  1. Ive posted before what my Tap was.
  2. Which kit did you get...the master kit or just the pH kit? Drops or strips? There is a huge difference between 6.0 and 8.0. We need to know this. Can you post a picture of the test, so we can help you read it? API 5in1 Aquarium test strips. https://www.dropbox.com/s/s6v31k4s6hwoq65/20140906_183511.jpg?dl=0 This test was pretty clear but I still cant tell Unfortunately, the API Master kit that we were referring to is a drop kit. The strips are not very accurate and are very expensive. I would try to take it back and tell the store you bought the wrong thing. See if they will give you an exchange. My Petco is pretty good about that...and they should as I keep that store in business What you can do immediately to improve the conditions for your fish is start to perform weekly water changes of 50% or more. The 25% recommendation you got from the lady at the store is more for tropical fish. Goldfish need and thrive from frequent, large water changes. However, before doing this, you need to find a way to both accurately test, raise and stabilize your tank's pH. Too much of a jump in pH can harm your fish. A lot of people use simple baking soda(which is cheap) to buffer their pH. Please do not buy the pH up products at the pet store. Sadly, they wouldn't take it back because I had already used some of the strips. But I wanted to point out that this morning when I woke up, Rory was swimming upright at the top of the tank. He wont come down from the top, and when he does he seems to still be swimming unstably. So I suppose this is an improvement, but now I cant get him to eat his peas. I ran another test this morning using the strips. I know they're not completely accurate, but they are all I have. These are the rough numbers. NO3 - 160 NO2 - 0.5 pH - 6.5 KH - 80 GH - 180

  4. It might be more like 8.0, its one of those color matching tests.
  5. She didnt specify. I dont want to stress them out, so how often do you think I shoudl? You need to get the pH up and the nitrate down. If you can't get the whole API Master Kit, get the pH kit and test both your tap and tank water. In addition, you need to change as much water weekly as it takes to keep your ammonia at 0, nitrite at 0 and nitrate below 40 or less. There is no magic % number for every tank. For example, I change 70% of my water twice a week. Once we know the tap pH, we can help you stabilize the tank pH. Please confer with a moderator or helper before taking any treatment actions. pH is lower than 6.0 according to this test. That is tap.
  6. Got a test kit! Not at the moment.. I dont have a filter for it.
  7. She didnt specify. I dont want to stress them out, so how often do you think I shoudl?
  8. Okay for the water changes the lady said to change about 25% of the water and just feed Rory peas. Is this right?
  9. They can't supply specific numbers, so I am basically forced to get the "safe" phrase. However she says my nitrates were high, and pH is in the 6.2 range. Ammonia was 0. I buying new filters. Anything I should get while here?
  10. Alright I'm on my way to petco as we speak.
  11. Here is a video. In the video Rory got stuck under his rock, and I had to move the rock. I'm really worried. I was away at camp and lost Mr.T, I don't want to lose another friend.. https://www.dropbox.com/s/n5legbvgu6n49v0/20140906_150626.mp4?dl=0

  19. That's why I had suggested starting a thread in this section. She is hoping to get a drop test kit next week I think . . . FYI Kat428, the test kits tend to be much cheaper on amazon than at a pet store. . Or you could bring samples of your tap and tank water and have the local pet store test your water. Most do this free of charge. I get paid this weekend. so i should have enough money to get a few items. As of right now, im just gonna do a 10% water change every other day.
  20. How many fish in the tank? (I assume 1?) 1 How big is the tank? 29 G How often are you changing the water and how much do you change at a time? just did a 75% water change the other day How long has your tank been running? since last October. with one new filter, and a 10 percent water change every week. (with a few exceptions) What water conditioner do you use? API stress coat Do you have a test for ammonia? no.
