  1. Okay, so for those of you that switched from bare-bottom to sand and would never go back, what are your reasons other than looks?
  2. So...right now I have a bare-bottom tank, and I know it is a natural behavior for goldies to want to sift through some sort of substrate for food...however, I know it isn't necessary. ...so now I am debating whether or not to put a thin layer ot sand in my tank....what are your thoughts on it?
  3. Okay that's perfect because I have nls 1mm so I will feed her that along with her non pellet things until she is bigger.
  4. Eeew I didn't know that they float...never mind on those then lolBut it sounds like Lionhead is worth a try then? My fish love it and don't have any buoyancy issues on it Thanks! I think I am going to try that then It's dense and slightly larger (2mm), so feed carefully.Should I wait till my goldfish is a bit bigger before feedinf this? She is about 2.25 inches including the tail, and is a fantail.

  7. Does anyone like Hikari Oranda gold or Goldfish gold? Or is Lionhead the best besides Saki? And this is a dumb question, but my fantail isn't going to start growing a wen if I give her lionhead or oranda gold, right?
  8. Hmm...I am thinking about trying the Hikari Lionhead, even though I have a fantail, since they carry it at my LFS...
  9. For those of you that feed pellets, what are your favorite ones to feed your goldfish?
  10. I found some frozen baby brine shrimp at my lfs. Would those be good? I also give her bloodworms, nls all purpose, and omega one micro veggie pellets. Don't worry though, I'm not over feeding, I jist give her a lot of variety....
  11. No, I was wasn't assuming anything...I wad kind of just making a joke earlier, guys....sorry everyone took it seriously...the real reason I'm not breeding is because I don't feel like it and I don't have the space for it. Sorry again for the misunderstanding.
  12. Thank you! He is my pride and joy! (And now my goldie is too lol)I'm glad I have helpful people like you to guide me through my goldfish journey! Thanks again!
  13. Oh good point about the frogs being possible carriers! I did not think of that lol! Well I just hope my betta is okay. I've had him for almost 3 years and I would hate to lose him to something from a new fish. I mean I do wash between tanks but there was a timeI didn't know about flukes when I first got Goldeen and I may have slipped...I can't remember...I have seperate.siphons for my tanks though...the goldfish tank gets a python and the tropical 10 gallon gets a regular aqueon siphon and bucket lol.
  14. Okay I will check about the betta. I guess I would have to separate him for prazi. Oh yeah I have separate equipment for each tank, and when I have to share something, I rinse it in hot water. Same idea as the hands I figure lol. Alright salt it is! Thanks so much!
  15. Thank you so much for all the detailed answers! Now I have a few follow up questions Should I give my tropical tank a dose of prazi every now and then? Is it safe for bettas and frogs? I have been washing my hands with hot water in between tanks, is that sufficient to prevent cross contamination? So I am giving my goldie the initial prazi treatment which is supposed to be 4-6 rounds. I am on round three. After this round can I stop using salt and just use prazi for the remaining round(s)?
  16. So...I now have a TON of surface agitation in my tank (I switched from an airstone to a bubble wall and I upped the filter flow),but on the prazi pro bottle, it says a surface skimmer (I know that's a different thing) would render it inaffective. Will all that surface agitation ruin my prazi treatment? I know I have sort of asked this before, but now there is a lot more surgace agitation than before.... Also, after doing 4 rounds of prazi, will I need to treat her for flukes again? What if I did 6? Is there any way to get rid of flukes for her forever? And if not, what do I need to do long term? Another question: I have been doing the prazi rounds with salt. Now, I'm not 100% sure what the salt is for, but I'm guessing it is to keep any secondary infection at bay? Well I am on round three right now, and I'm wondering if I could continue the rounds without salt after this, because she looks healthy as can be... One last question: I also have a tropical tank, and I am worried about contaminating it with flukes. If I put my hand in her water (not touching her body) and then touch the other tank, will the other tank get it? If it is a concern, how can I prevent it? Thanks so much for reading all that!
  17. Woops.... maybe i gave the wrong impression. Your fish will have enough room to live a happy and long life. With full potential i was thinking of other things like in a breeding sense. Sorry about that, i'm totally fixated on this aspect of keeping FG. oooh I see lol. I won't be breeding het since she is a pet store baby anyway XP I do not think that anyone should ever underestimate a goldfish based on where it comes from. LFS fish can be just as, if not more beautiful than those fancy chinese imports or specially bred fish of any kind. Look around on here, and you'll find that many of the largest and most beautiful goldfish are LFS babies. Oh, no, I think you misunderstood. ..she is a gorgeous, healthy goldfish! I am in love with her and her beauty!I wasn't underestimating her at all! I was just told that breeding fish from Petsmart is a no no because you don't know anything about their genes. I just didn't want to breed her for health reasons. Plus I just don't really want to go through the whole process anyway...
  18. There is no need to be frustrated. You were not misled or misinformed. We have been over and over this discussion here on this Forum and many people (including myself) have reported keeping one fish successfully for many years. There is no indication, here, that your fish is unhappy. The 29 is a lovely home for him/her One fish in a 29 gallon tank with your loving attention is way better than being with more fish in a smaller tank (which was a more likely scenario if you didn't come along). Your active glass surfing fishie is most fortunate to have someone who cares so much. Thanks so much for the piece of mind everyone! It feels great to hear that I'm doing right by her. I do care about her a lot! I just wouldn't be allowed to upgrade because I keep her at my parents house. So I'm glad her setup is good!

  20. Ugh...I asked and asked again before hetting into this if a 29gallon was big enough to hold one goldfish for it's life, and if it was okay to have just one goldfish, and I was given the green light over and over.... I am a bit frustergators
  21. Only goldfish often do become fascinated with the "fish in the glass." They are social animals. I once had a lone female swordtail who did that until I added another...should I do anything about this you think? Or do you think she is okay? Perhaps I should spend more time with her...like at the tank...
  22. Hi! I was wondering if that was it...I hope she gets over it lol
  23. okie dokie. Thanks so much for your help! Thank you! What a relief! thanks for your help too!
  24. Again, I don't think activity signals a problem. You could certainly get her 1 friend. But, with 2 fish, you would probably need to upgrade the tank once they got large. I know! That's why this has been worrying me so much! I don't want to put another fish in there!
