  1. as far as i can tell, the first picture is fake, looks like a hand drawing/painting to me. i've done a lot of graphic design including CD artworks, posters and banners. Firstly the fins look poor, like they've been simply drawn quickly with a pencil, secondly the light effects shown aren't very realistic, looks as though it's been painted. Plus the body looks smaller than it should be, and the colour isn't consistent enough throughout the body. sorry.
  2. how can they possibly say it's suitable for 2 goldfish without filtration though? i just don't understand where they get their reseach from.
  3. was in the Argos (catalogue store) earlier and thought i'd see if there were any tanks etc. well there were 3, one 10 gallon 'tropical' starter, one plastic 'hexafun' coldwater tank and a very basic, very small 'coldwater tank', it's basically a square bowl, about 12 litres. in the description it stated "this aquarium suitable for 2 goldfish without filtration only" WHAT KIND OF ADVICE IS THAT?!! ignorance WAS bliss.
  4. thanks a lot cupoftea, i'll keep an eye out for one
  5. well, this proves what we've been saying all along. never buy The Scum
  6. what's a python? can't find any on ebay.
  7. that sounds like a great idea! in the meantime i'll get some of those little clips, but i'm going to look into setting this "airline tidy" idea up.
  8. i keep going to, but everytime i do i see something else i need and get that instead.
  9. quality tank, and all the set up sounds amazing. but what is the point in snorkelling at home? i thought the idea of snorkelling was to see the fish/sea creatures in their natural habitat and see new sights, doing it at home is stupid, you already know what's in there, you put it there!! it's madness! madness i tell you! :monkey :carrot
  10. well done, makes sense to put them in one topic.
  11. yeh it's working for me now, such a lovely fish.
  12. thanks Daryl, i'll get a few of those. then i can enter for tank of the month, can't wait, i love how it looks!
  13. what's the best way to hide the airline to my bubble wall? i've just got the tank looking amazing, like i dreamed, apart from the airline running down the middle at the back, what can i do about this? i've seen the little clips with suckers on to keep it along the side, and i think they're probably the best option, but do they collect dirt and old food? thanks for any suggestions...
  14. or that the tests are somehow contaminated? have you tried using a different testing kit?
  15. i painstakingly use a 2 gallon fishbowl to fill my tanks with. i have 1 30 gallon tank, 1 10 gallon tank and a 6 gallon medi tank. imagine the time it takes me!
  16. ok tried it for the second time, still doesn't work, and messes my browser up afterwards too. have to restart my Firefox after clicking it otherwise no pages display properly.
  17. Thanks Emma, i'll add some salt as there are signs, red streaks, and white fungus.
  18. i'll try the razor blade thanks ranchugirl. and fishbert, those look fantastic! where can i get one of those? thanks for the replies
  19. i'm gonna have a go at cleaning it using a plastic scourer and the shower tonight, i'm setting it up in my living room at last, all my tanks are in my bedroom but my mum now wants one downstairs, can't wait to set it up!
  20. tank size is an 8 gallon tank (Hospital tank) Ph is 7.4 nitrite is 0.1 the fish is a 6" blue oranda Rena Filstar filter ok, the fish has a rip in his caudal fin, the left part. it started as a hole where he'd been fighting and it's now torn right thorough, there's bloody streaks in it and some white fungus on the edges. i've been treating with melafix but it hasn't helped at all, in fact it was just a roundish hole when i started treating and since then it as torn right through i haven't got a digital camera, so i drew some quick sketches in Paint as an example... before when it was just a hole now
  21. I had several commons as a child inbowls, they all died ater a week or2, i didn't know ny better. but my first serious goldfish was just over a year ago. it was my 19th birthday and me and my girlfriend were going through a bad time so we thought, lets get a pet. We went to the lfs and get 2 orandas (1 red cap and 1 red oranda) and a bowl with dechlorinator/gravel/food etc. the red cap was Crystal and the Red Oranda is Skipper, who is still alive to this day, my favourite fish. I'd never used dechlorinator etc. before and so i did a search on the internet and found Kokos site, where i learnt to get rid of the bowl etc. Went out the next day and bought a tank with an internal filter and tried to cycle it, during this process Crystal sadly died one night, Skipper lived on and has been my fish for over a year (26th February) he's now in my 30 gallon tank and is around 4-5" long, he was about 2" when i got him. thanks to Kokos he's made it this fay, if it weren't for this site i would probably have given up on fish a long time ago. now i have 5 tanks in my house and 1 in my girlfriends, my brother in law - who has had tropicals for years - has recently started taking my advice rather than just thinking that he knows more coz he's had fish longer, he got rid of his ugf and fitted an internal filter recently and has removed his hollow ornaments in favour of natural ones. Thanks Koko!
  22. i tried that and it seemed as though it would take about 4 years to get it all off!
  23. hi, another question... i have a 2' tank which has been painted on the back, it's just plain white paint and it's all split. (the paint is on the outside) i got it from a pet shop for ?5! i was wondering what the best way to remove the paint would be? are turps out of the question? i can't use a scraper coz it'll scratch the glass. an suggestions?
