  3. Wow! There is something to be said for a.minimalist tank. It shows off the fish to great advantage. Thanks for sharing your beauties with us. Mj
  4. Wow! She is lovely. And frodo is tineeeeee! Good finds Here's to an uneventful qt!
  5. Great score! I look forward to seeing your progress!
  6. I would say she's 70% better. I did notice her going from bottom sitting to gulping airb( like in the video I posted) about 3 times today. And bottom sitting about 39% of the time down from 100%. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
  7. So sorry you lost him. It sounds like he had a very good life with you. Swim free Tank Jr. Mj Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
  8. I am bumping this thread because fluffy is exhibiting the same behavior...bottom sitting and swimming quickly up to the surface for air. The bottomsitting is occasional and less than it was. She had 14 days of mm's and now 1 day of JumpStart. There was a break in the middle where she fasted for 3 days while I was away. Should I do another round of mm's? Thanks ! 11. What lovelies! And they are so lucky to come live with you! mj
  12. Day 6 of MM treatment, and Fluffy has lifted off the bottom!! She's swimming around normally. I'm so happy. Will keep her on MM's for the next 8 days, and then 2 weeks of Jumpstart for everyone in the tank. Thanks for your good wishes, everyone! mj
  13. I found it in the DIY section. It said to use empty fish food containers for the floats, but I didn't have any.
  14. I'll do that when I am home but will have to leave her in the basket for the fish sitter.
  15. I'm having fun planning my next upgrade. It seems that I go about a year and then I want a bigger tank. I'm planning to buy a 75 acrylic tank in the new year and set it up bare bottom and keep the same number of fish so they can grow big and happy. However, I think that 75 gallons is a big as I can go...sweetie is already questioning those plans. Plus I feel guilty having a water based hobby in drought-ridden California. You are right...there are worse things to be addicted to. mj
  16. Weight: 8/25 12/23 Fluffy 59 53 Hercule 21 25 Jelly Bean 6 11 Emma Goldman 17 19 So there is a difference in weight change for the 4 fish. Fluffy has had some trouble with floatiness over the last few months and I've been not feeding her as much. Jelly has done the best...previously he was a bit behind the others in growth, but has really had a spurt since August.
  17. Hey all. Here is Fluffy in her DIY isolation ward. It's a big strawberry basket with two water bottles tied to it for flotation. The water does cover her up fully - it doesn't look like it in the photo however. I'll feed her in there so the other fish don't get any of the MetroMeds by mistake. She doesn't look very happy, but she scarfed up the metro med pellets. Sorry for the bubbles, I just did a big water change and it always takes a few hours for them to clear. THanks for all your good wishes. It makes Fluffy feel better already. xo mj
  18. Oh Alex. Thanks for the help. I'll start the MM right away. It will be a challenge for my fish sitter over the New Year, but we'll see how it goes. I really appreciate it. mj
  19. Here's a video of her swimming up to the top. She pushes her whole head out of the water and grabs some air. Then she sinks back down, releasing bubbles from her mouth. Then she goes back to sitting on the bottom with the heavy breathing. I'm getting worried...this has been going on all day. <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid1136.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn494%2Fmjbubbles4%2F20121223_141616.mp4"> Should I begin the Prazi protocol, or something else? Thanks guys! mj & Fluffy
  20. Thanks for your comments everyone. I've been standing by with camera to try and catch the swimming...will keep trying. I have not started Prazi yet Cuz I wanted an expert opinion...more to come.
  21. I have noticed brighter colors and my white fish is getting a yellow belly. She also has grown some more orange freckles.on her back. I will weigh then today at wc time and see if they have grown that way too.
  22. Hi Guys. Fluffy has been spending a lot of time floating updside down at the top of the tank the last few months, and seemed much better with eating Repashy. Now, she is bottom sitting, breathing heavily, and will occasionally rouse herself to swim up to the top for a big gulp of air...then she sinks back town, releasing bubbles from her mouth. She's seeming worse today so I thought I'd start this D&D thread...since I have a few days off and can actually do some treatment. Here are the details: Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level (tank): <1 * Nitrite Level (tank) 0 * Nitrate level (Tank) 10 - 20 * Ammonia Level (Tap): <.25 * Nitrite Level (Tap) 0 * Nitrate level (Tap) 0 * Ph Level, (Tank) (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 6.8 * Ph Level, (Tap) (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 6.8 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Fluval 405 canister, & Whisper 20 * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime & Exel Flourish * Water temperature? 68 - 70 * How often do you change the water and how much? 80% every 7-10 days * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 80% 7 days ago * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 55 gallons, 1 year, but I've had Fluffy for 2 years. * How many fish in the tank and their size? Fluffy the ryukin 3" body, Hercule the fantail 3" body, Jelly 2" body, Emma the eggfish 2.5" body; 4 White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 4 nerites (2 small, 2 large) * What do you feed your fish and how often? Repashy 2x per day (Soilent green & meat pie), fast 1 day a week, leafy green veggies 1-2 times a week, blood worm occasionally. * Any new fish added to the tank? no * Any medications added to the tank? no * List previous issues experienced (dropsy, SBD, etc.) mild dropsy about 1 year ago, floating after eating for the last few months. This improved a lot with the repashy, but still happened almost every day., * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? White bacterial spot on tail fin (on 2 of the fish) and split tail fins. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Sits on bottom, breathing heavy...sometimes seems to stop breathing. Will occasionally (2-3 times an hour) swim quickly up to surface, take a big gulp of air, then sink back down releasing bubble from her mouth. Fluffy eats like normal...it's the only time she rouses herself from the bottom. The other fish seem a bit listless, and Hercule has a white spot on tail as well. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. I treated with Prazi & salt a year ago when adding new fish. That's really it for this tank. * You can really help us to identify with the concern more accurately if you post some pictures and a short video. Here's a short video of her : and with her head in the bushes: I am thinking that it may be flukes, and have 2 doses of Prazi on hand, and Metro meds/JumpStart. I added 9T of salt this morning to bring salt to .01% to address the bacterial spot. Planning to do a big waterchange today...hopefully you'll be able to help me come up with a treatment plan that I can start doing. Thanks a lot, everyone!
  23. Lovely! They are really growing and look very happy. I like the way the tank is looking, too.
