  1. Yes, thanks! That fertilizer package looks like a good deal! I'll make sure to read about the EI Yes, I was planning on having root tabs in the dirt, and Anubias and java moss/fern would be tied to wood, rocks Yeah, I'm going to make sure I have everything sorted out and given the go-ahead by you guys before I buy all the stuff. I'm waiting until the next DPG sale to get the tank so I should have a good amount of time to get everything planned out. Since they are the same price and the Finnex offer more options for plants, I think I'll go with that one. Like I said, I like the RGBs and programmable options but to me they would end up being a novelty and the Planted Plus has 650nm red diodes anyways. Now I'm getting excited. Once I get the tank, I can get the rest of my supplies. Hopefully the next DPG isn't more than a few months away!
  2. I agree. I think the people that make the statements "slow growing" are really meaning to say "Slow growing for me" Maybe that's what I'll do. If I don't have to do pressurized CO2, and I can have a larger variety if plants due to the high PAR, I'll go with the Finnex Thanks Amanda.
  3. Yeah I don't want to either. I'm going for the "low tech" type if tank. So you think the Planted Plus will work fine with just Excel and low-med light plants?
  4. I hope so! Fingers crossed. Thanks for all your help, Lisa I read the thread, so hopefully if the same thing happens to me, I can take the same steps you did. Does the Greenleaf fertilizer contain all the macro nutrients, or are there several versions like with the Flourish? I'm worried about having too much light, but I also don't want too little light. If nobody here has the Satellite plus, I think I'll pick it up and do a review and see how my plants like it. And yes it is for my planned dirted tank. Does that change something?
  5. OMG your tank is beautiful. I hope someone can help with the algae problem
  6. I have the Marineland Double Bright too. I intentionally got this one instead of the Finnex because I didn't want too much light where I would need pressurized CO2, and the Finnex PAR data put me in a higher light range where CO2 likely would have been needed. I am using Excel, Flourish and Flourish root tabs and my plants are doing very well so far!Yeah, 61 is a lot. I was worried about that. Maybe now I'll look between the Satellite and the double bright. I like the Satellite because it has programmable RGB LEDs so I can red-tint it to help the plants.

  8. So to recap, my options are: -Double Bright/28PAR/$68 -Satellite Plus/36PAR/$80 (with programmable RGB LEDs) -Finnex Planted Plus/61PAR/$80 I definitely think the Double Bright is out of the picture. Now I just want to know whether 61PAR is TOO much, without CO2 other than Flourish Excel. I also like the satellite plus because of the cool night modes/ storm modes/ cloud modes, but I feel like I would use those less and less as time goes on. Like I said, I'm leaning towards the Finnex, but I'm worried it's too much light. It should be good for plants, though, because it has true 650nm red diodes.
  9. Awe that's too bad! How big is he now?
  10. Ok, so the Double Bright is 28, which is a little low for my liking. Since I will only be doing low/medium-low light plants, do you think I should go with the Current USA Satellite Plus, which has 36? Or is that not high enough? I want the balance between being able to have a nice variety of plants without dosing CO2. Do you think if I got the Finnex (62) and dosed Flourish and Excel for CO2 I would be ok? I'd love to hear your opinion
  11. This par chart is for the fuge ray and not for the planted plus. Last I heard, finnex had not published par ratings for the planted plus. Although you can get unofficial par ratings online. Ah! Yes! Thank you! I just found a forum, on which an employee of Finnex works. He says "FugeRAY Planted+ will still have the controllable moonlights. Sample is still in Taiwan with my associate and spectrum chart is on the way. Quick PAR reading below 24 inch fixture 3": 185 6": 117 9": 88 12": 61 15": 45" Seems pretty good to me.. I've decide to use a 20 gallon long, which is only 12 inches tall. That means I'll get 61 PAR, hopefully. He doesn't mention whether this was measured in water or air...
  12. Thanks Lisa! I really like both of them. I think I like the look of the Finnex a bit more, but the Marineland is a tiny but cheaper. I plan on only doing low light plants like anacharis, anubias, Java fern, java moss, swords, crypts, etc. I've looked at the PAR and Finnex is 36 compared to Marineland's 28, but the Finnex is measured in air I believe. Ugh I wish these measurements were more standardized.
  13. I don't know if you've heard of them, but I just saw the Current USA Satellite Plus for around $80, too. It has a White LEDs and RGB LEDs, which are fully user controllable. I think that may be a good option, because I can set it to be more red for the plants. PAR for that is 36 at 12 inches. Pretty good, right?
  14. No one wants to help me I just found the Current USA Satellite and it looks like a good option, too.
  15. Not sure what the X-axis represents.
  16. I said I was going to do a 10 gallon, but since the filter I have is a Tetra 40, I think I'll pick up a 20 and set the filter to 75% (you can adjust it). Sorry I'm having so many changes of plans. It's so hard to decide! I'm sure you know. I found this.
  17. The other is the Finnex Fugeray Planted +, which I can't seem to find the PAR for either. I'll keep digging. I was looking into T5, but Dan said it was overkill without CO2.
  18. I couldn't... BUT, I think I'm going to upgrade anyway, and one of my options (I actually just started a thread a little while ago. I'd love for you to see it!) is the Marineland Double Bright 24, which offers ~28 micromols per square meter per second.... Is that what you are looking for?
  19. I am looking for a new LED strip for my upcoming, planted 20G tropical tank. Should I go with the Marineland Double Bright or the Finnex Planted+? The Planted+ is a little more expensive, $68 vs $80. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Which would be better for a planted tank? Or, if you have any other recommendations, I am completely open to them I don't think the Aqueon fixtures are bright enough, but I may be wrong. All the plants I want are low light. Thanks!
  20. Right?! That's exactly how I feel! There are people who try to get like 80% of their money back after their stuff has been used. It's ridiculous. I find the only time people offer good deals are when they NEED to get rid of them. That's when I try to grab them, because they need to sell it. And then there are the people that try to buy tanks at PetCo during the dollar per gallon sale and mark them up. When I sell stuff, I try to mark it down off of what I bought it by at least 50%, unless I bought it used.
  21. I know! The lady at the local hardware store and I had a good laugh about it. I'm glad you didn't have to but a whole new fixture!
