  2. here is a video, can you see the white "growing" out of his left gills??
  3. I have a 40 gallon tank with 3 ranchus. One is nearly the size of an iphone (a ECR lemonhead), the other two are quite small. When I tested the water last week it was perfect! I did a water change 2 days ago, and the fish were doing fine. Right now the water levels are checking out perfectly. Today while I was at school, my girlfriend called me freaking out about the fish.. The 2 smaller ranchus (maybe 1"-1.5" nose to tail tip) are bottom sitting, then frantically trying to get up - kind of swimming in a circle, maybe even swimming for a few minutes looking totally fine, then bottom sitting again. Quinoa, the white one, is the smallest and seems to be eating OK; Rutabaga, a black and orange goldfish with a few metallic scales thrown in, is doing horribly. He is pretty much only bottom sitting now. She moved my large lemonhead (who seems to be doing swimmingly) into another 40 gallon tank that we have running (with similar sized goldfish). I wouldn't have necessarily done that, but it's done now. I'm trying to upload a video for you to see.

  5. This is Catbug, a la ECR. I bought her in August and she has grown quite a bit! I absolutely adore her. These are the pictures I got from ECR and I really need to show you guys updated pictures! Seriously, she's bigger now! My favorite fish.
  6. If it's NOT cycled, what should I do now? Should I keep doing 50% or 80% or 100% changes everyday until it cycles. All we can do is damage control now. I would love your advice ShawneeRiver.
  7. I'll try some seachem prime if I can buy it today. We've used (routine) Prazi recently.
  8. Nick, There is very little indication that these compounds actually work. Secondly, when the nitrites is that high, one must do a 100% WC to get rid of ALL the nitrites. As little as 0.1 ppm is enough to be damaging. Thanks ____________ OP, Please follow the suggestion with the salt to keep your fish safe, and follow FF1's suggestions for when to do WCs. We have been salting our tank since we noticed this and doing 50% in the morning, and 50-80% in the evening changes. Do you think we need to do the 100% all at once, or is it okay to spread it out like this? I will do a 100% change today.
  9. We have been doing 50%-80% WCs everyday after testing the tap, and the tap is fine. I still don't know why my nitrites are doing this.
  10. We tested the tap, and the tap is fine.
  11. Nitrite: 2 to 5 pH: 8.5 Nitrate: 0 Ammonia: 0-2.5 I recently noticed my goldfish was a little red inside his mouth. I have had an established/cycled tank. I immediately did an 80% water change. The next day (today), I tested my water using API's Master Test Kit and the nitrite level was way higher than usual! The ammonia is barely noticeable above the 0 on my chart. There are 2 goldfish, a nerite snail, and 6 small plants (with 2 root tabs), in this 36 gallon tank. What do you think? Should I simply do 50% water changes daily until it corrects and see next week?
  12. I am struggling to figure this out using the internet alone. I have ordered some goldfish books now, and I love genetics, so hopefully we can sort this out! I was doing a water change and found 9 fry. So, if I have a black moor (mother) and a calico ryukin (father), are there any substantial chances of getting a calico telescope? We would love one. Either way, the babies are well taken care of and loved. I'd love a basics on goldfish color genetics. Thank you!
