  1. I have four goldies I need to rehome. Two orandas, a black/bronze ranchu, and a calico telesope.

The orandas are huge, the other two are slowly catching up. I currently live in SC and am going to be driving to WV. If there's anyone who would want them or be able to meet me along the way to get them I'd be eternally grateful to know my babies are going to someone who won't stick them in a bowl.

  2. I have to downsize my fish room due to personal problems as of late. I thought I would offer them here before I go somewhere else.

The fish that I have are:

    Pearl Scale (2)

Both are orange and white, bought at the same time and are still young. They are about an inch and a half long, each. One has all black eyes, I call that one Buttons and the other one Gems

    Ranchu (2)

Both have cute little wens growing on top of their heads, though I don't think they have it in their genetics to become lionheads.

    Comet (2)

Both are strong headed, good swimmers. One is a traditional orange with a long tail, the other is a BIG all white fish, except for an orange spot on his eye.

    Oranda (1)

This fish is all orange, nice wen and long fins.

I know not many koko members live near me, and it's a lot of fish to adopt out at once, but for the most part I figured there was no harm in offering. :(

    thanks for looking guys.

  3. I am assuming this "white worm" rumor is untrue, because I've heard this girl tell me wrong information on goldfish before, though at least she didn't advocate bowls for them, at least from my knowledge. (Though she DID suggest something ridiculous like 3g per goldfish.)

  4. Hey guys, has anyone else's pet store recently pulled this product? I've been to the pet store and the fancy fish store and they are no longer selling Omega One due to complaints about "misprinted nutritional information" and "white worms" from feeding the food.

I am super sad, because Hikari foods are ridiculously priced for such small bags in my opinion and I can no longer find a comparatively well made food for such a decent price. :(

  5. Here is the link for the old post. I still can't find my testing kit, so I guess I'm going to have to run to the pet store tonight.

He's doing great, other than that little pearl. :( I think the pearl is soft, because I've seen it get a little indent when he pushes it against the glass to get a better look at me. :rofl The pearl is like.. directly under the eye itself. It's almost like.. Eye ---> Oo<--- Pearl. I can't really describe it any better, and I don't think I'll be able to get a better picture without a fancy camera. XD

  6. Thanks for the help! :)

The pearl isn't a cloudy film on the eye, though. It actually looks like there's a tiny decorative pearl on the bottom of it's eye. Almost like it's a little dancer at a burlesque show. Haha. :lol I'll see if I can get some pictures asap when the light is better.

right now the nitrates are close to zero because I newly seeded the tank when I got the betta a week and a half ago.

I've tried salting to .01%, and a powdered antibiotic. I'll try the tea leaves, next. :)

  7. I'll fill out the form again, but I have a topic not too far down the list already. :) I figured this didn't need to be in the disease section, seeing as I'm only trying to look for alternative treatment methods.

Right now I can't recall where I've put my test kit.. :rofl I'll look for it and come back here.

  8. I'm using a thermometer meant for a 50g+ tank and turned it up as high as it'll go, but it wont go past 80'. It's very frustrating, because the smaller heater I have won't even go over 70'

I've never heard of tea for bettas? Is that commonly available? :o

The week is up today. :(

  9. Okay, I've been treating my betta, Poppy, for pop eye, the betta's eating actively, is interested in its (very plain) environment, and is doing generally well.

I've also been treating it with antibiotics for the past week, and though it's eye seems less swollen it still has a big "pearl" on it's eye that hasn't changed since the medication.

The packaging suggests I don't treat the fish for more than a week, and other than the pearl it's eye is no longer swollen.

Should I stop the antibiotic treatment? Should I switch to something else?

I can't get maraycn in my area, and I don't know where I'd get it online. I've seen the back of a melafix bottle state that it's okay to use for popeye..

I can try and get pictures of the "pearl," if need be.

  10. Fff the snail gods.

Sorry, but I don't think I'd have the heart to crush them. X_X I feel horrible for killing off my snails accidentally in the first place.

I'd try craigslist or even a pet shop. :o That way you may get some money from them.

  11. I actually find paw prints. LOL. My cat wouldn't dare jump up to the top, but I will quietly sneak in my room and see her propped up, both paws and nose against the glass, dreamily peering in at the fishies, who thoroughly enjoy driving her mad by swarming up to her, getting bored, and then swimming away in all directions.I can't do a water change or even feed them without her having to "help".

    Haha aw that's cute!

I've recently set up a QT tank lower to the ground level, so I'm sure I'm going to find water-paw prints leading away from the tanks soon. :rofl

  12. I've recently inherited a betta with pop eye. :(

I'm doing all I can right now, I set up a 20g tank for it with a filter, heater and bubbler, seeded it from another tank.

Ammonia: between 0 and the next color box, but I think this is just because it's just been recently seeded, the bb haven't had time to flourish yet.

    Nitrite: 0

    Nitrate: 0 (newly seeded)

    Tank pH 7.6, possibly 8

    Brand: API Freshwater Master Kit

Water temperature was around 70 last I checked, but it's been a cold morning so I turned the heater up some, waiting for the thing to do its job.

Tank size: 20g, since last night

The filter: I have no clue what it is, but I'm pretty sure it's meant to run on a 20g tank. I figure something running is better than nothing

How often: Well I just got it set up last night, so so far none. How often should I change the water if it has pop eye?

    Fish: One betta

Conditioners: I dosed the tank with Seachem's Prime (the kind we use on goldies,)

Food: I've fed the fish twice, once last night, though it seemed too distracted with adjusting to it's new life and once this morning, which it went after at least one of the pellets. The other one got really soaked and puffy, and I don't know if it got sucked into the filter or eaten.

Medications: I salted the first dose last night (1 teaspoon per gallon) I'm unsure about adding more salt.. I thought bettas didn't do so well with salt?

Unusual Findings: Just the rather gross looking "pimple" like bag under it's eye ish. Its fins look okay, a little torn from being kept in those cubes they sell in the pet store, but nothing that won't heal in time.

Unusual behavior: none, the betta swims around just fine, seems active and interested in it's environment (though it's a rather plain environment for the time being.

I've also looked for Maracyn 1 and 2 in my lfs and pet stores, but none of them seem to carry it. :( If that's the best treatment for the betta does anyone know where to buy from that's reliable, or could possibly send me some?

I'll try and get pictures up soon. I really hope this little guy/gal I've named Poppy for the time being makes it. They're a beautiful little betta. :heart

  13. I thought that maybe he needed to destress so I left him alone (other than to feed the other goldies) but it has only been a few days. :(

He's just so small I'm worried that he'll die if he doesn't eat. I don't even know if the fish store fed them!

You're probably right that he's still just stressed, seeing as he was dumped into a tank of two larger fish who could easily share him as a snack. He swims well, looks healthy, and moves freely behind the intake.. Maybe I should give him a few more places to hide.
