  1. Yes it's true, they are not particularly helpful or friendly lol. But in terms of goldfish choices, I think they're the best in town (that I know of). I've been to the one in Kingsway a few times but it's really hard to choose since the tanks are way overstocked. The lady there is nice though. I think she imports her goldfish from China. Her family owns a goldfish farm there but I don't know if she still imports her stock or not. I got my goldfish from Apets in Richmond. I've seen great ryukins, ranchus, and lionheads there but I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know what they have. They are not very consistent with their stocks fyi. Sometimes they have great ones, some days they have nothing at all. It's really the luck of the draw haha...
  2. Have you checked fraser aquarium? They have quite a few selections.
  3. Thanks for the info fang! So you're saying it's the high protein content in foods that causes the floatiness? Because come to think of it, the effect is kind of immediate, ie: he'll flip upside down not long after consuming pellets and repashy. But won't when being fed peas.
  4. It came about 2 days ago. It was just there one day. Haven't changed since.
  5. Just in case you missed my previous post, this has been going on and off for several weeks now. I have tried fasting him for a week, then peas only for a week, then repashy only, then pellet/repashy in the am then peas in the pm. Fyi, during these times his poops were normal. While he'll get better with fasting and peas only, the second I introduce pellets/repashy, he'll be upside down again. Just fyi And yes I have metro powder.
  6. Forgot to mention that he had long white poop a few hours ago. It is not a poo casing, it looks like a thread. I think it's from the stress of being upside down. Would you agree?
  7. Ok I will do that. I am really at a loss trying to find what to feed him. Have tried saki hikari, hikari lion head, repashy, aqueon. And they all make him floaty. Was going to try bloodworm next... Any idea what the red blotches on its scales are caused by?
  8. Thanks for the well wishes guys... I hope he'll hang in there.... Don't know what's wrong with him
  9. Yes, i use seachem alkaline buffer to raise my tap pH. Hopefully someone will know what is going on. He's just looking so sad now
  10. No it didn't. I see green poop and food colored poop though. Could be a she, the reason I said 'he' was because of his breeding stars last spring.
  11. Has been on and off for the past few weeks. I thought he was constipated, so I tried peas only for a week, then fasting for a week, then repashy only for a week, last week I tried I feed pellets/repashy in the am and peas in the pm. Today, he started doing this for most of the day, almost to the point that he's being sucked into the filter. His belly feels normal, not squishy. He eats fine.

  13. Check ebay. Some sells them there. Might be way cheaper.
  14. Yes I do have plants but my filter intake has a sponge covering it, so usually the plant materials are collected there as opposed to inside the filter. As for diatoms, I do have some but wouldn't call them an outbreak, no significant increase then in previous weeks. It might be biofilm. How quickly do they appear? I just rinsed my filter 2 weeks ago and they were not the least bit slimy. Btw, yes the filters are both HOBs.
  15. I didn't know it was slimy until I start rinsing them. So, no it was not visible as algae. I am not really worried because parameters are not affected. Just curious, that's all.
  16. It doesn't look any different than any other time's I've cleaned it. No change in anything at all. No food, no salt, nothing new added to tank. Quite strange.
  17. Usually, I rinse my filter pads once a month with no problem. Last I rinse them was 2 weeks ago, but today my filter was really clogged, which never ever happened before. When I took them apart, all of the filter pads were covered in slime. Does anybody know what they are? Are they just algae? FYI, I'm on my 4th round of prazi this week, but I've treated with prazi a couple of times before and have never encountered this.
  18. Thanks everyone! For substrate I use the fluval ones. For lights, two T5s 14 watts each. I do use fluval CO2, but I tend to forget to turn them on most of the time haha... But it does make a difference. When the plants stop producing new leaves, then I know I've been slacking on the CO2 for way too long lool.. Used to add ferts early on, but find that it produces too much algae so I don't do it anymore.
  19. Weeell that's not completely true. I used to have a lot of water lettuce floating but Fred eats it faster than it can grow. Same with vals. I used to have some but he eats it. It was a lot of trials and errors in the beginning. I haven't bought plants in a while, we'll see how he does with the hemianthus. Trust me Shawn, it's not algae free. I have to clean the leaves weekly because my nerites is so very lazy. He just likes to hang around I guess hahahah... Thanks Mr B! Good to know. Will keep that in mind. Thank you!
  20. Gorgeous fish Sakura. Clover and Callisto too. Are you planning on breeding any of them? Seems like you keep your fish in pair
  21. Thanks Alex! Can't have a bigger tank and buy more fish (btw, envious of your new fishies additions) so I just add things to it loll.
  22. There's lots of anubias and chain sword plants scattered around. There's also amazon sword and banana plant that I have had forever and some other ones that I don't know the name of haha.... Just got the hemianthus at the same time I bought the driftwood, so I don't know if it's going to grow well yet.
  23. Haven't posted any updates of my tank in a while. Fred is doing well, though haven't grown much since last I posted. That brings me to my post today. I decided to get some driftwood at my lfs and after boiling it for 4 hours and letting it cure for a week by soaking it in water, I finally added it to my tank. The boiling got most of the tannins out since the water was completely clear in the bucket. So, here's my tank now. Can't believe it'll turn 1 year old in 3 weeks!
