  1. Okay, thanks so much guys. I'll try my best to find what I need, if I can't, I'll be ordering online but I don't know how long that will take to get here.... I'll keep you all posted on Eugene's recovery!
  2. Thanks for the help Haley! tithra, room temperature is in the 70's. I'll hopefully be going to my LFS either tomorrow or the next day. I read somewhere that Maracyn Two can treat for dropsy as well, and I know my LFS carries this. If I can't mind metronidazole, will this do? Also, just set up my QT, got the filter on it, added some prime and the epsom salt. Should I just go ahead and put Eugene in now, or should I wait a little while before I do that? Thanks guys!! I hope I can help him!
  3. Also, I'm not too familiar with metro. Could you tell me a bit about it? And how fast does mops.ca ship, how high are shipping costs? I'm a little broke right now so... ugh!
  4. The Aquaclear filter I have runs 270 GPH and the Tetra Whisper runs 240 GPH. The main tank is 38 gallons with only Eugene and one other fish. My QT tank is 10 gallons, and the only heater I have have is 300 watts. I've tried it out before and even on the lowest setting, it is far too powerful for that small of a tank...
  5. Alright, I'll seperate Eugene into a QT tank. Should I just take one of the filters from my main tank to use on the QT? I suppose that would make it less of a shock for Eugene? Also, I don't have a heater that is the right size for my QT tank will it still start to work with just room temperature water until I can get a new heater? Thanks guys.
  6. I do have a QT tank I can set up, but I'm concerned about my main tank. As I said, I had another fish in there that suffered from Dropsy and didn't make it, a little while back, so I'm afraid that there's something wrong with my main tank. Would it be better to treat the whole tank? And I'm not sure about the metro meds. I can call my LFS, but I used to work there, and I never saw anything like that there... Will try my best though. Thanks.
  7. Here's some photos I just took of him http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04662.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04658-1.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04666.jpg
  8. Hi guys. Ugh nothing but problems with my fishies lately :'( I think Eugene has dropsy. He was looking a little floaty the other day, and I've just been giving my guys some peas (Wendal has been having swim bladder issues as well). I went out for a couple of days, had someone continue with the pea feeding. I just came home, and now Eugene has pine coned He is very very bloated and round, and his colouration isn't as vibrant as before. I've never ever had a problem with Eugene before. I just lost my Ryukin Cow the other month to dropsy. I don't know what is happening in my tank what can I do??? Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level: 0 * Nitrite Level: 0 * Nitrate level: between 10 and 20 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines): 7.5-ish * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? : Nutrafin drops * Water temperature? : room temp (no heater) about 22 celcius * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? : 38 gallons, been running for years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? : Aquaclear 50 and Tetra Whisper EX45 * How often do you change the water and how much?: Weekly about 30% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? : about 5 days ago, 30% * How many fish in the tank and their size? : 2, both about 5 inches with tail * What kind of water additives or conditioners? : Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? : Usually Omega One sinking pellets almost every day, but they've just been on peas the past couple days * Any new fish added to the tank? : No * Any medications added to the tank? : No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. : Haven't treated for anything in over a year * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? : Pineconing, bloating * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Hard time swimming, looks less alert.. Please help I don't wanna lose another one......
  9. Oooh, java moss, interesting idea! Heheh. Don't worry, I'll post a pic of the tank in a little while. I'm just heading out now though! Thanks for the suggestions guys
  10. I've got this air curtain/bubble wall thing: http://c1.f3images.com/IMD/250/HG10997/Hagen-Air-Curtain-Air-Diffuser-47-inch-Long-99.jpg And it works wonders! I love it. Well, at least I did while I had gravel to hide it in. Now that I've gone bare bottom, I have this huge long, brightly coloured tube going all through my tank and it is just ugly Does anyone have any suggestions to make it look prettier (or blend in more)? Or should I just go out and find a black one or something..?
  11. I used to work at that store, and lemme tell you... if it says Topfin on it..... its crap. Good call on the biomax though
  12. Okay, so..... I've got my 38 gallon with my two goldies in it! I've got all the old gravel out now. I have new gravel (natural-ish colours and black) but I'm very undecided if I want to use it! Originally, I was thinking of using this new gravel, and use lots of big rocks and drift wood, and make a really pretty planted tank! Now I've been looking at a bunch of pictures of tanks that you guys have posted, and I think I'm starting to lean toward a more simple approach, mostly bare bottom with my piece of driftwood (I already have it in there with a bunch of java ferns growing on it), and maybe a little glass container with a bit of gravel (or river rocks) with maybe one other nice big plant growing out of it. I just can't decide though! And I think I need a new background! Anyone with a bare bottom tank, can you tell me a bit about it? I've never had bare bottom in all the years I've been keeping fish. What are your thoughts and opinions? Oh yeah! One other idea I had was black gravel, black background, and tons of bright green plants, but then I thought.... Eugene is a black moor.... I'd never be able to see him! Hmmm.....
  13. Well, just finished my tests with the drops. Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0-ish (between 0 and 0.1) Nitrate: between 10-20 (closer to 10) pH: between 7-7.5 I spoke with someone that used to work at the LFS I worked at (she's now at the other location), she suggested to maybe treat for septicemia because of the blood streaks in the tail, but I'm not sure of that. I do have some medicated fish food that treats septicemia, but it would probably just end up making Wendal more floaty. Anyway, I do suppose I will go steam some veggies for my guys. Do I just put them on a veggie clip? Maybe I'll give them some frozen bloodworms (or glassworms, or spirulina bloodworms) hmmm.....
  14. Okay, so just got back from the LFS. They only do the tests with strips, so that's pretty inaccurate, but I can at least tell you my ammonia and nitrites are 0 (or close to zero...) but my nitrates are elevated. I ended up getting a test kit of my own (drops, woo!) so I'll be doing a more accurate test in the morning, and I'll let you guys know whats going on. The test kit is for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and pH.
  15. Thanks for the veggie advice!! i'll try that all out for sure (i don't have a microwave though, so i'll just use the stove!) I'm taking a water sample to my LFS tonight, so I'll post that stuff as soon as I have the info! Wendal seems a litte better today still, except I'm really concerned about the red streaks. I'll keep everyone updated!
  16. Okay guys, thanks for the replies. I was away for a few days, so I had my mom looking after Wendal. He seems to be just sitting on the bottom more, rather than lying on his side now, which I assume is a good thing. However, it seems he has developed more red streaks in his tail. I will be bringing in a water sample to my LFS tomorrow evening to get tested, and I may even buy a new test kit (I had one but it expired a while ago...) if I have enough money. stakos, I have been slowly removing the gravel over the past while, theres about 30% of it left in there, but I guess I'll scoop it all out (I just didnt to disrupt the BB in the tank) tomorrow when I do a water change. How do you guys prepare your veggies? I would like to know the best way to do it so I can keep trying with them. Thanks for everyone's help! <3
  17. I've tried to feed my guys veggies on numerous occasions. They have absolutely no interest in it...... I guess thats a good thing for the plants in my tank, but ugh!!
  18. Here's two videos of what he's kind of been doing. Like I said though, he perked up a bit when I was doing this. http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/?action=view&current=M4H04563.mp4 http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/?action=view&current=M4H04553.mp4
  19. I'm just uploading the photos and video now. He's not resting in a C shape, just seems to be bottom sitting and then kind of tipping over. He ate a little yesterday because it fell right in front of his face. His wen may be getting in the way of his eyes now, so I guess I've got to do something about that sometime... I haven't seen him poop lately, but there's been more poop in the tank than usual. I'm not sure if its Eugene's poop or Wendal's, but its bigger than average, and longer. And it doesn't look all that great either (there's the occasional piece floating around that is kinda puffy and gross looking, not normal). I turned on the light when I went to take the pictures, and he perked right up for a moment, swam around a little, acted normal for a minute, and then started lying on his side or just bottom sitting. I reached my hand in the tank to fix one of the filter intakes and he immediately swam to me and bumped into my hand (all the way across the tank). Anyway, the pictures are uploaded, still working on the video, I'll post that when it's done. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04555.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04557.jpg here's the top view: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04561.jpg and you can see the read streaks all through his tail in this one: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/goldfishgirl89/DSC04565.jpg
  20. Thanks for the reply. I'll go take some pictures now. I won't be able to get my water tested until at least the middle of the week. Theres no LFS's anywhere near my house (since the one I worked at closed down because the lease was up...), but I will bring a water sample next time I am able to get to a store.
  21. Hey everyone, My oranda Wendal is having a very hard time. I believe he had SBD but its gotten so bad recently, I have no idea what to do. Just in the past couple days, he's been lying on his side (he used to just bottom sit and have a hard time swimming up). Now he can barely swim at all. He struggles to move anywhere, and just gives up. His tail is full of red streaks. I've kept the light off lately (or only turned it on for a short amount of time) to perhaps help with the stress. My other fish is doing absolutely fine. I did a water change 2 days ago, and the water is in great condition. I don't have a test kit, and don't have access to one for a while... Test Results for the Following: I don't have a test kit right now * Ammonia Level * Nitrite Level * Nitrate level * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? * Water temperature? : about 21C (70-ish F) * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? : 38 gallon, been running for years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? : aquaclear 50 and tetra whisper 45 * How often do you change the water and how much? : weekly, about 30-40% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change?: 2 days, about 30% * How many fish in the tank and their size? : 2, both about 5 inches including tail * What kind of water additives or conditioners? : mainly Prime (I occasionally use aqua plus and cycle) * What do you feed your fish and how often? : omega one sinking pellets (daily), frozen bloodworms and other frozen foods (rarely) * Any new fish added to the tank?: no * Any medications added to the tank? : no * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? : red streaks in tail * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? : was sitting on the bottom, now he's lying on his side on the bottom, having a very hard time swimming, not eating as much anymore as he doesn't even see the food, once in a while he puts in a huge effort, swims right to the top, and immediately drops like a rock to the bottom. I really hope this is enough info for someone to help us I know I don't have test kit results, but in the past, my water has been almost always perfect, and I really haven't changed anything I've been doing, so I'm assuming that the water condition is good. The plants in my tank look healthy, the water is clear. *sigh* I really want to fix Wendal...!
  22. They do get some natural light, as well as... ummm... I think it's called Flora-Glo fluorescent lighting. I'm not too worried now about colours, as my oranda is just orange (always has been) and my moor is having no trouble keeping his black colour. I'm just thinking for the future!
  23. dnalex, i feed them Omega One sinking pellets, don't think it has colour enhancement in it. I used to feed them a food with colour enhancement, but I haven't noticed a change at all with that. and ashlee, lol I used to have that problem, until I got Eugene (my black moor); I've had him for... hmmm about a year and a half I think, and he's still exactly the same colouration as when I first bought him.
  24. I would love a beautiful Panda Oranda Like this guy! http://static.flickr.com/83/207636158_2d53a55f40_m.jpg Or any panda coloured fish! hehe they're just too cute!
  25. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem? Any time I've ever had a beautiful red and white fish, the colour always just turns orange. The white turns orange, the red turns orange. Is there any way to help keep those beautiful colourings?
