  1. Awesome, thank you! I have a 300g rubbermaid tub and a large part of the yard for 'my plant area' and would love to incorporate a pond set up like this. Do you have a thread on the build and filter set up?
  2. Any update on this amazing pond? I love everything about it!
  3. It's not just covers tho.. I left a large net on the edge of our pond one evening... and we found a dead frog in the net at the bottom the next afternoon. I felt terrible!!!!
  4. I've not been home all day to test the params. My lfs guru says it is most likely a bacterial infection causing the eye issues... he's not sure about the mouth but hopefully this treatment will help.. I got KanaPlex, Brackish Salt & Atison's Betta Spa. Will do a 30% water change then add the meds & stuffs. Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
  5. **Nygel has been in this tank for at least 9/10 months now. Hubby tells me yesterday that he noticed Nygel’s eyes look silver. What? Ok, you know how you always say he is a dragon scale, which is why he has that cool silvery look? Well it looks like that silvery color is spreading over his eyes now, I noticed that a few days ago... Oh and I forgot to tell you that his mouth looks swollen too. WHAT?!?! - That’s how I was informed of this issue yesterday. Lol. I tried to include all info I thought was important… This pic is from early October. Housing What size is your tank? 10g What temperature is your tank? Not sure Does your tank have a filter? Aquaclear 20 Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No Is your tank heated? Yes What tank mates does your betta fish live with? 2 otos, unknown number of mts. The mts have been in since the beginning of October. Otos were in there before the betta. Food What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Omega One pellets, bloodworms. How often do you feed your betta fish? 1-2 pellets at night Maintenance How often do you perform a water change? Every few weeks as the tank is in a very hard to reach location. I was actually going to break it down, rescape it and move it to an easier to reach location… Now I am waiting to find out what I need to do for Nygel. What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 25-50%, will be able to change much more often once it is in the new location. What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Prime Symptoms and Treatment How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Eyes look cloudy/silver, Mouth is very swollen. How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Acting normal. When did you start noticing the symptoms? Hubby noticed a few days ago. Just brought to my attention yesterday evening. Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No Does your fish have any history of being ill? He had no tail when I got him, but it grew back beautifully. I never treated with anything other than a good environment & consistent diet. How old is your fish (approximately)? He was full grown when I acquired him about a year ago from a pet store. These pics are from yesterday evening.
  6. This is a super old thread but thought I would post an update... I recently set up a Fluval 306 canister filter - which is amazing!! Have taken down the ac 20 hob but left the ac 70 running w/ 2 smaller sponges & a big philodendron plant in it. All my old media went into the canister. Still have the black tms, same heater & light set up. The original plants didn't work out.. Have had only the big rock w/ the anubias on it forever.. But I just added more rocks & anubias. They are just way to destructive for other plants.. My big white goldie passed away last week. I'm sad but relieved. She was so floaty and it was so stressful to see her struggling all the time. My other 2 are fat and happy as can be. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  7. OMG! Sorry for hundreds of posts... I'm feeling like brain is jumping all over the place today... I did ask them about the NLS and she said that their distributor told hem that the company isn't going to be making it anymore and that they even checked the booth when they were at the big expo a few months ago and were told pretty much the same thing. Its currently not available as they might atop making it.. Whatever. Hopefully my fancy finned kids like the OmegaOne.
  8. This place is awesome w/ their betta selection. Besides the dumbo they also had a mustard gas (WHAT!) and a black crowntail. There were a few others but those were the memorable ones!! All great quality and very fiesty!! The way we love them!! Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  9. But... I still WANT him.. Lol Look at those ears... ;-* Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  10. Ashley!! Stop it!! Lol Unfortunately I have to be responsible... I am at max capacity right now.. I have 2 in small planted tanks, 1 in a 10g planted - we call that one the amazon jungle tank, and one is in a big 2g turtle kinda bowl cause his tank was really old.. So until he gt back into an established tank I feel like it wouldn't be fair to them. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2

  12. Well that certainly makes it easier.. I ended up getting OmegaOne Betta Pellets. The fish store lady recommended it. Said she prefers it for the main staple diet, that its higher protein too. So we'll see how they do on it On a side note - I think I'm a betta hoarder. I currently have 4... And they had a dumbo there today!! OMG!! I want him. But have nowhere for him so I left w/ out him. But I still WANT him. Lol Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  13. I'll have to see what kind the lfs has. I only saw 1 kind and just read the brand not the formula it was in a tiny bottle compared to the one in the link. Cause my guys are all older.. Like over a year. We've had Ruby Rodd for 2yrs now. He's starting to slow down a bit and has lost some of his color lately. Can this food be too high protein? I've just had a liver scare w/ my toy breed as we've learned high protein causes liver issues in toy breeds... So thankfully its all been all food related but I'm not gonna be taking the betta's to the fishie doctor. Lol Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  14. Sweet! Thanks for the info!! I'll be stopping by to grab the Atison's tomorrow then. I'll most likely switch them to it immediately. I've had the Hikari for awhile anyways.. Time for something new!! Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
  15. Is the Atison's best for breeding then? Does it matter? Cause I've only got 4 boys. Lol. I also couldn't find anything online about the NLS not being available anymore. I'm going to call the lfs again tomorrow and ask about it. If not then I'm sure I could find it online. I always prefer to support my little fav local stores first. 16. I'm currently feeding Hikari betta pellets. I've tried to get the New Life Spectrum but my lfs tells me they can't order it right now as they are probably gonna stop making it.. So I'm now on the hunt for a new pellet food. I've been happy w/ the hikari but there was some chatter a few months ago that the formula has changed and isn't as good now. I give the bettas a tiny pea piece once a week and they get frozen thawed bloodworms and shrimp at least once a week; sometimes twice. The lfs carries hikari, atisons (which I've never seen before) and some other common brands seen everywhere. Suggestions? Thank you!! Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2

  18. I sent you a pm. ;-) - At first they told me that they receive a report on water quality. Monthly and don't have a record of any issues so far... I was like 'Ok, so where do you get the report from? What is something happened and you haven't been made aware of it yet? Who do I talk to that actually deals with the water quality and testing?' She was really surprised that I didn't want to just take her word for it. Lol. So I was transferred a few times and finally got 'the head chemist'. He was really nice, complimented me on how great of a fish owner I was. Lol!! Apparently other than the amount of water I'm changing I am doing a fantastic job.. Lol he also said not to double dose on the Prime.. Is that true? Cause I did double dose last night. Should I redose today cause I know its only for 24hrs. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  19. Also the chemist told me that the symptoms I described really sounded like lack of oxygen more than anything else... Fav fish store doesn't open til later so I'll let ya know what they say later. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  20. The head chemist from the city of Fort Lauderdale tells me that they are currently not treating the water. He uses much more sophisticated equipment than the drop test I am using and they are not picking up any ammonia in the tap water. If I am getting a reading of ammonia its probably being picked up from the pipes before it gets to me... And sometimes the drop tests will read ammonia but its not actually ammonia, but nitrites or nitrates... And he also told me that a 70-80% water change once weekly was too much. He didn't recommend changing more than 50% at any one time. Cause that can kill my cycle of beneficial bacteria. (I'm not sure what I really got from that conversation, other than that it didn't help my real issue.) My water change schedule is fine, right guys? Ammonia readings this morning ~ Tank: 0.5-1.0 Tap: 1.0 The fishes are doing better today. Swimming much more normally. The bigger one has one spot of red streaks on her fins and is still floaty. She is also doing this thing like- not yawning but like opening her mouth - almost like she's trying to take a breath.. I don't know how to describe it but she's doing that every minute or so. The smaller one still has the cloudy eyes. I am working with a mod on this issue - didn't want you guys to think I wasn't concerned since I never posted back with an update last night. I really freaked out yesterday. That was so scary, not knowing what was wrong, then not knowing what to do.. I really appreciate everyone on this forum; for fast responses to understanding and sometimes just reading a vent session. I always like to have other peoples opinions on issues - especially others in the hobby (as I know close to nothing)!! All help is appreciated! xoxo Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk

  22. Ok... So they are back in the main tank.. Not upside down, just swimming slowly around. Sometimes tipping up but then correcting.. Seems a little disoriented and staying at the top, but still better than before. I have the filters and bubbler turned down so there isn't a lot of current going on. I did just notice that the small ones left eye is swollen!! Dnalex - remember this happened in December? You recommended that I order the MetroMeds, which I did. By the time they got here the eye had improved on its own so I never did anything other than salt to 0.1%.. It looks exactly the same now!! What the deuce?? Should I salt again? I wasn't going to add the prazi - figuring that I need to deal with the ammonia issue first. Is there any interaction between ammonia and salt? Could this night get any worse? I feel... Very disheartened right now. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  23. They are still in the small tub... I have the main tank doubled up on Prime and the filters have been running for about 10min now. I'm a little nervous to put them back in honestly. Lol. Kaori is a little more alert. She is no longer on the bottom, kinda chilling in the middle of the bin... This has been a very scary experience. Hubby feels horrible that I've been so upset... He went out to get my favorite subs for dinner. Such a sweetie... I will be testing the tap frequently. I might pick up some if the instant cycle dnalex recommended. And will definitely be calling around to find the cheapest water so I can do another big change w/ no ammonia this time... What bottled water is best? I can't afford the whole tank but at least a few gallons should help right? Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  24. I did a 100% w/c on the main tank and double dose Prime.. Which I have figured out to be 8ml. Cause its 0.1ml per gallon, 1ml per 10g, 4ml per 40g... You get it.. Kaori is up and moving around a little more. Really just floating around but at least isn't upside down.. I'm going to turn the filters down so she doesn't get tossed around when I move them back into the tank. What are my next steps here? Keep testing the water but what if it goes up? I'm already doubled up on Prime and the ammonia is from the tap so a w/c won't help.. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  25. Is there anything I can or should do to get rid of the ammonia? Like a product I should buy or even add carbon (I'm kinda grasping at straws on that one, lol). The holding tub has a bubbler, I turned it down since Kaori is struggling w/ any current right now. Since I have them out of the big tank I am going to do a 100% w/c right now. The only other new thing is a new bottle of Prime. It has little black pieces in it- which the company says can happen on their site... No I don't have well water... Kaori still isn't swimming around.. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
