bloated...  Kind of like a water balloon...  I inspected her closely and there is a hint that  pineconing is starting...  Looking very weary closely there is a slight lift of her scales beginning...She had one tiny poo 💩 , a little over 1/2 inch of last nights Oxy food in the tub this morning...

    Thank you....  🤞🤞🤞

  3. Hi,

Chris here....  My female has not improved...  She is still very bloated and floating alternating her side or belly up...  Still doing Epsom salts at 1/2 tsp for every 10  gallons,  gave her 4 peas on Wednesday and the appeared as waist on Friday....  only partially digested...  Her slime coat is heavier than normal...  I have been gently messaging her twice a day....  So, I’m guessing she not egg bound...  No dropsy as yet...  I’m just not sure how to proceed...  I started to add metroplex to her water the last two days...  No improvement... ☹️   Any advice would be wonderful...

  4. Hi,

I started fasting her yesterday....  I will up the Epsom salt to 1/2 t from The 1/4 t per 10 gallons, that I put in the tub at today’s water change...  I’ve put a heater in the tub...  What do you recommend for a temp?  Right now the tub has warmed from 71 to 74...  I keep the tank right around 77.-78.  I’ll watch the video and try to give her a gentle messaging....

    Thanks sooooo much,

  5. Hi Shannon & Taryl,

Thanks for getting back to me...  Today is water change day for the tank...  So I’ve been up to my arm pits in Fishy water...  I also changed the hospital tub...  I redosed the tub with Epsom salt, Stress Zyme, and Melafix...  I also added a heater to the tub due to the temperature dropping over night from 76 to 71...

I’ve attached 3 photos, 1 from the top, 1 from the side and of course her bottom....

Hopefully you can give me some ideas on how to help her....

    Thanks,  Chris

  6. Hi, Chris here...  I know, long time no speak...  I hope all is well all...  Life sure has become more challenging these days...  Thank goodness The covid virus is not a fishy issue....

I have a beautiful bronze female Oranda...  Just about 2 years old...  I believe she has become egg 🥚 bound...  I have always kept males so that I wouldn’t have this issue...  But, she was a gift along with her brother at about 3 months old...  So identifying the sex was a best guess with them being so young...  She and her brother have been strong robust fish...  Pepper ( my female) has grow strong and large...  She approximately 9 inches long...  In the spring she dropped eggs on 3 or 4 occasions without issue and my males loved having a caviar snack...  She did this without assistance from the boys...  The boys are to dumb to figure out what to do when she did drop eggs other than enjoying a snack... 🤪🤪🤪

I have placed her in quarantine and have dosed the tub with Aqueon Water conditioner, API Stress zyme & Melafix...  Also added Epsom salt at 1/4 tsp per 10 gallons.   She has not been fed today...  Tub temp matched to the tank temp of 76 degrees..

  7. Hi all,

Chris here...  My Buster has hurt himself... 😱....  Sometime overnight Buster managed to get himself stuck between the skimmer and the tank wall...😯.   I found him this morning and rescued him...  The only actual injury I can see I’d the leading edge of one of his pectoral fin is broken...  But this symptoms are an unwillingness to swim, floating upside down...  Due to his unwillingness to swim I added a glass box to the tank for him to rest in and to avoid floating at the top and damage of being exposed to air....  Pictures will be attached...  Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated...💕

I had my apartment tented years ago. This is what I did.

I took all my fish out into buckets and the media into another bucket. Then I changed 50% of the water everyday where I had then and my filter running too.

    The tank:

I took trash bags and taped it to the top of the tank, Making sure it was sealed off. Then When I got back I did a water change in the tank, and let the filters run in the tank for about 2 hours then I put the fish back in. If you make sure the tank is sealed off then it shouldn't be a problem :)

You could get two rubber maid containers run your filters in them and do 50% water changes. :)

Chris here...  Thank you Koko! :heart   I’m on the hunt for 2 larger rubber maid tubs...  Were the trash bags the big black ones for sealing the tank up?  Or the white Kitchen type?  I was thinking of Just draining the tank and leaving it empty while the house is empty...  but I always do 100% water change each week...  So I’ll just leave the old water in the tank and water change it before I bring the boys home...  I was concerned that I would have to do a major sterilization of the tank it self...  or that I would have to get it totally out of the house during the tenting....  75 gallon tanks are pain to totally relocate and then bring back...  heavy beasts...  I told my Hubby that 75 gallon is as big as we will ever go....  Huge difference from a 40....  😱😋😱😋

  9. Chris here....  😋

Hi Kokonuts,  I need some advice please....  🙃.  In the near future, our home is to be tented for 3 days for treatment of termites...  It will be some type a gas treatment...   Dang it....

I need to get the boys out of the house.  I know that I’ll have to put them in more than one tub, and some how protect all their media... My boys are pretty good size.  Their bodies average 4 inches, nose to peduncle (not including tail fins).  Their tank is a 75 gallon with 2 AC 110’s, 1-4” sponge filter and 1-5” sponge filter.   So here are my questions:

    1.  What size tubs would best for at least 4 day stay?   Assuming that each tub will have to support 1 AC 110, 1 sponge filter and two of the boys.

    2.  I need to know how to protect the tank from contamination...  I will drain and remove all the decore...   But the tank itself...  Do I need to get it out as well?  If so, would it be fine outside on the patio?  Should I wrap or cover it with something to protect it from the elements?  Or will it be too close to the house while it’s being treated?

    3.  When resetting up the tank....  Do I just do a good cleaning with vinagar water of do I need to do a bleach rinse before I reset up everything?

    4.  Should I delay bringing them home after the House is treated?  (Letting the house air out for a few days???)

    Your advise is greatly appreciated...

    Hugs, Chris.  😍☺️

Pic is not the best, but you get the idea.... 😋

  10. Chris here...  My heart hurts for you MJ....  It takes a lot of energy to care for broken babies....  I have been caring for two for the last 2 years, lost one of the two in April...  I think that be cause we invest so much in them it’s harder to loose them... :heart

  11. Chris here....  Fishy tank maintance day!!!!  I cannot believe how much my boys love to rearrange the Tank after their house is cleaned...  They love to push the faux plants around and rearrange the glass pebbles that I pile in the corners...  They do not even have the courtesy of waiting until the next day to rearrange everything....  within 2 hrs of be put back into tank after cleaning, the redecorating begins... 🤪🤪🤪.    Grrrrrrr.... 🤣

Great beautiful tank! Btw what is the tank standing on? Thank!!!

Hi! Chris here...  MJ, Yes! That is Nautilus....  He is an Amoonklein baby all grown up... :heart   Alas, I lost 4 of my babies in a freak accident....  My precious Hindenburg was one....  I missed my rolly polly so much that I now have an new baby “Butterball”. hopefully he/she will grow up to have a goofy personality as all my other babies.... 😉🤪😉

Hi Fastlane,  Thank you!  For you kind words....  The tank rests on a 24”x54”x3/4” finished plywood covered with a black plastic table cloth placed on a two drawer lateral file from my husband’s modular desk... my 40 gallon tank fit perfectly on top of the file base, But due to increased size the 75 gallon we added the plywood to support the larger size.  So far it has worked perfectly in supporting the increased size and weight...  😋😋😋

MJ,   Here is are pics of baby butterball...  😄
