  1. It's been a long week. I just got paid today. I will try to get some supplies tomorrow. I'm working and going to school so my time is very limited. I did as you said, give them a rest and up the water changes. I am afraid to say that I haven't been able to afford the garlic or anything. The white spots in her eye are still there and she's still a little floaty. I wonder if the triple sulfa did a number on their swim bladders. I am still noticing some occasional, I believe the term is flicking? They aren't trying to scratch themselves or anything, but they will just be swimming calmly and then all of the sudden swim very fast for a second. It's weird.

Interestingly today, before I went to work (was running late) Koko was floating upside down! Just hanging out at the top upside down. I was very worried but with this new job, I'm on probation and can't miss or be late once or I will get fired. Anyway, I came home and she's just fine. Maybe she was a little backed up? That's my guess.

Looking forward. I should get salt, garlic, and what else? I'm out of medi gold. If it is flukes, I'm very frustrated as they have gotten like 5 treatments of prazi. Why can't I eradicate them? I think I'm going to get some new food for them. What would you guys recommend? Sorry, I feel very irresponsible right now but I'm doing the best I can :(

  2. I forgot to mention that I was adding the liquid CO2. I don't i know what that ph was during that time other than one reading done at the pet store that said no. Change. I haven't added any while medicating because I don't want a chem reaction that I'm not aware of. But still, I kinda doubt there'd be much of a change if any.

Anyways, thoughts anyone? What should I do?

  3. No it wasn't lowered. I know that CO2 at least in humans is acidic. With the addition of plants, the only change other than the new filters, it might have been possible. I didn't have a means of testing ph until now. It appears that it is just as it always has been. Anyway, if my ph went from 8 (what it is now) to something lower say a 7.4 I'd be shocked and a little impressed as thats a far jump. But no, no ph change has ever been noted.

  4. Waiting on my camera battery to charge. There is a vet here in utah that contracts with Salt Lake City's living planet aquarium. S/he said that s/he takes private clients. It would cost a few hundred dollars at least to go this route. I'd rather not because I can't really afford it but I will if I have to.

I also wanted to mention that her mouth appears to not be even. Picture someone who had a stroke and only talks with half their mouth. that kind of thing.

  5. Yes Narny, Lucy's eye was a bit red so I suspected an eye infection and so we got the triple sulfa. We have the fungus cure on hand (haven't done it yet because I'm afraid of it killing my plants). I have a box of maracyn two on hand.

Please copy & paste fill the following form and fill it out to the best of your ability when requesting help for Goldfish Problems:

    • Test Results for the Following:
      • * Ammonia Level(Tank) I think it's zero, definitely less than 0.25 (it isn't green at all, but doesn't match the color on the chart). It is yellow tho.
      • * Nitrite Level(Tank): 0
      • * Nitrate level(Tank): < 5.0 ppm
      • * Ammonia Level(Tap) same as above, i think it's zero.
      • * Nitrite Level(Tap): 0
      • * Nitrate level(Tap): 0
      • * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines): ph: 8
      • * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines): ph: 8
      • Other Required Info:
        • * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops
        • * Water temperature? 74ish
        • * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 56 gallons. Over a year
        • * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Two Aqueon quiet flow 55/70s.
        • * How often do you change the water and how much? 1-2 times a week. normally at roughly 50%-60%. Lately, it's been 25% daily as directed on the api triple sulfa.
    • * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Today, 25%
    • * How many fish in the tank and their size? 4 fish. 2 orandas both are between 6 and 7 inches. 1 Cory catfish and a rubberlip pleco that is about 2 inches.
    • * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime.
    • * What do you feed your fish and how often? Omega one lately, I need to get more repashy.
    • * Any new fish added to the tank? Only the rubberlip about 3-4 months ago.
    • * Any medications added to the tank?
    • * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment.

Oh boy, um melafix for a week than stopped. Prazi 2 weeks, two treatments and two salt baths per protocol. finished about two weeks ago. And last four days triple sulfa for eye.

Prior to that. Maracyn 2 i think for koko's popeye and salt baths awhile back. 2 to 3 other treatments with prazi. Medigold for something that I can't remember (a long time ago).

    • * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus?
    • Fins on koko, despite treatments of prazi and melafix. Lucy's fins also apear slightly diminished. A week ago her eye was very red (hence the sulfa) and a small chunk of her tail fin at the bottom corner was gone and was bloody).
    • * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.?
    • Lucy hasn't been eating or finding her food as well as she used to. I was worried about it earlier but the thread got moved (the thread was how to tell if your fish is blind) Now she is very floaty. She rights herself up but I'm worried. They both have been fasted for two days now.

  6. Hi guys!

So I finished doing TWO prazi treatments for suspected flukes at Alex's II's suggestion. Did salt baths between each at the recommended dosages. That was 2 weeks ago. The fins still appear saw toothed. Also, Lucy now has cloudy eye. It almost looks like something is growing on the outside of it and it has now moved to both eyes (maybe fuzzy?). She is also very floaty and I did observe some white stringy poop.

Currently, the tank is on day 4 of triple sulfa and they are on day two of being fasted. (I don't have a QT tank except a plastic rubber made type bin).

I will get a video and do the API water test etc now. I read that it could be caused by the PH. We have VERY hard water here, I wonder if it has something to do with the plants I put in and lowering the pH. Well off to the testing!

  7. I noticed yesterday that she has some redness below her right eye and today i noticed what might be cloudy eye. Both fish are being treated for flukes with prazi and salt at the recommended doses from the mods.

She isn't eating and I'm worried. I have some metro meds that haven't been opened but the bag is a year old. Should I try feeding her this? Or should I try to pick up some erythromycin for the possible eye infection.

I just got a new job and started school. I'm terribly busy UGH! I did two 50% water changes yesterday and a salt dip for both before doing a second round of prazi. I did this to hopefully jump start the prazi process and I was a day late on the water change according to the schedule, if that makes sense.

Help! Also if this needs to be moved back to D&D please do so. Thanks.

  8. I got the prazi and have some aquarium salt. What is the reason for heating it up, is it to I increase soluablity?

I will start this process tomorrow. Also, I was wondering is there any difference between the prazi sold at Gfconnection and prazi pro other than liquid vs powder? The little bottle of prazi I got, 4 fl oz, cost 18 bucks. Just wondering if the powder would stretch my dollar more.

Also. Can I put both of them in the same holding tank since I think I may as well treat both for flukes? Or is this inaccurate?

And at what salt percentage do I need to move my plants?

  9. I didn't really notice it earlier, now whether it was always like this i don't know. But I've noticed that the red cap has a harder time than the other one getting food. She still eats, it's just that she hoovers everything but the food sometimes.

Also when I hand feed them Koko, the blue usually sits back a few inches from the food as if thinking about it and seems to have control. Lucy, the red often runs into my hand and misses. I have to practically put it on her mouth sometimes. Ugh

  10. Hi guys. I recorded another video using the DSLR (this was done before I read DNAlex's post), I think it shows the fins better. More info can't hurt right? Let me know what you think. I'll have to try and get a hold of some money and order the stuff online. Will the stuff on GFconnection work for this? http://goldfishconnection.com/shop/details.php?productId=171&catId=1

Should I pick up this too http://goldfishconnection.com/shop/details.php?productId=28&catId=1? Or any other med while I'm at it? Lastly, will the .1% harm my plants do you think?

Oh, almost forgot here's the other video. In the future I will use a pen to point instead of saying "right there". I'm mostly looking at the caudal fins of both of them.
