  1. Can you guys spot the second fish on the picture? I just realized it now...haha
  2. Chaplin is the orange and black because it looks like he has a mustache like charlie chaplin! Yes! Haha, correct. I dunno how you saw that from the picture, but it true he is really by far the most active in the tank. The name kinda came because of the white fine "on top" of the body...I guess I was just craving coffe or something
  3. Wow, I actually like his intial color more. Your pics are awesome, by the way!
  4. Thanks everyone. Now you guys can guess who is Chaplin and who is Capuccino...and why?
  5. Here some other products from Hanna: Test Kist: Nitrate Test Kit for Soil and Irrigation Water, HI 38050 | HANNA Instruments Photometer: Nitrate (as Nitrogen) Portable Photometer, HI 96728 | HANNA Instruments USA Personally, I haven't really decided yet. I also need to check how to get one of those in Canada.
  6. Here is some devices I found: - http://www.sensafe.com/eco-check/ - http://www.amazon.com/American-Marine-Pinpoint-Nitrate-Monitor/dp/B001EHAYUE?tag=vglnk-c1762-20 Will look for more.
  7. The fish is doing better now. I just uploaded a video to my blog for everyone who is interested: http://micro-aquaponics.tumblr.com
  8. Hi everyone, I am using the API Feshwater Master kit so far. It is good to get a general impression, however the nitrate reading is very hard to read. Personally, I have a big difficulty to see the differences between 10 an 20 ppm or 40 and 80 ppm. What are better kits for more exact measures for nitrates? Any hints? You wonder why I need this? Its because I want to calculate nitrate build up and clearance parameters for my aquaponics project. Thank you, Sina
  9. Thank you so much, dnalex. Yes, I kinda exspected that this would not work with the bacteria in the tank. Now i have to check, what kind of tank I could use... So far I dipped the fish for about 1min in 3% salt, every day. See the picture, it looks better. But now the lips are kinda black...is that a good sign?
  10. Thank you. Yes, it is still eating with great pleasure. Ph values are around 7 for both. I followed a guide on another site and put the fish 1min in 3% salt solution. So far it greatly reduced the symptoms. The problem is, that the fish was like 4 dollars. I know it sounds cruel, but it makes not really much sense to buy medication for a fish who just came freshly from the petstore. Hopefully the salt works though. Another question: I have amoxicillin here. Could I dose that for the fish? Ist there any guide for that?
  11. I had quite some trouble with starting the tank, even though it was perfectly cycles. Now I was away 2 days and the fish has a mushy structure around the mouth and a red eye. What could that be?
