  1. will do, thank you!! i'll update on how its going, hopefully it will be to say the 7 days are over and he's swimming around happy!
  2. powder done! there were a few bits still floaty on the top after i added it to the 5 gallon bucket, but they just wouldn't dissolve..... Thank you so much for your help!! I'm excited that this might really help him! I've felt so helpless that i'm extremely relieved now! One question though, instructions say not to do a water change for 7 days. Is there ANY chance I might be able to do one halfway through and redose what I take out? I understand it needs time to work, but I am really uncomfortable letting the tank go through a whole week without one water change.....
  3. ok thank you!! ill add it right away, and i tried to get some better pictures of the black spots but my phone camera doesnt do well close up, and honestly you cant really see it much better than that anyway. but ill try again with a better camera when i try to get the vid of his bump in his mouth. here is a pic of the tank, sorry about the quality, again, i need to get a real camera....i took off the doors so you could see under it. http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/picantelovespolarbear/125_zpsc07eb6db.jpg ill do the powder immediately. ill be at work at the 12 hour mark tomorrow, so ill fill my 5 gallon buckets and dissolve the salt in so that my boyfriend can just dump the buckets right into the tank
  4. I will call her first thing in the morning, shes very kind and has actually given me her cell phone number to call if shes not at the local vet, as shes a specialty vet for a few different places in the area, and herself keeps koi so understands fish are more than just "fish". I had actually taken him in to see her in person and she looked them over, and she had in the past had me give him injections, but wanted to try the metro first to see how it went before giving him something that serious. In case it didnt work she gave me some frozen vials of it to keep in the freezer to have on hand in case she recommended it. The ulcers have all cleared up now thankfully, I stopped giving the medicated food about a week after they had cleared up. Should I go ahead and put the prazi in, and if so which would you think would work better in my situation, the prazi pro or the aqua prazi
  5. well the vacuuming i did was with the regular carpet vacuum, I do a full gravel vac every time i do a water change. I had actually read about the gas when disrupting the gravel when looking up what this might be in these forums, so ive been taking it out about 2 cups at a time with the water changes and slowly buying the medium river rocks along with some glass bowls to put some tall plants in. I took out all decorations and im hoping some plants for them to swim through might give them something to do when they no longer have the gravel to sift through. Picante's ulcers were red with white lining and when i used the silvadene with the Q tip to clean them they came out bloody. I check him daily to make sure theres no new holes brewing, but with everything wrong with the tank i just wanted to make sure those spots were normal, he's been suffering for so long i feel like i need to give as much info as i can to try and pin point what the problem is. Since i've gotten him hes always been a surface gulper, but as i got him from a petsmart i always figured he was used to the flakes. He demands to be hand fed, and I assumed that was him begging since he has been doing it since the day i got him. He also would just swim around the tank, poke around the gravel, but with the bottom sitting the only action he does is while eating and hunting for left overs. Since i do water changes on both my tanks I fill my 55 gallon tub a few times, and when I do I put 2 full caps of prime into the water. I added the salt to the tank, ill see about getting a picture of the setup
  6. I actually have both forms of prazi, both the pro and and aqua prazi, so whichever you would recommend. I can immediately add it and will start adding the salt right now, I just wanted to get advice about it before just adding more things to the tank. The only video option I have at the moment is my iphone and its a real pain to keep focus, so if i have no luck tonight I know where I can borrow one tomorrow, I just seem to sit at the tank and talk to him anyway so I might as well do something productive. I had as much fun at disney as i could while worrying about gatsby (the blue) the whole time, I was informed by my friends I wouldn't be allowed on another trip unless I installed a nanny cam on my tanks before going, since the whole time I was venting my worries on anyone within ear shot.....He was a really big loss
  7. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) zero * Nitrite Level(Tank) zero * Nitrate level(Tank) 10 * Ammonia Level(Tap) 1ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) zero * Nitrate level(Tap) zero * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? api water test kit. just to be sure i was testing correctly I took it to my local fish store and they got the same results * Water temperature? 76 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 125. Running for a few months, had transferred over the same canister filter and media from a previous 60 gallon running since last december * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 20 gallon wet dry and cf400uv aquatop canister * How often do you change the water and how much? 50-65% every 3 days * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? yesterday at 50% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 5 fish, 2 are 7", 1 is 5", 2 are 4" * What kind of water additives or conditioners? prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? I feed them twice a day, every 5th feeding soaked pellets, other feedings I trade up peas, blanched spinach, soilent green and dried algea sheets * Any new fish added to the tank? no * Any medications added to the tank? prazi pro, general cure * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. I did 3 doses of prazi pro, then the fish started showing signs of bacterial infections so i took a break from it and started feeding soilent green gel food with seachem metronidazole powder added to it * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? some streaking in fins, black dots in picantes wen, small lump in picantes mouth * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? bottom sitting, twitching of head and fins (picante only), I am SO SORRY to be back with problems with picante again. He had previous wen ulcers and a bacterial infection that appeared to clear up temporarily, till one of my fish passed while I was gone for the weekend. I had my friend stay over to watch the fish for me while I went on a 2 night stay at Disneyland. I had vacuumed and my large blue oranda was immediately TERRIFIED, started darting around the tank, then hid out of nowhere. As he was always wary of sounds and people (took almost 2 weeks when i first got him for him to eat without me leaving the room first) I figured it was the sound of the vacuum or vibration. I left early the next morning, by the following night my friend called me, telling me he was flying around the tank, ramming into the glass, scratching on the gravel and turning pink. I left early the next morning and was home by 10am. By the time I had set up the quarantine he was floating around, and within an hour of that he had passed. He had turned deep red and had literally torn scales off from scratching. He had shown NO signs of any problems before the vacuum incident. The other fish had shown no symptoms other than some fin streaking, but from the symptoms he had i figured it might be flukes and had prazi pro on hand and wanted to use the least invasive treatment first, so I did a LARGE water change, dosed the prazi into the tank (along with 1sp per gallon salt), the next day redosed, Picante began bottom sitting from the first treatment, shoved into the bottom corner with clamped fins breathing heavily. I followed the water change no prazi then water change with prazi, and by the end of that dosing period he still was bottom sitting and had started with his ulcers again. I used the silvadene cream on his ulcers and started feeding him soilent green with metro powder added into it (1 scoop per 1 tbs food). I was instructed by the vet to feed him as much of that as I regularly feed during his meals. Their tank had also gotten pretty high during a heat wave (86) even with fans blowing across the top, so i went out and bought them a room a/c and a 55 gallon food grade tub that i fill and add ice till its temp matched and pre treat with prime. During this time i noticed him yawning and twiching. Head twitching, fins twitching, and swimming against the bottom corner of the tank, but was advised not to continue any anti parasite treatment until his bacterial infection was cleared up, being told sometimes they twitch if they're constipated. 2 weeks later his ulcers had cleared up, no more streaking, but he still bottom sat, yet not as clamped. This last week i put general cure in the tank, dosing then repeating in 48 hours. The next day I stopped feeding them the medicated gel food, fasted them for 2 days, then fed them only peas and spinach so far just in case it was constipation that was still making him bottom sit. About 30 minutes ago I saw him flash for the first time, and his twitching has gotten much more frequent, as has the yawning. Everything I have done has been advised to be done by my local vet, but it really seems to just be fixing the symptoms not the problem. Ive noticed lines on fantas tail: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/picantelovespolarbear/fantafanta_zpsb0735c00.jpg white sections on luciano (formerly lucy till i saw breeding stars a week ago): http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/picantelovespolarbear/luciano_zps34432be9.jpg some white sections on their wens: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/picantelovespolarbear/KILI_zps28521f9e.jpg and picante has formed black dots and and small black line in his wen: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/picantelovespolarbear/KILI_zps28521f9e.jpg During this whole thing the other fish have shown no signs of problems, just picante. Luciano has some serious sbd problems, but that is a problem that started long before this. Picante still gets very energetic when he even thinks he might be fed, picks gravel looking for crumbs for atleast an hour after feeding, but unless theres food involved he bottom sits, or sometimes slowly swims to the other side of the tank just to resume bottom sitting. Though as i sit here, I just saw fanta shake her head..... Any suggestions would be absolutely wonderful. I feel awful for Picante, and im hoping that whatever this is will be the root problem of his ulcers so he doesn't have to go through any of these ordeals again...or atleast be well for longer than a few months -_- Ah, and i had also found picante has a small lump inside his mouth that showed up shortly after this started. Its about the size of a small pea, and though I have tried and failed many times to get a picture of it since the only time i can see it is when he yawns, if its important i'm sure i can find a way to get a picture. it looks about the same color as he is, no redness. It might have been there before but I hadn't noticed it till he starting yawning more often. I also apologize for the pictures being upside down....they're upright on my photo bucket.
  8. Just wanted to say picante is finally perfect! I had to give him injections as the type of bacterial infection he had was resistant to the food and water treatments I was doing, but he had minor bacterial problems going that they did treat, so it wasn't all a waste. He's still not completely back to his normal self, but almost there, begging and all. I ended up upgrading both my tanks so they would have more room and hopefully avoid this from happening again, so I am now the proud owner of a 110 and a 125 gallon tank. I know it doesn't guarantee but I'm hoping it will reduce the risk. Thank you again for everyone's help ^-^ we appreciate it very much!!
  9. Well I was just worried about the ulcers being parasites initially, as at first the wen turning white and coming off in chunks, whereas now it's just ulcers. I did the second swab today and there was so much less blood, just a little on the tip of the giant Q tip, and he's much more active. So I think with the medigold this will be done with ^-^
  10. Thank you! I let him know you guys are rooting for him so hopefully that perked him up a little! I just wanted to give an update that when I got up this morning It was worse. Way worse. So I ended up taking him to my fish vet that wormed me in this afternoon, just so I could get a scraping analyzed to see if there were still parasites an wha kind of bacterial problem there was. I let her know all the wonderful help and advice I have been getting from everyone here and she agreed lol. Let her know everything he had been and will be treated with. She found no parasites (thank god) but the ulcer is WAY deeper than I thought. I went ahead and had her send off the scraping to see exactly what bacteria it is and what works best at killing it off. In the meantime she said that medigold sounds wonderful, she actually asked for the info on metro meds so she had it on hand to recommend to people, and gave me a cream to apply to his ulcers once a day called silvadene. I just wanted to repeat again how much I appreciate all the kind words and help I've gotten. I really think without having help it would be so much worse than it is now, and that I didn't take him in from not trusting the advice, I just freaked when I saw blood and was scared to lose him, I think I overreacted a little... :/ hopefully this cream will just kick start the healing that much faster and the medigold will finally push it OUT OF MY LIFE!!
  11. I read the instructions and it said to add 3 level measures for my size quarantine (1 for every 5 gallons) every 2 days for up to 3 doses. As I'm transferring him to a fresh tank daily and basically doing 100% water change I'm assuming I can dose it every day for up to 6 days? Thank you guys so much for your help, I'm really hoping this will finally kick it and he makes it through. I love all my pets but he his really special. It seems like it's always the favorites that have the most problems......
  12. I found the kenaplax, I am ordering the medi gold right now. Should I put the kenaplax in the water to hold him over or wait for the medigold.
  13. I've called my boyfriend and informed him were on a mom and pop store hunt for kanaplex this morning, should I order the medigold also or just stick to kanaplex if I find it.
  14. I'll see what I can find around here, I would like to get it locally just so I can start treatment immediately and not wait for shipping
