  1. Oh yeah, duckweed would be gone the same day.
  2. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck or experiences with automatic feeders? Do pros outweigh the cons or vice versa? I am going away for over a week in December and have been thinking about these lately. Thoughts?
  3. I'm obsessed with my new babes. IMG_0563.TRIM.MOV
  4. Thanks a lot! Quick question... when it says to ensure that salt is at the appropriate concentration, what does that mean? Can I use PraziPro without salt? I am still trying to figure out how to dissolve it and using my Python...
  5. Thanks, Koko! I’m on mobile right now. Can you direct me to the Prazi treatment recommendations? They are both yawning now semi-frequently but everything else seems just peachy. Boy, I missed having goldies!
  6. They both came from the same stock tank. Do you think it would be advisable to do a round of Prazi? I’ve noticed the orange one ‘yawning’ a bit.
  7. Hi everyone! I am happy to report that this finally happened.
  8. Today I am at: Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 (!!!) Nitrate: Approx. 3 ppm. Safe to say I'm cycled?
  9. So the nitrates seem to have gone down to more normal levels. Shall I just continue the water changes when they get too high? Aug 15: Ammonia 0.25, Nitates 2.0, Nitrates 10-20
  10. In progress. Mid-cycle and rooting stages ☺️ Might be able to do some fish shopping in time for my birthday at the end of the month?! Crossing my fingers 😉
  11. I did a 70% wc today. I will test again tomorrow night and see if that had any impact.
  12. Thank you. Should I do a 50% change now then? Why would removing some speed up the process?
  13. Thanks - this makes me feel a little better! I had a feeling it was normal, but something in the back of my mind wasn’t sitting well. I had obtained a small amount of used media from a fish store, and I also supplemented with a bottled bacteria product the first three days. I have also noticed some filamentous white algae/fungus growing on my wood. I think this is also normal? I’m just letting it do its thing so I haven’t removed anything. I think this will clear up over time?
  14. Hi all, I am in the process of cycling my 75 gallon (fishless). I did a water test last night and my nitrites are extremely dark purple, possibly over 5.0 ppm. I am using the API Master Freshwater test kit with liquid drops. So far my water parameters are: Aug 4: Ammonia 0.25, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, pH 8.0 Aug 11: Ammonia 0.25, Nitrite + 5.0, Nitrate 20 I have heard that a spike in nitrites can delay/destroy a cycle. I have also noticed the water is becoming faintly cloudy, however I know this is normal. The tank has been running for about a month and cycling for two weeks. Any thoughts on what I should do?
  15. I was mainly looking at orandas. But a fish store near-ish to me also stocks ranchus. So that's tempting as well! It's not the nicest stock but you can find some hidden gems in there. There is a breeder that I wouldn't mind ordering from or visiting his facility. It's about two and a half hours away from where I live. However I'm hesitant to spend $40+ on a fish just in case the acclimation period doesn't go over well. I have bad memories
  16. I cannot WAIT to start fish-shopping! You're getting me all excited, Mandy.
  17. I had an oranda that had the eerily similar symptoms as your fish. This was many years ago now, but I do remember that salt treatment cleared it up and did not require medication. He did have permanent damage to the caudal fin spine though, it always looked slightly crooked.
  18. Sorry for the delayed response. So far so good! It's extremely quiet for it's size and fits perfectly in my cabinet. I just have the basics in there at the moment, I haven't had time to tinker around with customizing just yet. I am quite happy with my purchase so far. At this point, the flow rate seems fine. I have the output nozzles angled more towards the surface for more agitation. However this might change once I am fully cycled and adding fish - they might get blown away! LOL. I purchased some wood from my LFS and have been soaking them in a barrell for the past 4 weeks to leach out some tannins. I'm home with a summer sickness (on a long weekend to boot!) and had some time to finally add them to the tank. This is the view from my seat right now. I am hoping to root some Anubias to them and have plans on rooting some pothos from above. My boyfriend wants to build a shelf above the aquarium and put some of our larger house plants up there. We are trying to minimize decorating this place because it is in a half-reno state for the next couple years (pay no mind the wallpaper LOL). Everything is coming along, slowly but surely.
  19. This is actually what I ended up with. They were on sale for almost 60% off at my LFS. I went in to "just look" but ended up walking out with an FX6! Looking forward to setting it up, but a little apprehensive about the size.
  20. I'm looking for recommendations for a filter in my new (to me) 75 gallon aquarium. I'm looking at cannister filters - does anyone have any experience with brands I should be aware of? I've only used HOB filters in the past.
  21. Looks great!! Your fish must be happy Is that natural wood as decor in your tank? If so, how did you clean/sterilize it? I've got a large piece of driftwood that I want to use in my 75 gallon but unsure about how to go about disinfecting it.
