  1. Red bean is all fine. Kuma would swim and chase around with Red Bean. But he does sleep alot on the bottom. He does not have any flashing. or anything looks like flukes. They did have flukes before. That's a year ago. They all cure since. Kuma is always the groofy one. So I did not pay too much attention to him sleeping. but it starts getting to me that he just sleeps way too much. He really has no any unusual behavior. He eats, poops, play with me and Red Bean. I got them about 2 years ago. They were tiny babies.... I assume that they wil be 3 this year????? Thanks for all the response. :| I hope that He is just lazy....... :} XOXO

  3. Did a 50% water change. Cleaned up all the walls for them. Bloodworms for lunch. Maybe some homemade food for dinner. Kuma is always happy to have water change. Always chase me around.
  4. Hello Forum mates, Haven't been on the Forum for awhile. Life has been keeping me fairy busy.... I just have this question. And it's been bothering me for awhile. Kuma fish has been sleeping alot. By alot, I mean, everytime I look at him, he's sleeping on the bottom of the tank. But when I walk up to the tank, he's super fast and "happy" to swim up to see me (think about food.) He, of course, begs for food and after I put in food, he would happily eat and swim around for a bit Then, he would go back to the bottom and sleep. He always sleeps at one of the corner too. Red Bean on the other hand, just swims non stop. Even at night, she does not sleep on the bottom, always floating. 55 gal tank has been more than a year old. Change 50% a week. Test water every week Ammonia 0, Nitrates 0, Nitrites 5-10. If Nitrites is higher, will immediate change more water out. Only 2 fancy in there (Kuma and Red Bean). temp is 74degree. 2 Marineland Emperor 400. There's been no sickness, nothing change, same diet/food. There's nothing unusual with them at all. My friend said I just worry too much. But I am WORRIED! Is he just simply bored? or he is just tired???? Do Goldfish show "old age" like human? I mean... when we were young/youthful, we jump/run non stop.... but when we get older.... we tend to like to sleep more Do any of your fish sleep alot too???????? Am I going crazy here? Thanks in advance. Best Xeno.
  5. I used to use the buckets too. I managed to cut the 1gal water bucket and use it to do water change... and it usually last forever.... (I have an injure back and shoulders so I can't pyshcially lift anything heavier.) My friend saw me one time and told me "that's stupid!" and he went out and got me the siphon from Pet Store and a garden hose from home improvement store.... plug one end to the end of the siphon hose and put the other end to the yard... The suckon was great and it only took me 10 mins to do the water change and I do not even lift anything. Now finally water change is not such a horrible day for me.
  6. Did a large water change. wipe down all the surfaces. Then some Bloodworms as treats. Kuma fish ate them all up like some cotton candy Also working on the new 55g tank. Hopefully will get it done by next week.
  7. Yes. They remember! They do know people as well. Their tank is right next to the computer desk and they always go to the side of the desk and look what are we doing there. Sometimes if I watch Netflix on the computer..... they actually stay there and I think that they are watching movies with me. hahahahahaha (Only if I can share my popcorns with them.) hahahaha They would come to me, but they refuse to go near one of my housemates as he never fed them. They also learn to give me a kiss before food. (they just kiss my figner .) They are so smart. And yes, they never bark. They never demand to go for a walk when it's snowing and raining outside. They don't smell or refuse to take a bath after playing in the mud. hahaha I can go on and on and on about why fishy is great.
  8. Hello All. A belated Happy Holiday!!!!! My last box of aquarium salt was finished. Recently, my local drugstore has Epsom Salt on sale. Of course, I bought couple bags of them. I know that we can use canning salt to treat sicky fishy. But can we use Epsom Salt???? And what's it mainly for? I know that Epsom salt has mineral in it. I think that I read it somewhere that some people use Epson salt on goldfish. But I want to ask members here to get the information. Thanks in advance. Xeno.
  9. hahahahaha. that's funny. But yes, I have been looking on Craigslist to try to get some tanks. I ended up at Pet$mart and get just the tank for $11 for 10 gal (it's for my baby crayfish). If it's on sale, it should be way cheaper. (I had to get it for the time-being). Sometimes, you do get lucky with cheap nice tank. I once picked up a 30 gals with everything (filter, light, brand new still sealed filter media, rocks, net.. etc...) for $10. The seller said she was given and it's been sitting in her basement for years... and she just wanted it "out"! I also once saw an ad for 125 gals free.... the seller just wanted it out. (yes, you had to pick it up yourself... and his apartment was on the 3rd floor.... no evaluator... hahahaha. I did not have space to house a 125 gals...) but I agree that most of the sellers are asking for way too much money for what it's worth. (the whole idea is... stuff on craigslist should be cheaper.... and I think some sellers just trying to use this point to try to sell their stuff more than what it's really worth.) Just my 2 cents... I am always check with different websites and LFS for deals.... and make sure that I am not paying more than what it's worth.
  10. Yes, I think plants love fishy water. I just started to use fishy water to water my veg/herb garden. and I have to say compare to last year, my berries and tomato are getting HUGH. This year, I start lettuces and they turn out growing crazy too. I think fishy water is just great for plants' growth. IMHO. I just feel bad to "waste" the water...
  11. Hello Everybody, Haven't been online for awhile... but I really feel like to write this down... Starting last night, I found that Kuma has been upside down.... swimming on top of the tank.... He always is a bubble eater and I think that he's getting worse when I haven't been around to feed them every so often. So... I went out to get some peas (finished all peas and never got around to get more). And I started feeding him peas... at first, I actually needed to hold him in my hand and make him eat the peas (his situation was so bad that he could not even get the food). At first, he fight but once he realized that food was getting in his mouth, he started to accept the fact that he was being hold to get fed. After a couple mouth full of peas, he swam around... then ahhhhhhhh BUBBLES coming out from his butt. ahhhhhh yukkkkkkkssssssss hahahaha then, he started swimming around like nothing ever happened. so he and Red Bean will be on "no-food diet" for next 2 days... and more peas. I never saw goldfish "fart" but I think... they really do. hahahahaha but it is a lesson for him to eat so many bubbles. X
  12. Just a little updated for the Emperor 400. Ashlee, I think that I somehow need to agree with you. After a month and overfeeding..... the filter seemed "less noisy"..... I am not sure if I just get used to it... or it's really need some time to get "gunky" to make less noise.... and it sucks up "dirt" like crazy.... I wash the filter pad once a week (of course with the tank water) when I do regular water change. and the water is so clean and clear... even with overfeeding... (my friends and housemates LOVE to feed them...) so far... I am happy with it. Thanks all XOXO
  13. It's exciting last week. I went to P**Co and my favor LFS last week... P**Co -- Finally, new plants came in that day. And my waiting was over -- Banana plants! They had 4, but I only got 2 and some others (they are doing buy 3 get 1 free = $9 for 4 plants) They are in very good shape too and Kuma agrees and says "yum!" LFS -- have been wanting some CPO crayfish for awhile for my shrimps tank. Instead, I got a pretty Australian Orange Crayfish. He is very cute. He is only a inch long with very tiny claws, but he keeps waving his claws whenever I look at him. I think that he is trying to tell me "Look at my claws! Look at my claws!" When I drop the algae tablet for him, he just came to grab it right away and bought it back to his house(cave). LFS also has some great Koi. Some of them are pure sliver and pure gold. I want them so bad... but I have no place to house them. Still trying to collect plants for my shrimp tank.... it will be a long project. XOXO
  14. Hello All, I recently purchased my Emperor 400 (it's on sale at Dr. Foster with rebate, it's a pretty good deal) thinking to slowly upgrading my tank. I did everything it told me to, and put in the filter media... etc... 1) I found that the new model has no flow control..... (as I started to google this... it's been a problem for the new model dated after 2007.... they changed the design and took out the flow control.) Now, it's not too "big" a problem for me... as Kuma and Red Bean are big enough not throw around the tank ( in fact, Kuma loves to hang out the flow.... it is his personal ride. ) But when it comes to feeding time.... You have to watch out and make sure they the fishes eat their food instead of getting suck into the filter..... Some posts suggested to turn off the filter during feeding... but it is too troublesome every time you feed your little guys... 2) The noise level is rather "loud" I am sitting across the room and still able to hear the motor running. My tank water level is very high so it's not the splashing noise.. it's from the motor. Again, googled and found that they "might" use cheap stuff... and that created more noise than the old model. long time users with old model all praised this emperor 400.... but the new model seems a little "not as good." Now, my question is... Anyone here have the new model???? And what do you do with the noise? Can I actually do something about it. I just put the filter in 3 days ago... so it's "NEW". 2nd, anyway to slow down the water flow without turn it off during feeding time? I mean the filter seems good and it does seem to suck up lots of "dirty stuff" but again.... the noise and water flow just a little too much...... Just trying to seek suggestions.... and if anyone has the same experiences... and "solution".... Thanks in advance... XOXO
