  1. Thank you for the information. Just be there yesterday and didn't notice if they have this activity or not. Will check tomorrow. [emoji4]
  2. Mine is about 7 month old and laid eggs the day before yesterday. The boys who chased her only 4-6 month. This red cup I named him Nietzsche, he's 6 month old.
  3. There are two reasons he chased her like that: 1. She is sick. It's goldfish's instinct to chase( attack) the ill fish. 2. The male fish is an aggressive type. I suggest you to separate them in two tanks or buy a divider if you only have one tank. Sometimes several day's separation can help stop the chasing habit.
  4. I have no problem with fasting them, but I'm not quite sure what the point of removing them from the main tank would be? Sorry the above was asked by Jared. Because the quote is too long I removed the other part, it became this way :-) Here is my answer: because the not yet finish cycling water is kind of dangerous to the newly change environment fish, if she moves them out, she also can go on cycling the water by adding whatever she needs to help cycling the water. I gave that suggestion was because she was not sure to move them out or leave them in the cycling tank.
  5. I still think they are better off with 3 times the volume of a 15 gallon tub. Ammonia is given off by their gills so as long as they are breathing, they will produce ammonia . . . . Thats the reason I suggested her stop feeding them 3days before she leaves, that way, the fish will not produce waste. Goldies can fast two more weeks without any harm. Of course if she can use a bigger box that'll be the best :-) I'm sorry, 10 is too small. Fish produce ammonia through their gills when they breathe. There will be waste. Assuming they are breathing . . . Theoretically you are right. Goldies do breath and even pee. But my friends and I tried that several times and proved very safe. Two fish, low temperature, fasting a week, it's really no problem. One thing maybe my fault was I took it for granted that her two fish were small because seems she said her husband bought them not long ago. Maybe they are big fish, then she needs bigger tank for sure.

  7. You can use the tap water with the conditioner. Your 40gal one still can go on cycling.
  8. What I suggest is to keep your two little fish in a 10 or 15 gallon plastic box (for housewares saving type),treat the water with the conditioner first of course, stop feeding them 3 days before you leave. There will be no or very seldom waste in the water to hurt them. Oh don't forget to put a air bubble into the water to make the water flow and give fish oxygen.
  9. Hi dear fantailfan(I remember your name is Liza,is that right?) can you please tell me when Americans say every 2 gallons for one inch of fish, is that including the tail? Thanks a lot! I would not follow that guideline, tail or no tale.not follow every 2 gal water for 1 inch of fish? No. It is not a sound guideline. Length does not account for depth or waste production. Yes. Now I understand more clearly. Thanks a lot.
  10. thank you so much for explain so clear, shakaho. That has been always something I can not agree with, but wherever I went(pet stores), people always told me like that. I was confused. Now I see :-)

  13. A Subby is a person who Subscribes to the forum. You get access to a few extra threads and you get to help out with the costs of running this fantastic site! It's a win win situation. Also, there is absolutely no need to apologize for not understanding foreign slang. It's amazing that you have taken the effort to learn a new language at all Thank you so much Mr.B! Both for your explanation of the meaning of Subby and the encouragement to learn a foreign language.
  14. If the vent is outy, wider and oval shaped, girl. If the vent inny, shin and diamond shaped, boy.
  15. What is a Subby? Forgive a person's fool because she comes from a non English speaking country :-) I'm now in USA and I love goldfish and, I hope I can be the lucky one also, haha!
  16. I have bio wheel inside the filter n some liquid bio. Is this the right answer? :-)
  17. Actually I have 3 tanks, 10gal, 20gal and 40gal ones. 20 gal one is for guppies and other two for goldies. They all use filter cartridges. Seems I need to change them into filter floss after I consume them all.
  18. Oops, the pic is not clear and complete, let take another pic of it. It's this guy. I made a mistake that it is a 70 gal one not 75:-)) As you see, I bought two packs of the cartridges.
  19. Thank you so much for explaining and showing the pics :-) It's really helpful to know these. Another question is, the cartilage or the floss also can do the same thing like you guys talked above, just washing them again and again but don't need to change them?
  20. Hi dear friends, when I read this article I'm a little bit confused. When you talk about the sponge, it means the filter cartridge? I have a 40 gal tank and use a 75 gal bio wheel filter. I change my filter cartridge every month. Sorry I'm new to America and my English (or life experience in this society)may not good/long enough to understand it. Thanks.
  21. Aww gorgeous fish indeed We should all share pictures of what our ''dream fishies'' look like...great idea!
