  1. I will be able to test the params in the morning, so I will post those as soon as I can. I last treated him with PimaFix maybe a month or so ago. As for his gills, his right gill looks completely normal. It is only the left gill affected by this. There seems to be a lot of extra tissue in there; red and white in colour. The red parts are closer to the outside (and the part coming out of his gill), and they seem to be hanging off of the white parts. This is what the growth looked like the first time he had it, after it fell off: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05075.jpg It is looking similar to that inside of his gill. I'm also wondering if it had anything to do with the addition of the new fish. I had an issue with that... I had set up my QT tank for the new guy, had him in there for about a week, then went up to my cottage for the weekend. Got a very angry phone call from my dad the second day; my QT tank filter had leaked and about 5 gallons of water had spilled all over the floor (it soaked through the wood floor, down into his office, ruined a lot of important stuff.... HUGE mess ) and my dad had to move the QT tank outside. He took the new fish out, and put him in a big bowl of fresh water, didn't add anything to it. I got home as soon as I could, but the poor guy was in the bowl overnight with no aeration or anything. The water was cloudy and dirty, and I had nothing else to put the poor guy in, and no other filter since that one had leaked (I think it was due to a power outage). Anyway, long story short, I had to just dump him into my 38 gallon with Eugene after only a week of QT. Perhaps that could be the problem, be it flukes or something else. Both fish seem to be very happy, perfectly normal behaviour. And like I said, I'll post the params in the morning. I'll look into gill hyperplasia. Thanks Alex
  2. Here is a video I was just able to take. Still haven't been able to check the water params I did change the water recently though, so I'm assuming good conditions. http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/?action=view&current=M4H05318.mp4
  3. Hey guys. Some of you may remember my black moor Eugene. In June, he had suddenly grown a large red lump right out of his gill, and it fell off days after it appeared. Here's my original post about it, with links to pictures: http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/100429-big-red-thing-coming-out-of-gill/page__p__1233854#entry1233854 Well, today, the same thing seems to be happening. He has a red growth coming out of his gill. It is actually stopping his gill cover from closing all the way and I can see inside. It is awful! The inside of his gill is completely different looking. Its lumpy and red and white. I'm so worried for him, I have no idea what it is. I can't for the life of me get a picture (hence the link to the old pictures). A few days ago, Eugene had dropped a few scales off his side. They were just lying on the bottom of the tank (it's bare bottom). There's not really anything he could have injured himself on; the only things in the tank are an airline tube, a round glass fishbowl with a plant, and the filter intake tubes. He had suffered from Dropsy a few months ago, so I don't know if this could possibly be something relating to that, or to the meds he was on. This is the second time he's had a weird lump, but this time, the inside of his gill is atrocious. I wish I could get a photo. Has anyone ever had this happen? What could it be? I'm not posting in 911 because it is a recurring issue, but I really hope someone can help me out quick! I will admit, I slacked off and didn't do a water change for a couple of weeks, so perhaps the water wasn't in the best condition, but I cleaned the tank either Tuesday or Wednesday (so 3 or 4 days ago), and this just popped up today. It wasn't there today. Also, I haven't had an opportunity to test the water because I just got home from work, spotted it, and came on here to ask for help. I'll update this ASAP with my water params. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level (tank): will test shortly * Nitrite Level (tank) * Nitrate level (Tank) * Ammonia Level (Tap): * Nitrite Level (Tap) * Nitrate level (Tap) * Ph Level, (Tank) (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, (Tap) (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? aquaclear 50 and tetra whisper 45 * What kind of water additives or conditioners? 4. Thanks stakos. I will definitely try that. I'll check out his gills in the morning when the lighting is better. I was planning on putting him back in the big tank, but I guess I'll put that on hold for now. Yikes, a tumor... poor Eugene. First dropsy, then this. Thanks for looking into it for me
  5. I'll definitely do that. He's still in the QT tank, so it's even easier to clean than my big tank. I'll keep an eye on him. So bizarre though!
  6. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking! also, I'd say the whole thing is about 1cm long
  7. He is acting completely normal. I can't see a single sign of ANYTHING out of the ordinary. From the outside, his gill looks fine. I don't know if I can check the inside or anything? I've never really done that before, aside from trying to catch a glipse when he breathes. Is there another way to do it? Here are close up photos of the thingie. The red part is what I could see hanging out of him. http://i29.photobuck...89/DSC05075.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05078.jpg Sorry, my camera was having a hard time focusing on it...
  8. Well, weird update for you guys. The red thing has completely fallen off of Eugene. It is attached to a white chunk, and it is just rolling around on the bottom of the tank at the moment. What on earth could it have been? Do you think something else will happen to him because of this? *sigh* I'll upload a picture of it soon. Wish I had my microscope still so I could look at it, but I don't think I'll be getting it back ever...
  9. It may have been there a little longer, but I always look at him to make sure he's doing okay, and it does seem like something that would be really hard for me to miss. There is nothing in the tank as it is my QT tank (aside from the filter). I will test for nitrates and pH soon, but I'm just leaving for work. I'll post the results as I have them. I will also take a better video with a light on. It does like kind of cauliflower-ish, with a couple little white spots on it. I don't think its gill, but I dont know for certain because I've never really had any gill related issues with any of my fish in the past decade... It doesn't seem to be affecting him though. He's swimming around like normal, eating his food, being active. His fins look good, he's not showing any signs of stress or anything. I'll update you guys as to his condition when I get home tonight!
  10. Here's a video: http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/?action=view&current=M4H05072.mp4 Like I said, this thing wasn't on Eugene yesterday. Just popped up overnight. I'm really concerned It's coming right out of his gill.
  11. * Ammonia Level 0 * Nitrite Level 0-ish * Nitrate level didn't test * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? drops * Water temperature? 74 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 10 gal QT tank (had him in there before because he was pineconing, he recovered but I couldnt put him back in the main tank because Wendal was sick in it, Wendal passed away the other day and I haven't had a chance to do a big huge full clean of the big tank..) * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? tetra whisper EX45 * How often do you change the water and how much? 50% a couple times a week * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? few days ago, 50% * How many fish in the tank and their size? I did an epsom treatment a while ago, that's long gone out of the tank though. Eugene was eating metronidazole gel food while sick before. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? big red thing hanging out of gill. otherwise, completely normal and healthy looking * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? nope
  12. sorry for the terrible pictures, Eugene is a very wiggly fish.... And it is definitely coming out of his gill, I was able to get a better look. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05067.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05066.jpg What is this?? Does anyone know? What do I do
  13. Hey guys, I'm so completely frustrated right now. I know most of you know what happened with Wendal. Well now, something else is happening to my other fish Eugene. He was fine yesterday. I got home from work today and went to feed him, and he's got this big red growth thing dangling out of the bottom of his gill (at least I think it is... either that or right in front of his fin down there...) My camera is dead, so I'm charging it right now so I can take a picture. I have no idea what this is or where it came from. Ugh. I'll get a photo ASAP.
  14. I think I will do that, put him by some flowers. I will have to do that when I get home, however... I'm leaving for a visitation for my grandad right now, and his funeral is tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's help and kind words. You've really made this easier for me.
  15. ugh sorry to say, but Wendal didn't make it... He was moving around a bit, and I set up the syphon to clean the tank, came back, and he's no longer alive This sucks and on a side note, I don't really know what to do with him now, he's a pretty big fish...
  16. Thanks guys Wendal is doing a little worse this morning He's got a bit of white fuzzy growth on his wen, and a small red spot on it too. I don't think the lowered water level is helping him at all, so I'm just going to clean the tank and fill it back up to the top, at least that will keep that water quality a bit better. Should I add any pimafix or anything like that?
  17. This poor fishy. I'll grab some metro as soon as I can. Epsom is in already, tank is at about 78 degrees. *sigh* I wonder if he'll ever get better. Thanks for the help
  18. Uh oh, bad news Wendal is pine coning. He's really not doing well. I guess I'll add epsom salt to the tank. I'm heading out now and I wont be back for a little while, I have no time to change the water now, but I just did yesterday. Oh gosh poor guy. Why does this keep happening?? Should I get more metronidazole from the vet and start ANOTHER round of that stuff?
  19. Okay made a big batch of gel food, and he gobbled up a whole bunch!
  20. Okay. I can do that. Should I make up a batch of non-medicated gel food? Or should I just stick to spinach and peas and things like that?
  21. I just fasted him for a few days over the weekend (I was away, so I figured it was alright timing to do a fast). I came back last night, and he was on his side again, with red streaks in his tail! The streaks had just faded away recently too. The water is at about 78 degrees. Just about to do a water change now. I don't know if the lowered water level has been helping Wendal at all. He hasn't been on his side today, just upside down. *sigh* This is definitely the longest on-going problem I've ever had with a fish.
  22. Uh oh..... I had rigged something up to hold something in place in my filter, and it has been leaking! I don't know how long, but probably at least a week... The water pooled on the ground, mainly behind my tank. I have wood floors, so the floor is ruined! It affected the floor boards even in front of the tank. It even soaked through and was dripping in the basement (on top of a bunch of my dad's expensive collectable stuff). This is soooo not good... has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to fix this floor?? I've got fans and a hair dryer blowing on the ground, both from above, and below in the basement. Eeek...!! I'm worried it might have messed with the structural integrity of the floor...
  23. Well, Wendal isn't floaty anymore, which is good I think. But he's been upside on the bottom constantly now. It doesnt seem like lowering the water level has helped at all....
  24. Well, today Wendal is back to being sinky. He's upside down on the bottom again. Occasionally floating at the top, but mostly at the bottom.
