  1. Ok - I will test the taps. So is the snail safe to return after treatment as well? Or should I be rehoming them both? Could he carry ich back in? How can I add a pic from mobile??
  2. I am pretty sure the catfish brought the ich - so I am scared to add him to my smaller tank of tetras. I don't have another place for him today (middle of a snowstorm here in MN) - but tempted to return him to the store in a few days if I can. Any ideas?
  3. On mobile and getting used to nav this board mobile - was looking for that list -- thanks! Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) 10ppm (before last WC) * Ammonia Level(Tap) haven't tested recently - has never been a problem * Nitrite Level(Tap) * Nitrate level(Tap) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) also haven't tested recently but I have the drops to test if necessary * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 69F * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 30g - a few years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Two Fluval AquaClear 50 * How often do you change the water and how much? 1-2x a week ... 50-70% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Sunday * How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 fancy - tail to mouth about 7" - mystery snail - teeny little pleco (I think?) * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Only Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Saki-hikari fancy pellets once a day, replashy soiling green few times a week * Any new fish added to the tank? The pleco * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. None * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Grains of salt in fins and today his body * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? More bottom sitting - but also swimming I do not have a heater -- but I have aquarium salt on hand. Will it kill the pleco? I will try to get a cell pic of him. Believe me - I would have never added a fish - husband added the pleco because of some brown algae and he did not keep him quarantined first (I usually do all fish care - but was hospitalized). But now what to do with it?!?
  4. It's been awhile since I was here... Had a new baby last month, he was in the NICU for a few weeks and I was very ill/hospitalized as well... our beloved calico ryunkin fancy has been thriving in my husband's care while I was "away." Then - my husband added an adorable glass sucking catfish. I admit - the guy is cute --- but a week after he joined - Francisco (goldfish) got ich -- just noticed it on his huge, gorgeous tail fin yesterday. I've been reading non-stop about ich treatment but I'm now so confused as to what I can do. I want to treat the catfish too since he must be the carrier (have had Francisco for a few years - he has never been sick), and obviously the tank, and we also have a mystery snail (which I don't really like, but don't want to kill). Pretty sure the salt method would kill Francisco's cleaning crew, right?? What to do?
  5. I fed him three soaked Pro-Gold and he ate them all in about 1/2 second. He has been frantically searching his tank for any bits and pieces left behind ever since. Boy! He sure does not give up easy!! No less than 5 minutes after I fed him the Pro-Gold did the package from TastyWorms come! Figures! So not I have the Saki-Hikari pellets and the Repashy. I used to feed him 3-4 tiny meals a day. Morning and evening pellets and then veggies for the other feedings. I guess I don't know how much and how often to feed him, especially when going from fasting back to eating. Or what to feed him for that matter. The Saki-Hikari pellets are teeny tiny -- smaller than a grain of rice, while Pro-Gold are about the size of small grain rice. I do want to weigh him -- but should I wait until he's back to normal. Also, I tested his water today and everything is still at zero -- but today is his typical biweekly WC -- should I wait another day to do the WC seeing as he's just recovered? Hope all my questions are not annoying you.
  6. Thanks! I couldn't agree more.... totally not biased. Thanks! You have been so awesome!
  7. No idea. I bought him from Petsmart. The girl there told me he was a couple of months old -- he was about 2" when I got him and she also told me he's an oranda -- but I knew that wasn't the case. I've had him about 6 months.
  8. Soilent Green. I was told to feed him veggies twice a day to prevent him from eating my live plants. I now know not to do that -- but should I have never have done that much veggies?
  9. No - but I watched the weighing your goldfish video and very interested in finding out how much he weighs. But maybe not a good time to weight after a fast?? He is about 5-6" mouth to start of tail. Ok - I should start tomorrow morning, right? A couple pre-soaked pellets. Any peas?
  10. I was using the frozen. I never used freeze dried. I fed him about 1/4 tsp total broken in two feedings. I am willing to try it again. The second line was talking about Pro-Gold.
  11. I threw away the bloodworms after he started bottom sitting. When Tom (previous tankmate - RIP) got very sick I was sent to Bob Fenner -- who in his reply email to me said bloodworms are absolutely the worst and never feed them to my goldfish. I knew so many people recommended them - so I kept them and then when Francisco bottom sat I remembered that two days prior he had bloodworms and I thought -- I better toss them. I'm still a bit confused if they are good or bad. <sigh> But he also started sinking about 2-3 days after starting Pro-Gold. I have some aqueon pellets from over two years ago that came with Tom. Are they even good anymore?! Otherwise I only have Pro-Gold, Medi-Gold, and Jump Start. I think the new food should come tomorrow or tuesday. I could make a Petco or Petsmart run tomorrow morning if need be.
  12. Guess who is feeling 100% better?! Seriously! This morning the husband said he saw him bottom sitting for a few seconds -- but since 8:30am -- I have not seen him bottom sitting not once!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when he is near the bottom, he doesn't plop down, he's sand sifting with his tail up and mouth down! WHOOOOHOOOO! I'm soooo excited! So happy! I want to hug and kiss every single one of you! Here he is today: http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/GoldyFran/media/BF351241-CFAC-4477-9E63-4A352468629E-4340-000004C82168B7D0_zps325542a5.mp4.html Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now.... what?? I only have Pro-Gold at home as far as pellets (and Jump Start and Medi-Gold). I ordered Repashy and Saki-Hikari (and about $60 or other stuff from tastyworms.com) on thursday.... I'm kind of afraid to feed Pro-Gold again. Do I start with veggies? I have kale, broccoli, and peas for him in the house. I also have Prazi-Pro coming.... should I wait awhile before I treat him?
  13. Haha! I'm a SAHM -- so my life is watching this fish (oh yeah, and two kids and two pugs... ).... They sure do know how to beg for food. Which I now totally admit to needing to get better at ignoring. I definitely need to feed him less, I think, once he's eating again. Yes!! I do think it is working!! Thanks so much! This forum is really the best!
  14. LOL! Ok.... one more day. I totally agree it's harder on me than him.
  15. This morning, I thought, he was bottom sitting a lot more than yesterday. Maybe he was just hunkering down to conserve energy given the recent famine. Around 3pm - there was a small green poop in the tank. This evening he is quite active and seems to swim around much easier. Doing A LOT of java fern munching. Here is a video from earlier today. (Sorry about the background noise - toddler son and two pugs in the room.) Most of the video is him surface gulping which I think is actually more food begging than actual gulping. He seems to be doing this when I approach his tank - but not when the kids do (he knows small humans and pugs look, but don't feed). http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/GoldyFran/media/B88DA497-9A3D-44B7-B5E4-F18D503544A8-3931-0000043D2A761CE6_zpsb371f013.mp4.html What do you think? Can he eat tomorrow morning? If so, what should he have?
