Im sorry I was having a very bad morning with the little one. Yes that part helps keep the tank more pulled in. It supports the tank and the lid. :)

Don’t be sorry! I’m glad I wasn’t too impulsive today and start ripping trim off. Seriously procrastinating and tinkering with the tank a lot.

  2. Hey guys! I really love the look of trimless tanks. I was wondering if anyone has removed the black plastic trim from their tanks. I've seen a few tutorials on Youtube on how to do this, but they all are smaller tanks (20g or less). I have a 75g I would like to remove the trim from. Will this affect the integrity of my aquarium? Is it a bad idea? Would love to hear your thoughts. I want to completely revamp the look of my tank over the winter, and going trimless is part of the plan.

EDIT: Adding pics. My aquarium has these glass covers over the top, with plastic trim running down the middle. I'm not sure if the middle piece is structural or just simply to hold the glass covers in place. I want to get rid of the glass covers as well (they are looking pretty gross with a couple years worth of calcium buildup and I'm too lazy to scrape it, plus they are a pain when doing wc's). Hoping to get a couple gooseneck holders for my LED lighting since right now it just rests on the glass.

Wow that's a nice black Ranchu. I had one like that years ago. I wonder if its a Tvr or Svr.

What qualities makes a ranchu TVR vs SVR? As a ranchu-parent myself, this never crossed my mind?

  4. Thanks Shannon. Been a rough day for me, I feel really terrible. I almost cried to the lady at the grocery store while picking up items to make a charcuterie tonight.

I have a couple buckets sitting out right now for my next wc. I will empty out one of my big tubs and keep it in the closet, I guess. Limited for space in my apartment. I will also look into using baking soda.

The other two have been doing awesome since I moved. They haven't given me any warning signs yet. Not sure why the other had such a hard time, he was always so energetic.

  5. I think I made a BIG mistake and might have just killed my fish.

I'm fairly certain its the difference in pH that he's sensitive to. Well, I just added him to a tank fresh with LOWER pH water. He's really not doing well. This is what happens when you wake up in a panic and try to do good before you've had any coffee. I really messed up and feel pretty badly. He's leaning on one side now and barely hanging on. I'm not sure what to do, he seems to be really wanting to hang on. He's producing slime like no tomorrow and the water already smells.

I can either euthanize or treat. I'm leaning towards the former. I added 1/4 tsp per 10 gal of epsom to the tank for comfort.

  6. I feel awful, like maybe I'm some ignorant goldfish-torturer but this is happening again. This time to my Yuan Bao.

He has never quite been 100% "normal" after I moved. I moved them on November 29th. There was a slight change in pH to where I live now. You can check out my post history for more information. Generally he's been acting listless and lost and not the energetic and funny Yuan Bao he was before I moved.

I have isolated him today in a 20 gallon tank with new water, and included a sponge filter from my main tank. He is currently swelled up with slightly raised scales, bottom sitting, and not eating.

  7. Ohh okay. So you probably are outside a lot I imagine. Do you have to pick up a job during winter?

Thank you! We have an apartment we want (our friends are moving in spring) we just haven’t been able to quote solidify it yet!

Yes, I’m outside quite a bit from spring until fall. Not much happening in the winter, unfortunately.

Species at risk - fish?  Is your work on either side of the coast?

Predominantly birds and reptiles. In central-ish Canada [emoji4]

  8. I work as a biologist with species at risk. Happens every winter, unfortunately.

Good luck with your move - excited for you to get back into the goldfish hobby! It’s so fun getting prepped.

  9. Ph rising up isn't much of an issue to ph going down. So I wouldn't worry much about that.....but in your issue on how low the tap is....you will need to do smaller and more frequent water changes. The reason is if you do a big one say more that 50%, you will be adjusting the ph to far down at first till it goes up on its own.
Also just by seeing them. They are chewing a lot. If it was me I would do a Prazi round on them or salt.

Good eye on the chewing... they just got fed! [emoji4]

And thanks for the info... yeah, the low tap was a bit of a shocker, honestly. I’ll do smaller wc’s from now on.

  10. Yikes! Pregnancies, fainting, ponds freezing over... I hope everyone is doing ok through all of this!

I completed my move last weekend, and boy, was it a doozy. The day after, I was completely immobile. This is the consequence of inheriting old, HEAVY furniture... and a 75g aquarium. And moving into second-floor apartments in old buildings.... For some reason I have a tendency to move in the winter time.

At least my new place has a big, deep bath tub so the soaking was much needed.

Now that I’m unpacked and settled, just gearing up for Christmas time now. Little stressed about it since I had my seasonal lay-off two weeks ago. [emoji31]Nothing else has lined up yet and I’m still trying to catch my breath.
