  1. Glad you finally got your filter and that its working for you. I run it, with the inline tap and adjust it so I get 25ltr in 30 minutes, which gets my nitrates down to 0. Great product. Remember to discard the 1st few gallons after you recharge it.
  2. Ok.i done that this morning, he stayed in for 5 minutes without any problems, he is recovering now in a holding tank. What's the next step. Is it just a matter of watching to see if the streaks, ulcers clear up? Thanks
  3. The other oranda is fine. The sores come and go, there was 3 or them , now 2. Then this evening I look again and the other 1 is coming back again. Ok. Can I just double check this (1. dissolve 30 teaspoons salt/gallon of water (30 grams/Liter, or 113.7g/gallon). I'm making a 1 gallon solution? With 113gram of aquarium salt?
  4. Can you not see red streaks in a healthy white tail tho?. Would it be internal bacteria.

  6. Yeah got inline heater, which keeps temp to 68 overnight. Will need to get all the other info later. Can you not tell from the picture. Ie is it a ulcer.
  7. hi all had a couple of oranda for about 3 weeks now. they are in a 200 litre tank with 2 external filters that are cycled, and turning over about 2400 litre per hour. water ph is 7.8 temperature 68. i use api liquid test kit and all seems 0, nitrate at 5ppm . my white oranda has a couple of what look like ulcers, red around the edge with white center, just under his eye, and he seems very quite, do you know what it is, so i can treat. thank you
  8. What is your kh to start with? You ever buffered with bicarb-soda, may work out cheaper.
  9. Yep, I found only the kh dropped, on the first run after a recharge, so I discard first 25 litre approx, then it seems normal. My water is like liquid rock. May have different effect on soft water. It drops about 4 degrees, from 19 to 15.
  10. I must of recharged each one of mine over 10 times by now over a couple of years , and still going strong. It does not say how long it last, just says it rechargeable. So if it was to stop working, I have really had my money's worth out of them, and at the price I would buy another.. Cause my nitrate are high, I'm getting about 500litres out of each filter before I need to recharge it. If you have lower nitrates you will get nearer to the 800 litre advertised. I could get more than 500, but I like to recharge as soon as I see a sign of nitrate coming through. Even tho is less than 5ppm it will gradually increase.
  11. I adjust the flow rate via the inline tap , so my 25ltr drums take 30 minutes to fill, which takes the nitrates from 45ppm to 0ppm, so well worth it. So it's not instant, but you could do it the day before its needed, like I do. Sometimes I do it even slower and go out. Time I come back the drums is nearly full etc. you will make your own system that works for you.
  12. Here are some pics of how I an using it to fill my containers, via my outside garden tap, I use a garden hose connector to connect to garden tap and some 12/16 tubing. Plus a few metal jubilee clips to secure hose to filter.
  13. I've started another thread about this. I will post pics there for you and others to see. Hose is 12/16 filter tubing, not garden hose as such, but I use a garden hose attachment to attach to my outside tap. You could get what ever attachment you need for whatever tap you will be using. I'll go post then pics now. It's in the product reviews section.
  14. I think it's made by a small u.k based company, but Shirley's is there only outlet. If you can get 2 of them . That would be better for you, so your never under pressure to recharge one. You will get a small inline tap with it, that I connect on the outlet end to adjust flow, and then connect the inlet end to my tap via a length of garden hose, and fill my 25 ltr drums. I guess you could use it inline to, straight from tap into tank, but I like to age my water for 24 hrs before adding to tank. I can add i picture of how I set up if you need any help with it. It does come with instruction leaflet also. Good luck with it, you will be impressed.
