  1. So... is it 1gram per liter? .. I couldnt find a disinfecting dosage on your link (But perhaps im wrong, im reading it on the phone)
  2. I hope is not a dumb question.. I bought this 5lb bucket "PROLINE professional grade potassium permangranate" from a closing store and I thought of giving it a try to desinfect my QT stuff instead of using bleach.. It is supposed to be "the good" stuff but I just don't know how to use it Any suggestions ???
  3. Everything is correct!!.. However.. If you vote for little Stewie.. EVEN BETTER!!
  4. Thanks!.. I read this by the way.. So im gonna give it a try "LED lighting is also an eco friendly way to introduce light when growing plants indoors. The heat output is minimal and therefore the energy consumption is reduced too. Also, LED lighting is quiet and is safe for plants that are sensitive to excessive heat or the damaging effects of UV rays. By using LED lights to grow your plants, you’re also availing them of the benefit to thrive as well. This is because LED lights supply a higher percentage of light in the optimum areas of the light spectrum where chlorophyll absorption occurs. This means that LED lights supply plants with an enhanced opportunity to develop and grow. What blood is to humans, chlorophyll is to plants. As a result, chlorophyll is necessary for a plant’s metabolic functioning. Therefore, chlorophyll harnesses light to produce photosynthesis which in turn impacts a plant’s capacity to grow. LED lights increase this effect."
  5. I have done it with small goldfish and also DustinsFishTanks has done it before. Hoped this helped What about filtration? I might be wrong.. I wanted to do something similar in a covered area but the ("expert") guy from the LFS tells me that canister's motors are made for indoor use only I was gonna do a small above ground pond/aquarium and use a couple of FX5's or FX6's but the guys says that the motors will die within a year Anyone has aquarium canisters (not pond filters) outside ?? Do you have those filters already, or were you planning to buy some? It would be cheaper (assuming you're planning on buying) to make some pond filters instead. VERY much cheaper. I have one FX5 that I don't use but now I see what Sharon says about aquarium canister vs a bucket filter.. I guess we all are better off with a bucket "homemade pond filter"
  6. Sorry for being so dense - so this is like a sump that you keep under your tank to just let algae grow in? I might try this! And I'm sorry for your loss, that was a beautiful fish. No prob.. & thank you.. I have this bad boy inside my small sump.. Mine is a fusion of "Santa Monica Filtration scrubber & Joey's from YouTube scrubber" It's very simple to make but I can probably do a "step by step" thread of how to make it if you have a hard time..
  7. I already have (red LED) light for the scrubber.. it needs a lower kelvin light to grow faster But I also have (white) LED light installed inside the cabinet/stand, which is "ON" 24/7.. I wonder if LED will be sufficient for an Ivy to grow ???
  8. Do you know if a regular IVY plant will do ok inside of the return part of my sump (without UV light)..? I've been wanting to add an ivy but im not sure if it will be ok under the stand/cabinet without light.. (I don't want it on the actual tank)

  10. Baking soda doesn't work for me. I don't know if it has something to do with my hard water (KH & GH above 200 ppm) but when I add baking soda it actually drops the PH so "not good".. and it is impossible to de-gas 125 gallon of water overnight with airstone in my dinning room, ha! My tap is 7.4 but after de-gas reaches 8.4 so I can only do max 50% WC to avoid a huge PH difference One of the mods was the one that recommend me to do 40-50% WC to avoid PH drops.. so, I du no I have an algae scrubber that is working good.. I made it to reduce nitrates and being able to overstock but I've been removing all algae weekly so I might leave it there for an extra week to see if my nitrates drop If you have any other suggestions/tips.. let me know!
  11. Thank you both!.. The calico was the first LFS GF I bought seven months ago.. he survived all of my mess ups I will keep the chubs in QT a couple of more weeks and observe the main tank's behavior Ill update next week Thanks again!
  12. I have two ranchus in QT that im planning to move to the main tank on Saturday I've been adding some of the main tank's water (daily) to the QT tank to help with acclimatization Everything looks normal in the QT tank.. chus are super active and eating their food just fine However.. This morning when I turned on the light to feed the main tank I noticed that my calico oranda was (dead) stuck to the intake of the FX6 At the beginning I thought he was just stuck between the wall & intake because the mouth was fully open (heavy breathing, I thought).. but no.. he was dead. _______________________________________________ I couldn't (and cannot) find any logical explanation.. He ate perfectly fine last night and was active when I turned off the lights. Even though I've been adding (main tank) water to the QT.. Im still a little scared about adding the chus this coming Saturday Any suggestions or advise??? 13. That crown pearlscale is awsome!.. You should definitely enter in the weekly contest .. here: http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/122219-goldfish-of-the-week-entries/
  14. I guess I didn't say it but Paypal required all the fish to be returned to the seller for the refund to be honored, including the surviving one. It was really hard to send him back knowing that he was (most likely) gonna die in the box but when having 3 (already) dead fish and seeing this one with blood scales flaking off and more cysts on him I knew that I wasn't gonna be able to save him so I had no choice..
  15. Thanks.. I know.. Even when I read bad things about Tommy (after the purchase) I wasn't expecting to have 3 fish dying within a 24hr period.. that's not normal Such a beautiful fish dead from day one His fish are kept in outdoor ponds so they'll carry whatever mother nature brings If some of you couldn't see the (goldfish keepers) links because an account is needed.. just PLEASE do your research prior to purchase if you're planning to..
  16. Do you have an existing thread about your online (besides DO) GF experiences? I wonder why you said you won't go with any other online vendor "anymore" ..??
  17. That is weird.. overnight FedEx to Minnesota will not be $200.. not even if adding a big fee for packaging More like $60-80.. I don't know why are they charging that !?? Water Garden is near me.. 5 of my 7 juvies are from Shane (owner) He gets them from Golden Phoenix (which brings them from China) San Antonio has not market for quality goldfish so Water Gems has some decent stock (at times) But the fish you see in the website are not longer there..
  18. Im no one to answer your question.. I have no knowledge about KHV whatsoever however, I emailed, "r/koi jack" Chairman KCSD 2015 Koi Show with the same question, the same day my fish arrived. His exact answer was: "There's no reported issues with goldfish from his booth" At the same time a user (on goldfish keepers) named "blue belly" (for what I read, he's an expert) said that goldfish can carry the KHV disease and not be ill themselves That's all I can pitch in.. sorry
  19. My tap water is 7.4 but it gets to 8.4 after de-gas I got them last Wednesday so I did 25% WC on Friday, 100% WC on Sunday and 50% WC yesterday Now explain what you are doing to de-gas. Just aging or something more? Or is that what it goes to in the tank? What about your nitrogen parameters? Do you have KH and GH? Sorry to be a PITA with all the questions, but we do need to figure out why the fish are stressed by water change. Did Cynthia give you information on her water change schedule and technique? Goldfish are ultraconservatives. They don't like change in water conditions, tanks, tankmates, schedules, etc. No baking soda.. just aging overnight in a separated tub with an airstone.. Nitrites 0 Nitrates 5 (from tap) KH 300 GH between 25 & 75 Sorry.. im at work now and didnt have time earlier to answer
