  1. I was thinking about that..I think I might put something up on craigslist so then I don't have to ship the fish plus I can see if the person has a tank or pond and not just a fish bowl.
  2. It will depend on the LFS, but I think you will have a much easier time with locally-owned places. hmm there arent many but I can always try
  3. I was wondering if anyone knew if pet stores take in fish or do I just call places and see? I have 27 fry right now and I only plan on keeping one so what can I do with the rest that survive? It is a bit early to start calling places but I just want to have a plan so when it is time to give them away that they have a home.
  4. I'm very jealous of your set up its goregous
  5. I also read if I left the water sit out for 24 hours that the ammonia should lessen is this true? I do plan on buying prime or amquel I believe its called to help with the ammonia.
  6. and what do I do if they are high?
  7. well I do know I get water stains on my tank at the top so I'm guessing my water is hard. I ahve a 20gal and I plan on putting my fish in a bucket while I empty the water and same with my filter media with a airstone to keep it wet and so it has oxygen and the fish will also have a airstone in their bucket. I plan on taking the tank over to the new house(its only 15 mins away) letting it sit a bit since it will be hot out and then fill it up after an hour and get the fish in. I do change my water every 4 days about 80-90% of it. I only have one filter. Should I try to keep the gravel wet then?I was told beforehand that it was okay as long as I kept my filter media that my tank should cycle right away. Besides the people are moving into my house two days after we move.
  8. at the house i'm at now it's 7.6 and my tank is 7.6 also I also called the water company and the lady said there wasn't any thing saying there is ammonia in the water so I'll retest. Never trust that someone is giving you accurate info. You have the test and have found ammonia. If you test it a couple times and the result is consistant you know you are right and they are wrong. well I tested the water once I was home and tested it from the same sample of water each time so I plan on taking my kit over and testing it there next time I go there just in case but I do plan on picking up prime if it does test positive for ammonia again
  9. yea i'm happy about that and nope

  11. haha its fine and I never knew that. Also I guess I should keep checking my tap every once in awhile to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
  12. and no I'm just concerned about the ammonia My tap is up above
  13. I figured:/ but I was wondering if it would be really bad or if there was anything I could do..maybe it's just that sink??I did put it in a tea bottle afterwards..so maybe test it again another day just cuz the tea could have tainted it? I did wash the bottle out though before hand. Any amount of ammonia in the tap is too much, but you can use Prime to detoxify it. Your bio-filter should adapt to that small amount in no time. During the time it takes to adjust, Prime the tank everyday. Alright and will this affect the fry also?
  14. The stuff I use now only removes chlorine and chloramines and detoxifies heavy metals..But I will keep an eye on the ammonia levels.

  16. I'll be moving Wed so I decided to test the water at the house awhile so I wouldn't have to when we moved. Nitrate:0ppm Nitrite:0ppm Ammonia:0.25ppm(is this normal/ok?) High pH range:7.4 pH:7.6 I tested the ammonia twice to make sure it was right..the water at my house(the one im in now till wed) is 0ppm for ammonia. Is this okay since it's only a little or what can I do to lower it..
  17. Since youre asking about a filter when is the right time to put a airstone in or raise the water level
  18. haha I mean I can see why they think were scary were 20x the size they are haha but they are so little and cute it's hard not to look at them
  19. Sorry to hear that and when are they suppose to hatch? Also good luck hopefully all goes well this time:)
  20. How are your fry doing by the way?do you have a thread up?
  21. I have one fry that seems to be developed more than the others which I saw the food in its stomach yesterday. The other fry seem to be catching up though development wise.
