  1. Hey! One of my goldfish problem with its eye, and after trying a bunch of stuff, I was advised to just let it be as long as the fish is still eating and looks healthy. My fish can't see me, but he still swims around and eats. He's been having this cloudy eye for 3 years now.
  2. I have been treating with kanamycin for 2 weeks, but it seems to havent been getting any better. I am also having trouble keeping the water clear with just an air stone. He is in a 10 gal Q tank. I've been doing water changes every 2 days and adding a new dose of Kanamycin. What do you think of those pictures?
  3. Hi everyone! I have a 55 gallon tank with two adult goldfish. I want to try adding more fish without overstocking. someone suggested 2 guppies, 2 Dalmatian lyretail mollies, and a pleco. What do y’all think?
  4. I can't find Kanamycin anywhere unless I order it online. I have API Fungus Cure and Maracyn 2. Would I be able to use one of those instead?
  5. I have been away for a while thanks to healthy goldies I will try that and update you on the progress in 2 weeks, thank you Arctic Mama! What could be causes of a tumor? I've had 2 other fish with tumors as well, seems like an unfortunate common theme in my tank....
  6. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank)0 * Nitrate level(Tank)20 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) ? Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API test kit, but they expired 2 years ago * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 55 gal, 6 years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 1: marineland emperor 400 2: AquaClear 70 * How often do you change the water and how much? Once a week, ~60% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Two days, 60% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2, both are a litter bigger than a foot * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Flakes, once a day * Any new fish added to the tank?no * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Nothing in the main tank as of the last 4 years or so, but I have quarantined this fish 2 years ago when he first started showing signs of a cloudy eye. I treated him with only 2 days of prazi and salt and maracyn, until someone on here told me to just let it be and its not bothering the fish and its not contagious unless it pops. It hasnt popped and I put him back in the main tank, but now I noticed his eye looks like it is enlarged and I see some red again around the gills and a bit on the frontal part of the head. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Red gills and a little but on its head, one eye looks like a bubble and the other is and cloudy * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Eats and swims well
  7. Thank you for your inputs! I was going to ask, how would you prevent toxic gas pockets from happening and releasing into the tank? Using a cup of sand is a good idea. Also, if you were to decide to take out the sand of the aquarium.... how would you go around that? I'm sure that would be a pain
  8. Hi all! I currently have a bare bottom because it's the easiest to clean. I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 large goldfish. I used to use marble as substrate (about half an inch thick) but it would trap so much waste and make siphoning take so much longer. I'm afraid if I get actual gravel, my fish would suck it up since they like to scavenge among the gravel. What type of gravel do you recommend for larger goldfish? Thank you!
  9. I suggest you get your water tested at your local fish store and report back the numbers (don't just let them tell you that it's good- ask for numbers); most issues are related to water parameter. Do you know if your tank is cycled?
  10. My filters are old and the suction is bad and someone suggested I invest in an Aquaclear filter. I have a 55 gal tank and currently 2 filters for 5 years, Aqueon QuietFlow 55/75 and Marineland Bio-Wheel Emperor Power Filter, Size 400. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Aqueon and getting Aquaclear. What are your opinions on Aquaclears, or is there a better filter I can get and how long have you had your aquaclears or other filters? Most importantly, how is the suction??? Also, should I get the Aquaclear 70 or 50 (since I already have another filter). There's a $10 difference. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000260FUW/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=
  11. Hmm, do you suggest I invest in an Aquaclear filter or undergravel filtration with my current filters?

  13. I read that it is a popular treatment for ulcers, minor wounds, fin rot, etc. Just a dab of h2o2 should do the trick. Has anyone tried it or knows if it's safe to use?
  14. I don’t have a grey switch. Here are some pictures , I can’t figure out what to do about the suction it’s bad! Here is my tank with my filters and kids! I this white thing took a while to be sucked in. here’s the other marine land filter idk if the suction reaches all the way to the bottom. this is my bubble wand in the middle! 15. Yesterday i cleaned out both filters and both impellers and I replaced a little bit of the filter pads bc they look very old, hoping that does something.... is there a way I can increase the suction from the filter I was watching yesterday as a chunk of waste was swimming past the intake and it didn’t even suck it up until it was very close. What do I do about this can I replace it and what do I replace? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I have 2 filters for my 55 gal tank (2 goldfish) that I've had for about 5 years. I have an Aqueon QuietFlow 55/75 and Marineland Bio-Wheel Emperor Power Filter, Size 400. I've noticed that the suction isnt very good and I have to siphon twice than I normally do, could the filters have gotten older? How long should they last should I replace them?
  17. How do I know if it’s benign or cancerous? Is there a way I can control it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. It's soft and cauliflower looking. Nothing oozing out
  19. To get the suction going I have an airpump that I attach the the small end of the python and empty the water from the other side. I tried to get the suction going from my python without the airpump, but it's not strong enough to pull the waste from the gravel. What I do is I have a smaller water changer that I use to siphon the waste into buckets while the water is emptying. Has anyone experienced this?
  20. The intake suction tube things from the filters don’t quite reach the bottom and I notice that the suction isn’t very great bc there is always waste in the gravel (or maybe my kids are just messy!) My two filters are 55/75 aqeon, and a 75 gal marineland. I don’t have too many bubbles on the surface bc I read somewhere as long as the water breaks the surface the ripples are fine. I was thinking of getting a bubble wall to put in the back for aeration and aesthetic purposes, do you have any suggestions on where to begin? And what are your thought on undergravel filtration? Is it affective and how does it work? I also avoid ornaments with holes so there aren’t small spaces bacteria can grow. Let me know how I can improve it. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. This is what I read somewhere: "You will need to physically clean the ulcers on your fish using a solution of iodine or hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip, and add an antibiotic compound to the water to eradicate the bacteria itself." I'm not sure if I should go about this since I have not done anything like this before! haha

Bloody streaks, one red growth on top of head, one really big growth on the side of the body, has been growing for three months, kinda popping out and white (tumor????) * * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Eating very well and always asks for food, but sometimes sitting at the bottom but not often I was gone on vacation for two months and gave him to my friend in a 20 gallon tank (back when the other fish was quarantined), but kept the same filters and he was prompt w the water changes and feeding schedule, but he just noticed the bump growing. The bump looks white on the top. Is it contagious and should I quarantine him?
