  1. I took a look at the CaribSea sand on the PetSmart and CaribSea websites. They look pretty good. The sand that I like the best is white and black mixed together but the bag says it is African Cichlid Mix substrate. Is it OK to use that kind with Goldfish or not? That wil alter your PH, so I wouldn't recommend it. Be sure to read on each kind of sand before deciding. For that look, Just buy two different colors of sand in smaller bags and mix them. Oh yeah great idea! Thanks I hope now I can find a black and white bags to mix myself in the right kind.
  2. FredTheGoldFish ~ Cool! I really like the bronze color Every time I got a bronze Goldfish in the past it always turned orange or orange with white. Wish they'd stay bronze, it is so pretty! Congrats on your new fish and I love the Name Treasure for him
  3. So cute! I never heard of a Butterfly Moor, only Black Moor Goldfish. Sounds super fancy! The little girl sounds EXACTLY like my 5 year old Niece LOL They'd make great friends

  5. Dang it is 2:00 AM in the morning! I just spent the last few hours reading this whole post. I do think I want to change to a sand bottom or maybe a bare bottom for my Goldfish tank. Right now it has gravel in it and I remember many years ago when I had goldfish, they would get rocks stuck in their mouths but luckily they could pop them back out. I like the black sand or black & white mixed sand. I even like the idea of using glass cups, bowls and pie plates with sand in it to hold the plants if I did a bare bottom tank. I am worried that my baby Goldfish could get a rock stuck in his mouth, especially if it were when we weren't home or if we weren't in the room where the tank is to save him. I have noticed in my 30 gallon tropical fish tank that the gravel is always so gunky even though I vacuum well every week. Could tropical fish have sand substrate too? I have Rosy Barbs, a Pleco, Golden Algae Eater, Otto catfish, Zebra Danios, and White Clouds etc. I know my Cory Catfish would do better in a sandy tank because of their sensitive barbels. Also could Bettas have a sandy bottom too? Right now however I want to start with the Goldfish's tank. I hate to take chances with my pets if I can help it, I want them all safe, healthy and happy! I used to gave a hollow plastic castle and cave in a 10 gallon and there was always dirty gunk under them. The fish would always get sick and die in that tank so I took it down and put away the cave and put the castle on top of my Hermit Crab's tank for decoration. I do really love that layered driftwood plastic decoration, I would love to have that though!
  6. I love to just sit there near the tank and watch them eat after I feed them or just watch them swim. I also take lots of pictures of my fish because that is fun for me
  7. I just got my Goldfish less than a week ago. He is 2 inches long including the tail and I can't wait to see how fast and how big he will get I like the idea of doing a blog with pictures of growth of fish over the weeks and months. I just may do that with my fish Dreamsicle
  8. I love Hermit Crabs! I have 19 Purple Pincer Hermit Crabs in 40 Gallon Breeder tanks LOL
  9. Ooooh your Hermit Crabs are sooo cute! They have great shells too.
  10. Thank you Amanda for the trick to make it dissolve!
  11. Yes that is a pin hole in his fin. I said that about the hole right above the picture, oops you probably missed it. By the way thank you for explaining things so I could understand things better
  12. I love the look of sand in an aquarium, but I never had it in any of my tanks before. Is it better than aquarium gravel when cleaning? Do you have to vacuum sand like you have to vacuum aquarium gravel?
  13. No not weird at all! I am excited to see it all set up, I am so curious;)
  14. Wow! I sure do like them a lot! What a great job Makes me want to try to draw a Goldfish now...Mine might look like a preschool drawing but it may be fun to try.
  15. I never heard of Prazi so I checked out the link you sent to me. Then I watched a Youtube video of an application of Prazi. She said it is hard to mix with water, plus you have to figure out how much to add to your tank. So if I have a 20 Gallon tank, how much do I add? Also I seen something called PraziPro sold on Dr's Foster and Smith online pet supply store. It is liquid in a bottle and it says to add 1 teaspoon per 20 gallons and you don't have to try to figure out how to measure it out or mix it. Could I use this product? Or is Prazi in the powdered form better? I read on a different site that you can add Prazi once with no water changes and that's it, and it says you may do another treatment in 4 or 5 days. (Those were for pond applications)So why do I have to do all those changes for 30 days in your time table? I am not trying to be sassy, or contradict your suggestions, I am just confused as to reading different ways to treat with prazi....Just never had to medicate my fish before. Thank you for your info! I appreciate it greatly
  16. My oldest goldfish was Hermie that I won at the county fair when I was like 8 or 9 years old. He lived for 5 years through 2 moves into new houses and we didn't know anything about fish back then, so I say that is pretty good!
  17. A long time ago I used to feed my fish fleas off of my cat before I used and flea killers of course.
