  1. It's happening to one of mine too.. hopefully it's nothing serious (ammonia burn, etc).. Im gonna follow your topic to get some input from the experts.. Best of wishes!!
  2. Well, thank you.. I like the name.. but the bad thing is that I already have red & white ryukin named Daisy.. (what a coincidence, that's funny)
  3. Thank you!... Shahbazin.. I don't have any themes.. some of them my kids name them some other I named after I see some of their personality.. However.. I've seen some "cooool" names here at kokos so I just hope someone comes up with "that special one"..
  4. Every week I drive around town to see if I get lucky and find a good looking ranchu or a tele-butterfly.. But after several months of driving I just gave up.. .. My town has NO butterflies at all and just "a handful" of very low quality ranchus I've been "rescuing" goldfish from the local LFS's but I thought it was time for me to get a "healthy & w/ potential" fish.. I'm against spending hundred$ of dollars on a fish but I came to the conclusion that I'll never have what I really like if I don't dig into my pockets.. So.. here it is!!! A cute little juvenile from Jennifer Lynx (solid gold) first tryout.. They're not very good pics because he/she just arrived an hour ago and I don't want to stress him/her that much.. Ah!.. and if you guys can come up with a great name.. Let me know!!
  5. I honestly don't think this guy copied Joey.. He is from Singapore and had this 7ft tank custom made out of fiberglass & acrylic.. This tank has a clean "retail" look I admire Joey but I think he focus on making everything as cheap as possible..This guy went all in ($$)
  6. Well.. He's the smallest one so every day I have to "fish him" (w/net) & feed him individually so I don't know if "fishing him" 2-3 times a day can mess up with his plates.. Everyone else is faster so if I don't "net" him, he wouldn't get any food.. (I don't know any other way to feed him besides catching him w/ the net ) Here's another video.. Now I don't know if is the gill plate (bent out) or something else sticking out..
  7. It is bent out.. It was not like that last time I (carefully) saw him.. Here's a short video:
  8. I just did a water change and noticed something unusual in Rocky's gill plate He's the smallest fish I have (aprox 1.5" of body) so he gets pushed around by the others when feeding Is his gill plate something to worry about ??
  9. Yep!.. my tricolor ryukin started this.. now everyone is doing it.. I hope I don't have to lose him for "this behavior" to stop.. I started today with Jared's suggestion and with repashy gel they didn't spend as much time at surface.. Actually the ryukin (who started this behavior) spent only about 30min at first.. then minutes here & there throughout the day.. However.. (volume wise) the amount I gave them in gel wasn't as much as the amount I give them of pellets so I don't know if that can affect the behavior
  10. Well tanks!.. .. I will definitely try that.. Beginning tomorrow AM, I'll start recording their specific diet/behavior I thought about it a couple of weeks ago but I was concerned about the "mini" Lionhead pellet size.. I have a very small tele-butterfly and I don't know if it will be uncomfortable for his digestive system feeding a pellet "that size".. it is not as small as the Hikari red or the Omega1 but not too big either.. I'll try it anyway.. I just came from work and fed them a cube of bloodworms and some peas.. they're gulping.. I've thinking about what "Artic Mama" said and it (kinda) makes sense.. I mean.. if they're imitating the ryuking that originally started all this and somehow they (do) get "some kind of nutrient" floating at surface they're gonna continue doing it since their favorite activity is eating.. Thanks again.. I'll keep posting if something different happens
  11. Food is the same that always has been.. combo of Hikari red, Omega one & Hikari Lionhead I don't know if mixing three different brand (and size) of pellets in the same meal, makes it wrong.. (I don't see why) Actually on mid March I started with the Repashy gel but I believe repashy is one of the best foods out there.. Everything started with one of the ryunkins, then the ranchu, then everyone else.. I don't know if they're imitating or really finding "that" protein layer that floats on the surface But like you said.. I don't think is normal to spend 6hrs+ gulping on the surface I'm just scared that is something in the water I cannot trace or something already inside them.. (hopefully Im wrong)
  12. Thank you.. And you're right!.. they eat everything I give "as if it was a race".. everything is gone in less that 1.5 min (2min tops) I don't know if it's normal or if it's a juvenile "eating" behavior (trying to get as much as they can before someone else eats it all) Im going to reduce their feeding but Im trying to educate myself and I just can't explain why is "starvation" a solution for their "gulping habits".. I mean, I fed them 6hrs ago and I just saw the tank and there's a couple of fish motionless at the top gulping air.. I really hope there's nothing to worry about..
  13. Well, thanks!.. So spending a lot of time at surface throughout the day is nothing to worry about? Food used: In the morning I mix in a cup some Omega1, some Hikari Lionhead & some Hikari Extreme color (red bag) pellets.. Afternoon, repashy soilent gel.. Evening, Hikari bloodworms or peas (w/ brine shrimp three times a week) Im going to reduce the feeding to repashy gel in the morning & bloodworms w/ peas in the evening until cycled if you think that will help
  14. The gulping occur after feeding but what concerns me is that it has been over an hour since I fed them and three of them are still at surface A few weeks ago it was only one ryukin that did this throughout the day.. now it is three of them that stay for long periods of time throughout the day I've been adding prime sporadically between WC but not daily, I will add the prime as suggested until cycled I did use (liquid) Prazi Pro for flukes while QT.. 4-5 rounds, 4 days with, 2 days w/o ________________________________________________ I've recorded this video "of feeding".. I honestly don't know if Im overfeeding but as soon as they finish they go to surface and as I said above three of them stay long periods of time throughout the entire day...

  16. Even thought I don't think is a big deal it's really killing me not knowing why are they doing this.. or if they're hurting Im in the understanding that GF's gulp at surface when in need of oxygen, when they have flukes or (after feeding) looking for some protein layer that floats on the surface.. However, all of my goldies spend a lot of time (1hr+) at surface after feeding and some of them spend quite some time throughout the day.. I have a 125G tank with 7 juveniles. They have a 4' bubble wand so I know is not oxygen. Im in the process of finishing the cycle. I still have some ammonia & nitrites (<.50) so I do 40-50% WC twice a week. My ph is 8.3 - 8.5 This guys "passed" QT.. most of them showed "flukes" (yawning, spitting out) and a couple of them (even) dropsy while in QT If there's something I can do to find the source of this behavior please let me know..
  17. I'm glad to see the improvement.. You have done a great job!!
  18. These below.. (also) the surviving ranchu, the calico & the pompom are from the same LFS.. The fish below are (in my understanding) happy in their 125G I got the ryukin calico, chocolate pompom & the (surviving) ranchu at the same time.. being treated in same 10gal QT tank.. the little pompom died after the second round of prazi, the calico died (today) after 3 doses of antibiotics & several ones of prazi.. the (surviving) ranchu which I thought I lost on the first round of antibiotics (6 days ago) somehow came back to life He isn't doing great because spends a lot of time at surface, "like not being able to swim to the bottom" but at least he's alive & eating.. by the way.. I clean the QT tank with vinegar every time I bring new fish and every time I do a 100%WC
  19. The calico is gone.. She was laying on the side moving slowly but stopped breathing a few minutes after I wrote my last message (30min ago) Im breaking my head trying to understand this.. I mean, what am I doing wrong!? I know for a fact that this guys have been at the LFS for months w/o problems but now that I bring them home they die! I understand that sometimes they just have bad genes or hidden diseases but how do you explain that they were "ok" several months in China (from birth), then "ok" several weeks in California (golden phoenix fisheries) , then "ok" again several weeks here in Texas at LFS.. then they die in my hands Now I only have the small ranchu who's been eating some but stays most of the time at surface.. and when I throw some pellets it seems that he has difficulties to get to the bottom...
  20. Is there anything I can do to help this fellow??? He/she hasn't eat in 4-5 days.. this morning she/he looked "semi ok" but now is laying on the side with one side of the belly swollen They had yesterday the 3rd dose of Metro/Kana
  21. I started yesterday with the antibiotics (+ prazi) & decided to turn off the filter to avoid for the fish to do extra effort when swimming.. Im a little sad now because the little ranchu is just floating at surface, being push arround by the airstone's bubbles.. He/she doesn't move much.. I really think im gonna lose him/her soon.. if there's any additional treatment you think it might help to get him/her back to life please let me know so I can try it
  22. They were stuck to the intake this morning when I woke up.. the little ranchu had his mouth completely open (no yawning, open/closing motion) and that's exactly how I found the other fish dead Im doing a 100%WC right now.. should I start with kana/metro/prazi or should I wait a day or two and hope for improvements ???
