  2. I'm beginning to think that we were not to have goldfish. We seem to be having one thing after another. This time, one of the goldfish was acting a little off. He was not swimming around as much but was eating. I checked the water and everything as fine. The next morning (yesterday) I found him stuck to the filter. I quickly turned it off and got him into the hospital tank. Not seeing anything wrong except some frayed fins that I think he got from the filter, I added the first of the aquarium salt. Yesterday he was on his back and not moving at all and barely breathing. This was for 8 or so hours. Every so often he swam in the tank but he was weak. I didn't have the filter running knowing he would not handle it. I added the second round of salt yesterday. Within 3 hours of adding the second dose of salt, he started swimming normally. Today he looks completely fine. His fins are up, he's eating and he's swimming. I have not turned on the filter because I'm to worried. I want to give it a little time. I'm doing large water changes though. I have no idea what happened. Does anyone have an idea? Thank you!
  3. Sorry about not responding earlier. I need to figure out how to get updates emailed to me. Anyway, HE'S/SHE'S GREAT! I'm so happy! He's been in the 10 gallon all alone and I think he's grown. I'm not sure but he seems bigger than the other ones in the big tank. I wonder if I fed him to much of the Metro Meds and he grew. Either way, he seems healthy. The scales went back to normal soon after starting the meds. He also started swimming a lot more. Thanks so much to everyone!
  4. I'm not sure it's a boy. I call it he and my daughter calls it her. Today he is looking a tiny bit better. I don't notice the raised scales. He's not really puffy. Just a little. He started sitting a little on the bottom but not all the time. Now he's not doing that. I'll post a picture in a bit. I really hope he's ok!
  5. Thank you! The vet said there was no way to be sure since they don't have the exact numbers. They THINK he'll just have an upset stomach. He's a lab and about 68 pounds. I only gave the fish one dose of the medicine. Hopefully more will be here by Saturday. Is there any medicine I can buy at PetSmart or Petco until they get here?
  6. Do you happen to know the concentration? On the phone with vet now.
  7. Can someone please send me all the ingredients in meto meds? My dog just ate about a cup of it.
  8. Thank you. Hopefully the meds will help. I've read some bad things about Dropsy. I hope he'll be ok. I'm doing the water changes with the Epsom salt. He's eating fine and still swimming ok.
  9. You mentioned "Epsom salt at 1/4 teaspoon per 10 gallons" I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. It's not 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. Since it's a 10 gallon tank, I only put in 1/4 teaspoon? Thank you.
  10. Thank you for clearing that up. I am nervous the fish still in the 40 gallon tank will get sick since they were all together up until today.
  11. Is Epsom salt used at the same ratio as aquarium salt? 1 tsp per gallon per day for three days? Do I use Epsom salt with the 40 gallon as well? I need to run out to get Epsom salt so I can get this started.
  12. Ok, thank you. I'll start the salt now. Even though it's just on his belly, do you think it's dropsy? If so, can they survive? Also, do I treat the 40 gallon with the Metro-Meds too?
  13. The raised scales seem to be just on his belly area.
  14. I gave him some peas and he ate. I have aquarium salt and a heater (never used). I have to order the other. He's already QT in a 10 gallon tank. He's swimming more on his side now. It's getting worse since the move and before the peas. But he's swimming as opposed to floating. I can't get a good picture from behind. Here is a video.
  15. He is swimming a little on his side at times. But he's swimming. Not staying in one spot. Thank you!
  16. You can barely see the scales on his stomach. They are raised. It seems like they're just raised on his underside. He seems really bloated. He had peas about 4 days ago and skipped a feeding. Could this happen with stomach bloat? http://www.hathawaysolutions.com/images/fish/dscf6484.jpg You can also see the frayed fin.
  17. Ok, just moving him now then I'll take a picture.
  18. * Ammonia Level - 0 * Nitrite Level - 0 * Nitrate level -10 ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.0 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? * Water temperature? 70 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 40 gal * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? * How often do you change the water and how much? * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 6 days * How many fish in the tank and their size? 4 1 - 2 inches * What kind of water additives or conditioners? prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? once per day * Any new fish added to the tank? see below * Any medications added to the tank? no * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Several months ago we had an issue with the tank and lost three fish. We kept the one survivor in a 10 gallon for several months and moved him 3 weeks ago to the 40 gallon tank. We did get 3 other fish about 1 month after we had lost 3 and put them in the 40 gallon. They were separated for several months. Then 3 weeks ago we added the one survivor back to the big tank and all seemed ok. I just noticed the one we added back has raised scales. This fish looks like it has one frayed fin. We are setting up the 10 gallon again and will isolate him. They all seem to be eating well. From what I've read, I'm wondering if this is dropsy. I am going to put about 5 gallons of the water from the 40 into the 10 gallon tank and fresh water for the rest. I'm going to also do a 50% water change in the 40 gallon tank and add 1 tsp of salt per gallon once a day for 3 days in both the 10 gallon and the 40 gallon. Will this be ok if it is Dropsy? Could the stress of the move in tanks have caused this? Can I to do anything else? Thank you!
  19. Ok, thank you. I'll try that. I hope I didn't post this in the wrong spot.
  20. Just got back from vacation for about 8 days. We had a pet sitter who fed the fish every other day. One is swimming sometimes normal and other times on it's side or upside down. Just gave them some peas. is the video, it's not very good. The other two seem fine. I do not want to do a water change because we were out of town and are on a well. I'd like to wait a few days to be sure nothing has built up in the water. Any help is appreciated! Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level - 0 * Nitrite Level - 0 * Nitrate level - 10ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) - 8.2 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. - only Prime * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? nothing unusual. Their fins are all up and they are eating. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? no bottom sitting. The only unusual behavior is the one that is swimming funny.
  21. What is the best way to go on vacation for 10 days when you have goldfish? What types of feeders have people used with success and which to avoid? Thank you!
  22. That's funny becuase I did the same thing the other day. I was in such a panic I did not make sense at times. Everything happened so fast. I remember reading your first post when you told me I was doing everything I could and I was crying. You were very comforting. Thank you so much for everything. I never imagined losing them all like that and so fast.
