Wow looks awesome.  Once my goldfish got to be a year old they pulled up my jungle val and wisteria.  Amazon Swords are still hanging tough though 5 years later, as well as all the anubias and java fern I attached to driftwood.  Always love to see a planted tank with goldfish.  Well done.

I think I lost some vals  (but from melt off when moved from 55g to 75g) but they don't pull them up.  My amazon swords are doing well.  My melon swords however were completely devoured.  Aponogeton crispus is doing great-nibbled on and algae covered but it keeps growing.  Also have some crypts (common wendtii brown/green)

Because the plants weren't growing the way I wanted I decided to get a 3rd goldfish-a calio fantail (my favorite) ideally female.  A very kind member did offer me a few of theirs to pick from, unfortunately the ones closer to coloration I wanted were male-their female was lovely but not enough orange for what I was looking for -looks almost like a dalmatian!

I decided to go to a far away petstore.. kinda father than I prefer to go over the weekend with my husband and was lucky enough to find 3 calico fantails.. unfortunately 2 were in a tank be treated for tank lice, the young woman that cares for goldfish/koi showed me a lice on one fish man they're huge!  These 2 had a lot of black spots-mostly black with orange and tiny bit of white.  Didn't want to deal with lice even in a qt but fortunately the 3rd first, actually the first we saw was what I wanted, and my husband believes its the same calico we saw last summer at this store.  Soo ramble ramble we bought it the non lice infected goldfish.  Still debating on names.. if I stick to the food theme all I got is "Quinoa" (since we use a mutli colored variety).. anyways here's some crapy photso (she was NOT happy about the small container for sizing)

Remember this goldie?  S/he is now at 55ish grams and lost 99% of their black.

Sadly I'd lost everyone else.. but got a new roommate for them. We named the new one Pepper. First days home getting weighed and our newest/youngest pup came to check the oranda out, Pepper was just as curious.

After qt I had to bug bomb the room the 75g is in so unplugged air pump and taped up the tank so nothing got in and moved the fantail to a separate temp tank for a few days.  They both were acclimated and put back into the tank at the same time (different buckets).  They're getting along great and eat constantly!   I'm tossing in baby spinach (and sometimes other salad greens) 4-6 times a day + small portions of soilent green 2 times a day!  Ps peper is a photo bomber!

Tank is doing well, plants get nibbled but not destroyed.. have bba (black beard algae) but I think increasing water changes will help with that.

  3. As you can see from the photo below on a nearly 48" towel I have a [censor] ton of Ceratopteris thalictroides, more commonly known as water sprite. Asking $26 shipped.

I've kept this stuff in goldfish tanks before-this batch is from a fish-less/snail-less tank.  Goldfish are fine with the plant jsut give them some blanched leafy greens or repashy soilent green to eat.  Water sprite grows fast-this is more than 4x what I had in the tank 3 months ago!  Great for absorbing nitrates from your poop monsters.
    Payment Via PayPal.
    Shipping in Continental US only.
Will be shipping in a medium priority box, I ship Mondays through Thursdays.

Disclaimer: they did come from a tank with duckweed.  Iv'e washed it out as best I can.  But that's why I am only asking ~$12+ shipping cost for so much.
Have in a tank with a clamp light for now, would like to get these sold by Monday 22/10/18.  Or I may dump them or use in other tanks.

  4. RAOKing off some salvinia minima, harvesting from several tanks.  Just pay $8 for usps small flat rate box via PayPal.  PM me your paypal email and I will send an invoice for shipping cost

2 packages available currently.-if hey sell out just pm me, I'll contact you when i have grown more to see if you are still interested.

Salvinia minima is a great floating plant for aquariums, its easy to grow than frogbit and water lettuce-it does not mind being under a lid, doesn't burn from bright light, and doesn't rot from condensation drips, nor is it picky about air flow (like frogbit and water lettuce).  Its an undemanding grower, and helps diffuse light for those with planters tanks getting a bit too much light, and helps suck up excess nutrients/nitrates  bettas love making bubble nets in it, an enjoy the shade it gives.  If you ever want to be rid of it its much easier to remove completely than duckweed.

Its good for shrimp and fish fry-place to hide and find food on the roots!

I don't know if goldfish will eat this, I've not tried it in their tank.

  5. I bought some anubias barterie  (honestly I think it may be a hybrid as the leaves are wavy like anubias coffeefolia, or a young anubias broadleaf)  Was suppose to be a 12x12" ish portion plant but I got a TON.  Way more than I planned or have room for (trying not to set up more tanks!) so wanted to let someone else enjoy these big plants!  I can't find my measuring tape anywhere! (wtf did it go???!!) Placed anubais on background board for 20g long- 30" long 12" high Most are huge, few smallish one, and 2-3 just rhizome chunks that will grow into big plants with time.

    029.JPG030.JPG

Taken it all for $30 shipped (needs medium priority box which costs $13 last time I checked?  so $17 for plants +$13 for shipping).  Continental US shipping only.  Payment via Paypal.

    Add-ons:

I have a small anubais nana I separated from the main plant 5 leaves, this will stay small leaf size compared to above anubias $1

    020.JPG

2 sandwitch bags of salvinina minima (floating plant) probably about 30x18" area coverage $1

    021.JPG

If you want just add-ons shipping is $7.50

  6. On a negative note I noticed my orandas have been gasping in the 40g breeder aquaponics.. did a water change yesterday (95%ish) still gasping today so did a ammonia and nitrite test.. ammonia is dark green!! Did 2x 95% water changes and filling up now, dosing extra prime to bind ammonia.  Not sure what happened, I'm guessing I forgot to add Prime in a past fill up and killed my beneficial bacteria >.<  Get to do more aggressive water changes for a while now and buy another 4L jug of Prime

No, that isn't a veiltale. See some pictures here.  A perfect veiltail, like the "Philadelphia Veiltail Goldfish" in the link has a tail that is all the same length.   Your gorgeous fish has a ribbontail like the ones here.

    Thank you for the info.

  7. took photos last week just forgot to upload. 40grams, 4" body, looong fins, veiltail?

also other 2 previously in qt are enjoying the planted 55g-stuck 2 aquaclear 70s on, kept the old sponge fitler and stuffed it over the intake of 1 of the HOB.  Mild plant nibbling and 2-3 uprooted, but nothing too serious

I bought Dimilin recently. On the bottle, it says 1 tsp. treats 500 gallons. I have a 20 gallon tank. I used 4 drops. I figured the size of my drops by dropping them into a tsp.. Well, it didn't get rid of the fish lice, which I have been battling for over 2 months. I put a couple of more drops in without cleaning the tank and it still didn't do anything. I just performed surgery for the 4th time and got a big one out and pieces of a couple others.I don't know if I got everything out. Thankfully, his wounds clot well. I put some Mercurichrome on them. They really ate a big divot out of him. I don't know if it will ever grow back or not.I don't know how much more (Dimilin) I could have put in, but that is what I heard too.....that you can use up to 10 times the recommended amount. I will be continuing use since I don't know if everything's gone (eggs, etc) and both of us don't want to go through that anymore.

    Yikes that stinks.

So far I've not seen any lice on my new goldie *knock on wood* but the small black flecks in their fins/scales make it hard to tell if that's body coloration or small lice >.<

  9. I have no will power =.= did some shuffling and put the 2 newer goldfish into the planted 55g with 2-3 nerites, gave away my sword tails and moved my angelfish to a 20g.

Went to the store I got the goldfish from to give the swordtails and came home with 1 of the 3 (thought there were only 2-they hide well!) calicos from the outside pond... this pond did have fish lice last month, manager/owner(?) did not think there were any left, I'd assume after a month if there was still some they'd be visible.  But new calico is in qt tank.  It went from a majority black with some orange and white to mostly orange in the tank (no light on qt).  Hoping once its back in a planted tank with light it will get dark again.

    Photos to come

Dilute the product (I assume a liquid product) to 1/20 of the current concentration -- one part product plus 19 parts water. Then one tablespoon of the diluted product treats 25 gallons.  So treat your QT with a "scant" tablespoon of diluted product.  Dimilin doesn't harm fish even at 10 times the normal dose.

    Thank you ^^

  11. I'm thinking of buying another goldfish (i have no self control) when I was at the store last month the ponds were being treated fro fish lice with potassium permanganate

I'm not sure if there will have been a relapse from hatching eggs.. so looked into lice treatments and dimilin seems like a good once but dosing is 1 tbs for 500gs! My quarantine tank is only 20g.

So has anyone used this medicine in "smaller" (under 100g) tanks? If so how much do you dose of the meds to how many gallons of water?

It may be a mute point.. might get tot eh store and the fish is gone, but thought I'd ask.

  12. Lovely art style!  I'd never be able to do traditional medium art-I like my 'undo' button with digital ^^

How much do you charge for commission? Charge by hour, complexity, or canvas size?

What size are those example works and what medium used (water color)?

Are you willing to ship finished commission (with or without framing?-client pays for)

Sorry for the bombardment of questions but I like your style and am seriously considering commissioning you if I can dig up some good (in focus/unblurred) photos for referencing.

  13. New fantails are settling in well, going daily 100% water change-using cleaned milk jug to shake up aq salt and dissolve it.

Reeny the Pembroke Welsh Corgi finally noticed them today (their qt is on the floor).  She was curious but hesitant to check them out.  Better than trying to get in the tank and catch them right?

    006.JPG003.JPG

Did mention we have another puppy now too?  His name is Steiner (translated to English:stone warrior), a Swedish Vallhund-look 'em up.  Their similar to conies-same short leg long body herding breed.  One breed was used to create the other-the origin breed is still debated though.  He's 5 months now (Reeny is 1.5 eyars old).  Interesting have watched both grow-Reeny kept short legged as a pup and grew proportionately.  Steiner is all legs and slowly getting length-he's almost as tall as Reeny already.

Gorgeous Fish.  I have a white one with yellow, like yours

    Thank you ^^

Don't tell the other goldies but I like the white one the most

Side note I think I have a magnesium deficiency in my aquaponics.. you can use epsom salt but sites tat give amounts say 1 tablespoon for 1000 gallons... clearly no where near that amount of water so I have to add just a few granuals .. if you add too much it drops calcium and that will mess with plants and my nerite snail.

  15.

Kinda not into updating as much since photobucket decided to be a royal [censor] with the $399 a year charge to use its uploads on forums/eBay/etc...can't edit old posts to update with photos uploaded else where so kinda just threw hands up in the air, said "[censor] it" and stopped.. but I'll give an update since I can attach images here... side question: how do I delete unwanted attachments (sold items from for sale section)?

Anyways update time.. Tangerine and Ginger the female orandas are still in the 40g breeder, still have aquaponics above to help with nitrates.  Had to rip out the old lettuce because a heat spell made it shoot up blooms which makes the leaves bitter.  Tried planting kale and mustard greens for my husband along with new lettuce seeds.. but the first 2 are stunted while the lettuce hogs all the nutrients.. may also be a nutrient deficiency going on-need to look into that.  Fished them out for some photos and a weigh in

Tangeirn 36 grams, about 3" body

orderd skyblue reeived 069.JPGorderd skyblue reeived 073.JPG

In the same pond that goldfish was there was also a white fantail.. i don't know proper coloration term-very metallic/shiny body scales but yellow tinted head/fins.  I didn't pay it much mind but the first night the calico was home all I could think about was the white one.. and how awesome it would be to have one of 'each color" + a tri color that had all 3 colors.. like a set!  So the next day my hubby humored me and came along for the long trip to go grab the other fantail.. not 100% on name yet.. lazy idea "Frosting" but may try something better?  The calico was very happy to have a familiar face in qt with them.  Btw she was having nothing to do with being caught-took a good 4 minutes and had to get her our from under a rock at the upper edge of the pond before she was caught...Looks more pink from above from crappy lack of lighting.

Unnamed 32 grams and 3.5" ish? so technical.. neither new fish would keep straight for more accurate measuring

    012.JPG006.JPG

SO I had to go grab a new larger qt tank since I have more fish than I intended (curse you lack of self control!!), have a heater and 2 air stones running from the same pump as the 40g breeder, and dosed with Prime to bind ammonia.  Doing minimum 4 week qt following this forums qt guidlines pinned thread.

Those that read about my last water bridge attempt not going so well.. I used silicone on pvc.. need to use pvc glue or rubber rings (can't find big enough here)  on pvc-silicone is for glass... fingers crossed teh glass bridge doesn't spring an air leak.

Once the 75gs are freed up after harvesting talapia I'll move these guys into a 75g and decided if I want to do aquatic plants, aquaponics, or riparium setup.

  16. Went to a petstore a bit father away than I usually like to go (only been there 3 times), found the perfect female calico (she's acclimating for a q tank right now) so I won't be buying/looking any more fish for a while until the tilapia are harvested and i can take back the 75gs for goldfish... then I'll be on the hunt again.. but for now I found what I want ^^

  17. been talking with  mjfromga in notes, they have some lovely fish but I am going tot take time to mull 'em over for the weekend.

I like one of their larger boys look but my 2 orandas are females so I'm not sure I want to have the chasing issue.. its only a 40g breeder, bare except for 2 small slate stones used to hold down air blubber.  I'm growing leafy greens aquaponic-ly above the tank but right now the lettuce is hogging all the nutrients so the mustard greens, kale, and spinach are not growing.. hoping adding 1 more fish will help fix that...

Try Walmart.  The one here gets beautiful little calico fantails regularly.  If you get them when they first come into the store they are healthy too.

The Walmarts by me no longer have a live fish section, but thank you for the suggestion.
