  1. My laptop died and I'm typing on my phone. I'll try to create a photobucket account.

I'm using API freshwater master kit.

Tap water ph 6.8-7 (hard to tell)

    Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate 0

I bought the medigold to try to get the blood streaks to go away. Both fish eating it. Both have them. Otherwise they act 100% normal - very perky, friendly, stare at me begging for food, wagging their tails like dogs.

Last water change 3 days ago was prob 45%. Then I just did 50%. I was doing more like 75% water change every week before buy the fish store told me I was changing too much water. I can test my water again.

Thank you so much. I feel like I've tried everything and am missing something.

  3. Hello,

Please help me. I am scared for my fish. I have 2 Orandas in a 46 gallon bowfront tank. Water test yesterday ph 7, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 40-80. I change the water every 5-7 days. I have tried API Erythromycin for 8 doses, Furan 2 for 4 doses, put salt in water, and am feeding Medi Gold. This has been going on since Jan. Tank is bare bottom with marbled, and I have a long air stone in it. I put General Cure in yesterday just to try it out of desperation. Fish are acting normally, but the streaks are getting worse :( PLease give me any advice. Thank you!!!

  4. I have 2 new orandas for 2 weeks. They got 2 rounds of Prazi Pro and seemed fine. This week I put in live plants from Planted Aquarium Central. I disenfected them with bleach, then stacked them in Prime + water. The next day or do, both fish developed tiny white spots on the tails and fins. Then it went away! Now it is back. Is this Ich? Advice?

  5. Oh geez. I've been way over feeding them!! I think I fed them a years worth this week- sorry fishies!!!!! I got Kikari purple bag at my LFS, a veggie clip for fresh veggies and I ordered Repashy soilent green on Amazon.

I asked for Soilent Green in my LFS and the woman turned pale. She said it was a post apocolytpic movie in the 70's where people ate cube food that ended up being made from humans. I googled it and it was called Soylent Green. Still funny it is named that.

  6. I'm pretty sure I overdoes my new Goldie's. They are orandas about 2 or 3 inches without the tail, and thin. How many sinking pellets do you give each - 2, 10, 100? I put a small handful in some water to soak it, then dumped it in. Right away it looked like way too much. It took them hours, but they ate it all. I also gave them a small bowl of peas in the evening. How many peas can they each eat? Seems no matter how much I put in they munch till they are done. Thanks!

  7. Thank you everyone. Gosh they are so cute. I keep dragging my kids, husband, parents to see them ... I'm not sure if anyone is as enamored as I am.

Green Tea - thanks for the advice. I bought some sponge filters on Amazon and put them on the intake and outflow. The fish almost immediately started exploring everywhere once the current was dampened.

  8. We just got 2 Orandas Tuesday. One is a little bigger than the other. The larger one head butts the other away from the food. It also swims under the fish and pushes her up/away. I see it chasing the other fish to. o. There is plenty food for both, but the bigger one is not sharing. Advice?

  9. I finally got my fish!! I have been trying to fishless cycle a tank Sept. They are so long awaited. My girls each picked one oranda. One is a red cap that was named Munchie by a 6 year old. The other is orange with black fins, black stripe on spine, and a black spot on the "nose." I am on my iPhone. Is there a way to post a picture? They are Soo cute I am in love.

Right now they are in a 46 gallon bow front. They stay together all the time. They seem to prefer one corner where I think the filter currents are the least. I have a Rena XP3 canister, and an Aquaclear 100 (I think). The water is flowing and swirling everywhere - is that ok??

Another question - I tied some anubias to rocks. Will they grow on any rock, or does it have to be porous? Thank you!!

  10. Oops, I posted twice. Thank you for the advice. I'm printing everything out making sure I am ready. I cycled a small tank for a future Betta before. Once cycled, I had to keep feeding the tank ammonia until I found my fish. Now I'm thinking I'm going to have to do that with the big tank once it's cycled and the fish are in QT. now I'm thinking maybe they can go in an uncycled tank while the big tank is cycling. I can change all the water on a 10 gallon easily

  11. I am wondering if I need another tank ... I am cycling a 55 gallon now. Since there is no one in it do I need to start in a QT tank? I have a feeling I do to get the nasties off and give meds. Should I be cycling another tank? I have an empty new 10 gallon I was going to put my froggies in (they are living in a 5). Would that be ok to QT 2 goldfish? Can I QT both at the same time, same purchase?
