  1. Could you include video, please? Is this the main tank that everyone's in, or a standard new-fish Quarantine tank?

Also, I would like to note: I think that the 75 will be great for the goldfish. However, you're very cramped with the plecos in the 20 too. Is there a way you could move the plecos somewhere else until all of the fish can be housed in the 75? 20 gallons may be able to house a fish for a couple months at most, but 5 heavier waste-producers will necessitate daily huge WCs and may lead to the plecos becoming aggressive due to lack of space.

I can't get a video because he stops whenever I'm near the tank. The plecos are only an inch long and my water parameters show that they aren't an issue. I am not concerned about my stocking, I am concerned about the behavior from this new fish. This is the main tank as I don't have a QT nor room for one.

    • * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? I brought home a second fish and he is acting a little funny. He swims sideways and head-up frequently and this morning is surface gulping. He is a very compact bodied ryukin (he has the hump behind his head and everything) so I thought he may just be floaty but the surface gulping this morning makes me concerned. Castor is acting fine. I also need info on the amount of canning salt to dose for ich, please. I want to note, these fish will be moved to a 75 gallon within 5-6 months.

  2. I fell in love with a calico ryukin today... He is now in Castor's tank as well. I'm so used to doing 90% every 3 days from her cycle crash, I'll continue it now that he is here until they are large enough to move to the 75. That won't be long, Castor has tripled in size in the less than a month I've had her. He is a bit larger than her and named Fred by my husband, lol. I also picked up 3 - 1" albino bristlenose to grow a pair out in. I have other tanks to move them to should the create an issue with the goldies.

  3. The sand and 3 different sized gravels were only $14 all together! I have A TON leftover but it was way cheaper and much nicer looking than anything I would get at the pet store. As soon as I get a hood I'm going to get some fist-sized and slightly larger/smaller rocks as well and will plant it better. My goal is river-esque! I had to wing it living in Louisiana and google not having pictures of riverbeds! I'm growing her out in here and will be growing her out with 3 dojo loaches and some ghost shrimp. (:

  4. I just went from barebottom with marbles to sand and gravel! Boy has it been an EXHAUSTING day!!!!! She seems to really be enjoying it other than occasional bottom sitting but she just got put in the tank. She's bottom sitting now but I'm gonna give her some time to adjust. The plants are just there for the sake of seeing if I can grow them with the floor lamp providing the light. (:

  5. I like your paintings!

Generally I will sit out by my pond for a few minutes every morning and then again in the evening when I return from work. If I really want to enjoy them I will put on my swim shirts and get in. The fish swim all around my legs.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I wish I had a pond, but I live in a condo with only a small concrete patio. One day ...

This is what horse troughs are for! :thumb:

  6. I think we are finally realizing the current is gone. Although, her reaction to this is to find the current and swim against it. :doh11: Dear Castor, please, please, make mommies life simple! An infant and a young bunny are enough! You're a fish! You aren't supposed to be stressful!!

  7. I keep the water level as high as I can but it's always at least over the return. Should I add a water bottle baffle or put some filter floss in the intake basket?

I have noticed it looks like she's struggling a bit but I was worried about restricting her filter that already isn't big enough.

  8. We just can't afford a scale right now, even for such a low price. I'm actually trying to fund-raise for my rabbit's spay right now. We just got told we can no longer live here after being told we don't have to move so we are in a bad position and with a 3 month old, she comes before all else. I just did a water change so I'll start taking daily readings tomorrow afternoon.
