  1. Thanks Graycee. Yeah my sick fish died this morning so your words ring true. But I should look on the bright side. I have tons of little ones to take care of. I could probably figure out how to divide the middle school into a upper elementary/middle school. They are so small they could go in a bucket for a while during renovations. Nrr... why didn't I think of that sooner? oh yeah... the sick fish was taking up the extra bucket to do this. Um... okay this is the next step, new beginnings and all that.
  2. Too late. At some point in the night/morning (my sleep schedule is off) the tubing from the air stone to the pump shot off. It was on full blast. He had no air. He didn't make it. RIP Zon
  3. I just held him for a little bit and tried to hand feed him some squished peas. I couldn't even get it in his mouth. He's not opening up much at all. I'll probably need some sort of liquid. Maybe even something that dissolves nutrients into the water. I know that wont do much but it's better than nothing.
  4. This is insane. Yeah I have to pick up more mineral salts and food tomorrow anyways so I'll pick up a syringe. Know where I can get one of those, rite aid? And as for peas/baby food, does actual baby food work?
  5. It's not looking better today. Sure the fins are fine and when he does swim he can use his fins but now it's this. What new level of hell is this?! He just collapses on the ground to his side. I turned down the bubbles so it's easy to see but no worries, the bubbles are cranked way up high again. <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid6.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy230%2FEccoBell%2FFishies%2Fsick%2520fish%2Fcheckuponhisside.mp4">
  6. Wow! Eating off eyeballs! That intense. I'm glad you shared that. I had a little net but threw it away when I couldn't get it properly cleaned, it got mold. Those nets at the stores here for fry are really small. So it wouldn't give them much room to swim & no say goodbye to playing in the bubbles. But that's a good idea. Last time I tried to rig up a net inside the tank to keep the males & females separate they busted it down. I think I'd have to start it with a dry tank and use silicone. hmm... It sure would! I'd only move the 3 of the bigger babies in there cuz the smaller 2 would easily fit in the parents mouths. The big tank is 75 gallons and I check it regularly and it would totally be okay. However I do have a big problem. The nursery, I've only had time lately to give them one water change a day, not two. Today they will get two, maybe three. But their nitrite levels are getting much too high and the nitrates aren't good either. No problems with ammonia though. I think the sponge filter isn't doing much in the way of bacteria, perhaps. I've lost a few of them, which is sad but normal. Today though, I looked in and a few of them have got swim bladder issues and a few of them are spazzing out. I'm hoping that's only due to water quality, hence the extra water changes today. I took out some plants that seems like they were just decaying. Deep sigh. I'm not sure what more I can do.
  7. He's looking peckish. I don't think he's been eating. Gave him a salt bath today. Had it almost ready for him yesterday but when I got back to the bucket hours later for the water to get to room temp. the water was still freezing cold so put it closer to the radiator overnight. But in the dip he lasted almost 3 minutes! He swam around in it and looked like it perked him up. When I put him back into the other bucket he sorta fell down and stayed on his side for a bit. Hopefully today I'll have the time to just sit with him and watch if he actually eats or not. This little one being sick, the nursery needing 2 water changes a day, and my other tanks are turning this into almost a full time job!
  8. I totally LOVE that fish too! I thought Valcore was gonna turn into something like that... oh well. That's so sweet. How long do you think it takes for them to get that size with the right conditions? Too funny him bumping into the glass like a floating cow. I wonder how big the 'tank' is flowing in the background/underneath him. Probably huge. My ideal fishy would be a panda with a really long tail, slight telescope eyes, and the size of my cat (23lbs) so like, 1' body and 2' with tail. No idea where it would live though. Can I get a stroller for a big fish and take him around the block?
  9. Oh wow! Well the bigger babies are about a small inch and the adults are a big 3-7". I could wait a few more days, maybe a week but the fry just had a growth spurt since last night (of course) and I just worry that it might start eating the tiny ones. Eventually I'll sell/donate/adopt out a lot of them (fingers crossed) but I'm worried about having to get yet another large tank. ergh?!
  10. Hi all, My nursery is overflowing with babies growing at 3 different speeds so I need to convert my middle school tank into another nursery of the slightly larger babies. Last night I saw one baby's poop the size of another baby! Are these other 'little' ones big enough to go in general pop with their parents and NOT get eaten??? <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid6.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy230%2FEccoBell%2FFishies%2Faretheybigenough.mp4">
  11. Did you manage to get the eggs fertilized? I tried this technique once and none of the eggs made it. I was trying to go for just telelscopes since my male shubunkins are so dominant in that department.
  12. Yes he's in the .3% solution and his fins have definitely stopped rotting. Looking more like the healing process. The best part is his full motion and use of his right arm. I haven't done the 3rd salt dipping, do you think he could forgo that and move back to general pop?
  13. He seems to have been through a lot. The last 30 hours or so he's been happier than a long time. Playing in the bubbles and using all his fins. His right pectoral fin that has been clamped lately is in full consistent motion now. *sigh of relief* At least his fins aren't fraying and rotting away anymore. I don't know if there's anything more we can do for him besides finish this salt treatment because he's already been through soooo many meds and he's starting to finally look better at this point.
  14. He only lasted 10 seconds at best and that was with my fingers helping him. His tail is looking dark red near the frayed parts. Is that the healing process?
  15. The fins are still frayed I'm afraid. However they aren't continuing to unravel, so that's good. Okay, already have the .1% solution. Now to give him a new bucket with .2% Later today shall I give him his 3% saline dip?
  16. Maybe his scales aren't raised and it could just be an issue with his slime coat. Hard for me to tell. <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid6.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy230%2FEccoBell%2Fzoncheck-up.mp4">
  17. He is just bored in there but still moving around. I completely forgot to add more salts, I was so busy yesterday. Is it too late to do so? I realize I don't know how many tsp per gallon to add for increasing to .2% and .3% I lifted the bubbler out of the water and his scales kinda look a little open. My first thought was dropsy. I'll post video in a bit.
  18. Gotchya! My goodness, there is sooo much POOP! New bucket, check! Ph 7.4, check! Temp, meh... close enough. SO MUCH POOOOOOP!
  19. Oh dear. My other tanks are filled up with babies. He's been in the bucket for 5 days now. I could add a plant in there with him. If it's just another few days I suppose it'll have to be okay. I'll post video when I do another salt bath with him.
  20. <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid6.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy230%2FEccoBell%2FFishies%2Fsick%2520fish%2FSick_Zon_after_first_dip-1.mp4"> Come to think about it, there is salts in his water but I don't know how much since it was only about a 1/4 cup of the dip water that transferred with him. Thank you all for your help and support!
  21. Alex; I should've taken video of that. He flailed around for a bit and fell onto his side then repeated. After about 30 seconds he went limp so I moved in with a mini bowl to scoop him up. His tail was out limp but he couldn't move. I worried for a moment he was dead. Then put him into a bucket with no salt what so ever but prime and 7.4 ph (same ph as the dip) and he went to the bottom. I'm gonna keep an eye on him but I don't think he could handle the dip. What should I do next? Try another dip or just forget it for now? Trinket, Yes that was just to move him from qt to the main tank both with bubblers. I was afraid that if I used the net more of his fins would come off. After the dip he went back into a simple bucket with only a bubbler, no filter for now.
  22. uh... so... .1% for an hour, .3% for 5 minutes, then .1% another hour??????
