  1. Great job in providing them with a place where they can thrive!!!
  2. I am so glad I did bring him home. He is a little sweetheart!
  3. He seems to be doing fine. He is a bit skittish with all the light flooding in the window and lots of movement around him but I am putting the hood together so I can cover one end with a towel. He's a good little eater - I gave him a piece of repashy which I thought he would nibble at but after a few tries he got the whole lump in his mouth! He is so tiny. He makes Kirby look like a whale.
  4. Thanks. It's funny, you see this fish at the store and something about it catches your eye (for me it was that he was a ranchu, hadn't seen one at the LFS before). You bring him home, notice he needs fattening up, but it kind of ends there. Then one day you suddenly realize how much he's changed. It's as if it happened over night and just to be sure you have to hunt up some old photos. I just love watching them grow and change. Thanks. He is a little shorter than my little guy but otherwise they're pretty close. It looks like Aten is developing some wen, too,so there is hope for my little guy. Thanks for sharing!
  5. Wow, that truly shows how great food and care is sooo important in goldfish-keeping! Awesome job and thanks for sharing. You are an inspiration for us all!!!
  6. OK guys here's some pics and guess what- in daylight he's not homely- he's pretty cute! He has a lot more white on him than I could see last night. He won't have to be called Homer after all. The poor little guy is pretty skinny and hasn't grow much in the three months he was at the lps but I'm going to feed him lots of good food and get him healthy!
  7. Kudos to you for adopting a rescue fish! It’s good that you are being cautious, and soliciting advice on your quarantine tank. I’m going to take a back seat here and learn along with you. Good luck to the new fish on the block. Thanks. here's to a very uneventful quarantine!
  8. I'm sorry, I still don't know how to copy the form here for all my tank info.
  9. How exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing photos of them together soon. In the mean time tell us more about him. I've started a thread in the Quarantine section and will post some pics tomorrow!
  10. Sooo, I did the old impulse thing today. I was into the other pet store in town looking for black hosing and of course went to check out the fish tanks. Back in Oct. just before I got Kirby I had noticed this store had a couple of tiny ranchu that were mostly orange with straight backs and no head growth. Their tanks are always unhealthy with at least a couple of sick looking fish and I wanted to be sure my new fish was healthy so I didn't spend much time looking at them but there was one little guy that came up to the front of the tank and did a little fishy dance for me. Well over the following months I checked in there a few times and noticed there was only one little guy left and it was the one who'd come to the front the first time I'd seen them. He would do his little dance everytime I checked the tanks and seemed healthy enough but wasn't growing at all. Today there was a dead oranda in the tank at the end and everyone else seemed very lethargic and unhealthy but when I got to the tank where my little buddy was he came wiggling up to the front of the tank as usual! That was it for me - I couldn't leave him there. He was hanging in there for three months waiting for someone to rescue him and I finally clued in that it was me that should be rescuing him. So what if he's not a calico and he is one homely little fellow- he's tough! Just hope he's not picked up anything I can't treat. I will start adding salt right away but was wondering if I should do a more aggressive quarantine this time as he definitely came from a very unhealthy system. What do you think Alex?
  11. Thanks mg! Kirby will soon have a buddy in paradise, cuz I brought home a little buddy for him today.
  12. Thanks Carole! Your beautiful tanks have always been my inspiration.
  13. Congrats Lisa! Lucky Waldo is in good hands. Look forward to watching him grow!
  14. Didn't I hear someone mention how awesome she must be in a video? Hint, hint.
  15. Wow, my kind of room - plants, fish and a dog! Love it.
  16. Oh my gosh, your fish are sooo beautiful! I am having a really hard time finding a calico ranchu so good thing I live so far away or I would seriously think about fish-napping one or two of your beauties!!!
  17. You have a beautiful group of fish! I really like Legolas!
  18. Sorry to hear your old guy is under the weather, GG. Sending healing vibes your way.
