  1. They seem to be doing better today, completely ignoring each other right now. I hope they become friends!!
  2. I hope that's all it is. I'm so worried for Eugene, ugh. I know Eugene is male for sure. I'm not sure about Gill though.
  3. Hey guys, I'm just writing this from my boss' phone at work since my mom is texting me about problems in my tank. I just introduced Gill to my main tank last night (just took him out of QT), and Eugene was absolutely thrilled to have a new friend finally. This morning, however, I noticed Gill was sort of picking at Eugene, nipping at his sides and tail a bit. Apparently now, it has gotten a lot worse and Eugene is looking very stressed. I'm going to separate them once I get home, but I don't know what to do after that! I need them to get along, I can't keep Gill in the QT tank forever... What can I do?? Should I get a tank divider, will that maybe let them get to know each other a bit better? I feel so bad for Eugene, especially with his tumor and also because he lost his best friend recently. It was so sweet when I put them together at first. Eugene went right over to Gill and started swimming in his tail and being so gentle, just like New Guy used to do to Eugene. What can I do? I need to help my poor sweet fish...
  4. I tried to get a photo of the organism I found in Gill's poop, but my camera wouldn't focus on it. This is the closest thing I could find on the internet though: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xewmYRScOXs/TsB0XWoURMI/AAAAAAAAAAU/OyIKyJOP6is/s1600/Euchlanis+sp.jpg
  5. Just did a scrape, I didn't find ANYTHING at all. Not one single little organism. What I did find though, was that when I did a little scrape on Gill, he (obviously) got stressed and was hanging out near the bottom, but then I saw this layer of... I don't even know, not normal fish slime, but something, kind of clear-ish milky-ish, start peeling off of him, especially on his dorsal fin. And his colour instantly went from shiny orange-gold to a dull red-orange. Also looked at a bit of poop under the microscope. Nothing unusual there. Actually, far fewer things there than in Eugene's poop. And the only two little things I found in there were the exact same things I found in Eugene's poop. What strikes me as odd is the very VERY small amount of poop in Gill's tank. I do have a powerful filter on there (240 GPH, and its a 10 gallon tank), so is that maybe sucking up all the poop? If that were the case though, I'm sure it would be sucking up the bits of pea skin that Gill spits out from the gel food, but that remains at the bottom of the tank. So, next to no poop, with next to no microorganisms, and a scrape of his slime with ZERO results. What is going on my with fish?!
  6. Okay! Do I need to change the water first, or can I start treatment right away (people are asleep in my house now, so no more water changes tonight..)?
  7. I just realized that I still have some PraziPro left from last time I got a new fish; should I treat the tank with that?
  8. Just about to change the water now, and I notice that one of his eyes is looking a little bit cloudy. And for some reason, little tiny bubbles are collecting on that one eye, but not the other (possibly from the bubble wall). Don't know what's going on with him...
  9. Thanks for the response Helen. I did put some new big river rocks in the tank, and that seemed to perk him up for a couple of days. Poor guy won't even hold his dorsal fin straight up, he's just kind of letting it hang to the side a bit. I've got a new fish in QT right now, so if that all goes smoothly, at least he'll have a new friend. I've been keeping the water clean, and just trying to keep him happy. I'll keep updating with any changes though.
  10. Hey guys, My moor Eugene has had a tumor growing on his gill for a while. He's had it twice before; the first time, it fell off, and the second time it just shrunk back until it was gone. This time, its been here a lot longer than it was before. It's quite big and it seems like it bothers him sometimes. When I checked on him this morning, he was very unresponsive, and he wouldn't actually move until I put my hand in the tank to scoop him up and get a closer look at the tumor. I don't know if there is anything I can do for him; anything to make it go away faster or to never come back again? Here is a picture that I took of it a few days ago (it has gotten bigger since then though, although not too significantly) http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06038.jpg I'm also wondering if he's maybe depressed? The other fish I had in my tank (they were best friends, inseperable!) recently died of dropsy, within the span of two days. Poor Eugene, what can I do to help??
  11. Thanks Narny, super detailed!! I'll try that for sure
  12. I haven't started to salt yet. I didn't have time last night after the water test (needed to make sure everything was in order before I could salt). I'm doing a water change tonight, then I'll start to salt after that. How much should I salt? Haven't done this in a while! Also, how do I do a scrape like that? I've never tried anything like that before!
  13. I just tested the QT tank water: Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5-10 pH: between 7.5-8.0 Also, I tested the tap water, with the following results: Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: less than 5 pH: 7.5 Gill seems to be doing very well. His colour is better and he is more shiny than he was at the store. I have the QT tank in the kitchen, so my mom is always there with him; she absolutely adores him! She feeds him the gel food I made, and he comes and eats it right off her finger. I really hope there's nothing wrong with him... His tilt is very minor, and it looks to be toward the side with no gill cover, so I don't know if he might just be a little off balance? Is there something I could look at under a microscope? I have a stereoscope with up to 60x magnification. It's nothing fancy, but it sure makes things a whole lot bigger! I can't wait to get the little guy in my main tank with Eugene!
  14. Yes, I can test the water, and I will as soon as I get a chance. What I mean though, is that whatever caused this happened BEFORE I got him from the store, so knowing what my water params are won't exactly tell you much about why he's behaving like that. I know I need to know the water params before I can proceed with any treatment, but I just want to know what could have caused this, as I've never seen it before in any of my fish.
  15. He's been doing this since the instant i brought him home yesterday (while he was still in the bag of water from the store). I don't have test results for that water. I'll get a video as soon as I can.
  16. Hi guys! I brought home a new fish yesterday, and I've got him in his QT tank. His name is Gill! He is missing a gill cover. Now, I didn't notice this in the store, but as soon as I got him home, I saw him tilting slightly; not swimming straight up and down. He leans a little bit to the side (both sides). I don't really know what could be causing this in him; I've never had a fish tilt before. He seems generally healthy. He is very active, loves to eat, and is already interacting with whoever happens to be near his tank. He has a very faint red streak in his tail (I noticed that at the store, a few others had it too...) but I just figured it was from stress or poor water quality. Any thoughts or ideas? I don't have any test results for the tank. It is new water, with a filter from my main tank on it. The only thing I put in the tank is Prime, and its 10 gallons.
  17. Thanks guys!! And okay, I'll do that, thanks!!
  18. I brought Gill home last night, and got him set up in his iso tank. I fed him some of my homemade gel food (I've never seen a fish eat as quickly as him, he loved it!) I fed him more this morning. He is looking great! His colour is way better than it was at the store already! He was kind of dull looking before, now he's shiny and beautiful! One thing I'm a little concerned about though; he's tilting a little bit to the side. Just a little bit, and not all the time. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with his missing gill cover? He seems to be leaning toward that side, so I'm not sure! Anyway, here are a few pictures! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06007.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05995.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05996.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC05999.jpg Also, here are a couple of Eugene. He's such a pretty fish! I've also included a couple of his weird, recurring gill tumor. This is the third time it has come back. The first time, it fell off, and the second time, it just shrunk and went away. Waiting to see what it does this time. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06032.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06026.jpg His tumor: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06014.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC06038.jpg So many pictures! Hehe. Couldn't pick just one
  19. Well, turns out, I just went and adopted the little guy missing the gill cover. And I've named him Gill Pictures to follow (I'm in the midst of studying for finals right now....... oh so much to do!)
  20. Ooooh decisions, decisions! I contacted Steve at Rain Garden, turns out he doesn't ship to Canada (he said though that sometimes people will get them shipped close to the border and then just drive over and pick it up... I don't know if I could do that though). Well, either way, I'll definitely be sharing some photos when I get my new fishie!!
  21. Nope, just one of them. I would have taken a picture, but my phone is broken so I can't... *sigh* Hmmm... its something to think about. I've been all over the place trying to find the perfect new goldie (poor Eugene is all alone now), but I'm just not having any luck. Found a really cute little guy on Rain Garden, but I don't know if they'll ship here. Plus I don't exactly have an extra $100 lying around right now (look at him though, oh my gosh!!! http://www.raingarden.us/9006c.JPG )
  22. Hey guys! Well, im looking around to get a new fish, and i found this poor sweet ryukin who is completely missing his gill cover. You can see all the insides of his gill. It looks like he was born like that. Im just wondering about everyone's opinion on this... i kinda want to save the little guy, but would this cause him a lot of problems? Maybe like making him more prone to disease or infection...?
  23. Hi guys, sorry to say New Guy didn't make it through the night Poor sweet thing... Now Eugene is swimming around looking frantically for him.. Thank you for your help and advice, I so appreciate it. You guys are amazing.
