  1. calico- *gasp and points with left pectoral* LOOK!, white-y*looks with extreme disapproval*....I know... Always love the shocked and grumpy looks goldfish can get in photos.
  2. Yay So happy everyone made it across the country with flying colors <-- Ha... bad joke. Thank you so much for giving these guys a loving home. You and your sister are awesome! from the look of the video's first 1/3 or so you really taped the [censor] out of that box! Aquaponics are always fun! Get to have healthy pesticide free veggies/herbs (even fruits if you have the room to grow them.. or grow your own flower garden) year round. I kinda let my lettuce grow outta control (its shot past the light so above light is very leggy, at light is burnt (oops). Ferts are a big help, I'd not get the stuff I have though, its a bit expensive and watered down (found out after I'd bought a lot of it >.< ). Depending on how big your aquaponic system is you may look at buying ferts made for aqua/hydro-ponics as they're designed for the larger water volumes. You can google "plant deficiency" and look at the many many images that help show what deficiency causes what look of a leaf (I keep having magnesium deficiency because I don't want to over dose magnesium and cause a calcium deficiency which will effect my mystery snail poorly (caused chipped/damaged shell with time).
  3. She passed sometimes last night, slight green hue on a few parts of her body after death, not sure if this helps hint towards what was wrong? Hubby and i could not brig ourselves to do an autopsy. Bleach cleaning qt tank, its equipment, and water change stuff.
  4. Sadly it seems I cursed her by saying she as doing well.. but she WAS doing fine...Ate at 4pm feeding time, last time I saw poop dangling from her (yesterday) it was brown... well walk by the tank around 7:40pm and can't find Chocolate. Dug around in the water sprite and finally found her stuffed in the plants, unmoving, tail shredded. I thought she was dead but when I pulled her out of the water about 2 seconds she weakly gulped. Sprinkles and very berry are still fine but Chocolate is on the brink of death. Whats odd is she still has her color (use to fish going pale when dieing/very sick-i notice in photo she's started getting mroe yellow but in tank she was still black/bronze). I pulled the plants from the qt tank and put in water from the main tank, dosed prime to bind ammonia, stuck in an air stone and heater and moved chocolate over. She floats on her side when left be, only gulps when out of the water for several seconds, otherwise no noticeable movement. Her tail is wrecked.. unsure if she got stuck behind a rock or if Sprinkles harassed her to death (she's not been beat up before though)? Noticed she started a yellow poop when put into qt tank. no clue what to make of this.. no pine coning, no bloating (just usual fat fishy-ness of a goldfish), she had an apatite and was active 4 hours ago... wtf do I do?! The pacimist in me says she's too far gone and I should just clove oil euthanize her, but she's the reason we got goldfish (hubby picked her out) so i want to give her a chance.. no clue what meds to dose if any? Main tank readings are same as before, though i did do a 15g water change today, but as stated above, otehr inhabitants are just fine.
  5. Its been several days now. Chocolate is doing well, thank you again for the help!
  6. Well update on the pump: i got a whisper 150, and apparently forgot to remove a whisper 100 from the cart so got that too. The 100 was very loud so I had it replaced, second is also loud but not as bad as the first. I put the 100 on the 40g breeder fancy goldfish tank, the 150 will be on the 2 75gs.
  7. good point don't want them trying to u-turn and get jammed, hmmm
  8. So I've read Shubunkin can get up to 12" long, but I'm curious how wide they get? Specifically the circumference of an adult Bristol shubunkin. I'm planning a water bridge to connect 2 tanks and don't want to make the pipe too narrow for adults to get through. I was thinking 6" diameter pvc but if the fish stay narrow enough I may get 4" instead to save some $.
  9. Chocolate is back in the main tank and very happy to be with Sprinkles again! Thank you again for the help! photo of the area that had problems, taken just before shifting Chocolate over. Is just a pale area now (scales need to grow back) no bump or bruise left.
  10. I would LOVE that! I manged to get 2 75gs at petco at a dollar per a gallon last week (they aren't suppose to carry 75gs but the store accidentally got some, so lucky me!) however they were Aqueon tanks not ZooMed. I've no seen a ZooMed aquariums (have seen vivs and terrariums) at petco. But mine is not a jumbo store, a big store in a major city could have them? I'm just hoping in a year or 2 the price will drop to something more reasonable (or someone will sell a used one on ebay/cregslist that is close by).
  11. Omg so want that tank!! but not at that price x.x (too frugal) Wish I could find a glass cutting place close that woudl return my calls with a quote!
  12. So observation only, no more swab treatments? thank you again for he advice!
  13. I let the 10g qt heater run over night to make extra sure the heater was functioning fine. It is so Chocolate went in Aug 5th in the am, did a swab treatment then and again before bed. Its been 2 days not ans the area in question looks a lot better! No other symptoms of issues She can appear sulky sometimes being along in basically mental word white room for a qt, but perks up when anyone comes by the tank and bolts forward for food, poop still normal color.
  14. I'm just glad he and his kids enjoy them and said "don't care what others think, keep fish you enjoy". Wish I could get my hands on that big of a tank but i already have 2 new large tanks to work on, don't need any more!
  15. I just went with what I know, tetra whisper pumps.. hope I don't regret it ^^ also bought 2x aquatop heaters.. forgot to buy a temp controller doh >.<
  16. I don't have a dragon eye, that's Butterfly's ^^
  17. Sorry s/he's got hurt, but had to say I love the fish's name!
  18. There are a lot of horribly uneducated petstore employees , I've herd some very absurd things over the years (including that bettas are from the Arctic, and giving them a heater will kill them!.. They're actually a tropical fish originating from Asia that prefer 76-82F temps) don't trust anything petstore workers say, research on the web for more accurate info, but don't trust petstores sites for care info as they can be just as bad as the employees. There are people who do 90% water changes daily! (many discus owners). If you don't have one already, you should get a liquid/dropper based test kit test ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate BEFORE a water change and see what your levels are. You want 0ppm ammonia and nitrite with a cycled tank. If still cycling (anything other than 0ppm for these tests show up) use Seachem Prime to bind ammonia and nitrite so it doesn't hurt fish, but beneficial bacteria and plants can still consume it fine-note prime does not bind nitrates, keep up on water changes during cycle. And nitrates below 20ppm ideal, 40ppm being the max from what I've read. I have 2 fancies in a 40g breeder with an insane amount of water sprite (aquatic plant) and lettuce, spinach, and cucumbers growing aquaponically (roots in water) so my nitrates are at 5-10ppm and I typically do 2 water changes a week 10gs each. If I had no plants I'd have to do a LOT more water changes to keep nitrates down where they are now.
  19. I've never swabbed fish wounds before, so is there any specifics like "keep the wound at the surface for __ seconds after swabbing (to let it do its thing before its diluted by the tank water) then release fish"? Just want to make sure I do it right ^^'' I set up my qt tank and am letting it run until fish dinner time. 1of my 2 heaters I had in storage gave me trouble before, but I forget which so testing it before moving goldfish in. Did a 15g water change on the 40g. I tossed in some foam media from the 40g on the HOB, and set up an air stone.
  20. Thank you for the quick reply! I have both medications available, how often should I swab the wound? 1x a day until bump goes away? Sadly I only have a 10g qt right now but I'll prep it and move her over (will be mindful to do large water changes daily and dose prime to bind ammonia).

No meds or treatments have been done to this tank/these fish. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? List all physical symptoms. Red sour and white wound or tumor(?) with slightly raised bump. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? List all behavioral symptoms. Nothing unusual/different from normal behavior. 2 days ago I noticed the oranda had a white mark on its side near the tail, scales were gone and I assumed she scraped them off against one of the large river rocks perhaps being pushed into it by the ryukin mix, or from trying to squeeze somewhere she should not have been. I decided to increase water change frequency to help it heal by doing water change every day, 10gs. (usually only do 2 water changes a week 10gs each-plants take care of nitrates). Poop is healthy brown color, forages/eats and swims around just fine, no gasping, lethargy, or swim issues of any sort. Today I noticed the white area has a raised bump like a pimple and there is now a small red sore next to the white area too. These are the only sighs of anything being wrong. Photos of the wound (sorry for quality) edit: 1 more photo I wanted to know if this is just a bruise of some sort or something much worse like a tumor or cysts? Going to go do a water change now.
  22. I've always bought tetra whisper air pumps which label what tank sizes they're good for, so I'm not sure what psi/gph I should look for in a commercial grade pump to know how much 'umph' I'm getting. Any info on that would be most helpful!
  23. Oh I don't think I could afford 5-6 shubunkins from dandyoranda, the price range is a bit too steep for me. I've seen orandas auctions there for $100-150 each. I'm hoping to hear back from Mr.Hates in OH, his Bristols would be more in my price range ^^
