  1. Lovely tank and fishies! I think I need some bubbles. Your fish looked like they are really enjoying them.
  2. Stub died on Monday. I thought I posted it, but now I don't see the post. Rest in peace Stub.
  3. The heat was from a heater. I thought I was supposed to raise the temp if the fish was sick. I took it out. I did a water change. The water is creating a splash now. Stub is mostly on the bottom, sometimes slightly sideways. He's getting thinner. Very noticable behind his gills and just before his back fin. He hasn't eaten in 4 days. I keep trying to feed him but he doesn't want food. I am at an absolute loss. I don't know what to do.
  4. The filter output is touching the water. It's a Aquatech 10-20. Stub seems to have no strength to do anything. I've cure fish of dropsy before, but Stub isn't really pineconed like the others were. It's so strange. He seems so weak and he's not eating. I used medicated food before, but since he won't eat, I've just dumped antibiotics in the tank. I'm pretty desperate to try anything at this point.
  5. Quarantine Tank [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level?0 [*]Nitrite Level?0 [*]Nitrate level?<20 ppm [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)?8.4 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)?8.4 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops?"Quick dip" strips and Ammonia drops - API brand [*]Water temperature? 76 [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 10 gallon running since yesterday [*]What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Filter isn't running right now. The mild current is too hard on Stub. [*]How often do you change the water and how much? Daily 50 percent except now that I have the antibiotic in the water, I can't do a water change. [*]how many days ago was the last water change and how much? 50% this morning [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 fish at 2 1/2 inches [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Start right when I change the water [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? I tried to give peas. Stub wouldn't eat. *]Any new fish added to the tank? No [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Still won't eat. Currently sitting on the bottom of the tank. Was floating sideways at the top. I do not have an air stone going. I'm trying to find the old air pump. I will try to get one in tonight.
  6. Stub's floating at the top now on his side.
  7. Just did a partial water change. Stub just gently swirled around. He's not even trying to swim. His gills are still moving. He's laying on his side. I put in the Maracyn-two for the dropsey. The scales are just barely raised. Almost not noticable. I just don't know.
  8. It's a very shallow pile of river rock. Just enough to hold the plants down. I need to take some photos. It was spread out when the fish were getting sick. I just piled it up when I did that extensive tank cleaning. Stub still won't eat. Still no poop. He's sitting at the bottom of the tank, but at least he's upright.
  9. Daisy May appears to have recovered beautifully. She had a cyst. I put her in QT. It burst. I fed her Jungle Brand Antibiotic food. The cyst cleared up. No dropsy. No fuss. Gertie had had dropsy a month before, recovered, then developled Popeye while Daisy May was in QT with her cyst. I've been doing big water changes and Gertie seems fine. Now Stub has taken ill. I have Mardel brand Maracyn (erythromycin is the active ingredient) and Maracyn-two (Minocycline in the active ingredient.
  10. ChrissyBee - I will rinse the filters. My tank is 2/3 bare bottom, 1/3 river rock. I keep the plants in the pile of river rock. When I clean the tank, I use my scrubber-on-a-stick to move the rocks all around and clean the glass bottom. I have three open-backed Easter Island heads made out of some clay that I'm assuming is safe for tanks because they were sold as aquarium decoration. Just tried the pea. He won't eat a pea. He just stares at it. Stub!! Captain - You have a great eye! Now that you mention it, I can see a slight raising on Stub's left side. I didn't see it before. He's a calico with some metalic scales, some very tranparent. The black looks like it's at different depths too. It wasn't until I looked at him from above with the tank hood off that I can see the scales slightly raised. I lowered the water about 2 inches. Dumb question - do I keep the filter running? It seems like a lot of current for him and he seems aggitated. He rolled over a few times slowly. I turned it off for now. He seems to be able to stay more upright than he was when I first posted. He's sitting on the bottom tipped slightly sideways. Three fish sick in the last two weeks??

[*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 5 fish...3 at 2 1/2 inches, 1 at 6 inches, 1 at 4 inches. [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Start right when I change the water [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? Gel food once a day 7 day a week. They had a small orange slice about a week ago. *]Any new fish added to the tank? No [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Tail fin might be slightly ragged. It's hard to tell because he's calico. [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Wouldn't eat this morning, sitting on the bottom of the tank, now floating. I'm trying not to be panicky, but there is something bad going on in my tank. First Daisy May had a cyst that burst two weeks ago. She's better now. While Daisy May was in QT, Gertie began to have popeye. Many water changes helped that. I removed the driftwood just in case that was making fish sick. This morning Stub wouldn't come eat his breakfast. I thought it was weird so I put him in the QT tank. I removed all fish, plants, everything from the main tank, scrubbed, and did a 100% water change. I did not rinse the filters. I put Stub in the 10 gallon QT tank with less than a teaspoon of Epsom salt. He swam a bit and rested on the bottom a bit. After lunch I check on him and found him laying on his side on the bottom of the tank. I tapped the side of the glass and he very slowly responded. He'll right himself, then tip sideways and start to float up slightly. His body is not swollen. No scales lifted. I just can't figure out what's going on with the tank and with Stub. 12. Great advice! I haven't been scrubbing with a toothbrush more than once every two months (aquarium decor...not my teeth!). The tank is pretty brown. Driftwood out. Toothbrush in. Thanks all!
  13. I didn't realize the driftwood could cause dropsy! When Gertie got sick before I mentioned that I had put new plants in the water. I didn't think about mentioning that I had them tied to aquarium driftwood. They're old pieces I haven't have in the tank for a few years and had just put them back in the tank. I'll be taking them out - just in case they're making Gertie sick. Thank you!!!
