  1. I also had a tetra whisper 40 going but a rod in the motor broke maybe two and a half weeks ago and I haven't replaced it yet. my parents are a no go for a30 gallon tub because "you live with a 3 year old who could get in it and drown" and she wants no more water damage :/ and a tub is a mess waiting to happen. the tank has been cycled, and the 20 is my qt tank, my neighbor has a pond he has offered to take them before but I'm pretty sure its over stocked... I'll probably buy the api test kit next time I make it to the pet store. and that was my last strip and I can't make it to a pet store and home before work. these are the best pictures I can get before work and I'll be home at 330 and I'll transfer her to a different container and trey for better pictures! in the first picture the bottom part of her tail is the red steaks she has. when I bought her the whole section except the part connected at her tail dock was unattached and since it reattached it's always had red steaks!

  3. hi guys! over the holiday weekend my family and I went camping. during that time my tank also started leaking -_- when I got home my desk was ruined, my hardwood floor in my room is ruined and the walls in the finished basement under my tank is ruined. I only had a 30 gallon but it did good damage! the leaking let our so much water that the filter couldn't reach the water so my goldies were swimming in crap for however many days! when I got home I fixed the situation as best I could and I could only get my paws on a 20 gallon which is only temporary until I find a new tank. so all was well with my water parameters until Wed morning when I woke up and saw that my oranda had white edges to her tail and was starting to fray. I immediately started my salt bath according to the one posted in the treatment section. I have now finished my treatments and her tail lost the white lining but it's still featured. the telescope in the tank is completely fine and had been since wed.this weekend I have to go out of town and my family is on vacation also. is it okay to leave them? nobody well be home to check them out. is there a chance the salt treatment didn't work and I'll come home on Sunday to finless fish? Any and all help is appreciated! thanks guys! Mads
  4. Jamie Monster: since the only contratband I will be having is goldfish that shouldn't be tooo much of a problem! Helen: contrary to popular belief we don't have 4 seasons in mi...just hot and cold and cold is probably 3/4 of the year :/ If I do choose the pond option I will TOTALLY give pics and updates!!!
  5. Hopefully I get a RA who is pro goldfish!!! Good thinking Ranchu Dressing...I totally only have a ten gallon;) Niiku- Thanks for the offer! If I do have to rehome them for a bit that would be great!
  6. Thanks for the input everyone<3 the odds do seem in my favor!! I don't know how many roommates I will have yet:/ The possibilities are from 1 to 7 eeeek! Hopefully they will like fish!
  7. Hi everyone! I'm leaving for college in a few months and have a serious choice to make. I will be attending Saginaw Valley State University, which has a pretty lienent rule on fish tanks in dorm rooms, however they will only allow ten gallon tanks. If I leave my fish at home (1 hour and 45 mins away) it will be disaster. I'm pretty sure they would be dead in weeks. My parents HATE animals (it took me 3 years to get goldfish -_-) so they wouldn't take care of them. I have a family friend who has a big beautiful pond, but they only have large koi and LARGE pond golfish. I'm not sure my telescope and oranda would fare well. I'm hoping that since I am a biology major that they will allow me special permission to either bring my 29 gal or have 2 10 gals in my dorm. If they allow the 10 gals would that even be safe? If have like kick butt filters, set up and regular WC? I couldn't bare to leave my babies at home! If this doesn't work out then I will have to rehome them which is my absolute back up plan. If anyone in MI is interested please get in touch? Just in case! Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you, have a great day!!! Mads

  11. Hi everyone! I bought this gem about a year ago and was under the impression that the nickel sized baby i bouhgt would be an oranda. However, she looks nothing like one. So the question is what do i have here??? Also, her white fins and tail have started to turn orange...is this normal? Thanks for the help! Mads
