  1. *sighs* so i'm going to go out and have to tell my mom that the nightmare is back??? More money going down the drain because then somehting doesn't work or is wrong, only to fall into more walls?? I can't do it The more I work with them the more I realize that they aren't snakes. You cannot just forget to feed them one week and the next they'll be fine. You can't let the tank go months without cleaning because then it'll turn into a swamp. They don't fit my lifestyle and I can't keep this up... The tank isn't 20 gallons, it's 29-30 gallons. Love-A-Lot is an incredibly stunted comet and Hercules is probably stunted too from being kept in a 5 gallon tank with 18 other fish his size for two weeks. The pleco won't sell easily seeing as he needs a 6 foot tank and can't be kept with goldfish or other plecos. My mom has told me numerous times she hates the care that goes into them.....but right now they are so weak I can't ignore them. I need to act now before I even think of re-homnig them... but if anyone wants them, just tell me :(
  2. [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? Low- 0.75 [*]Nitrite Level? Low - 0.05 [*]Nitrate level? Low - 0 [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? pH-7.4 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? ??? [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Unknown (will look afterwards) [*]Water temperature? 71? [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 29 gals, since August? [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Filter size - 20 gals, brand, ??? [*]How often do you change the water and how much? At least every 2 weeks, about 100%, but I change gravel once a month [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? Love A Lot, 3', Hercules 2 1/2', Plecostomus (re-homing soon) 3' [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Aqua-Safe [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? Once a day, Total Goldfish flakes [*]Any new fish added to the tank? No, but I added Hercules and Spike a month or so ago. [*]Any medications added to the tank? No [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Love a Lot is missing about 3-4 scales!! [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Eating fine, clamped fins, lethargicness and then sudden outbursts of craziness, drifting to the bottom and then jumping to the top, Hercules attacking Lovie!! (main concern is the attacking!!) Help! I have no idea what to do I am really at the end of the rope. In no offensive way at all, I've not had such trouble with any other pets. as much as it hurts I am highly considering re-homing as I have no more energy, time, money and soon interest to care for these fish as much as I love them. What should I do?
  3. Thanks guys they are doing way better and I am continuing the water changes. I did a nitrite test and even though the strips can be misleading, it was pure white and there was no pink on it what-so-ever, so at least I can say it has gone down a BIT
  4. ^^I didn't get to edit in time. Spike is NOT a common pleco, he is a bristlenose. Just so you know
  5. Um...they aren't gulping anymore They've stopped since yest, lol, but thanks for the suggestion It's nitrite levels but I am sorting that.
  6. Woot, my first post other than an intro and panic posts about stressed goldfish LOL! Love-A-Lot: Is really full of character. She's very smart AND dumb. I put in her food and she began attacking the side of the tank because she saw the food's reflection, haha! But when I show her the food container she goes straight to the top! She's also a wimp: she hates when I put my hand in the tank: it means there is a cleaning and she gets to spend 5 minutes in a bowl with Hercules and Spike. Hercules: Our new goldy acts like he's Hercules, but he's a little softy deep down. He shadows Love-A-Lot, always and acts as if she is his protector! He loves to zip around the tank too, but then he gets tired and mellows out. Spike: Not much to say about Spike. He's pretty tolerant for a Pleco and puts up with a lot, but I know he'll probably need to be re-homed when he gets too big. He likes algae wafers and loves to eat and hide. I do love my fishies!!!
  7. No, we have one but it's broke. I'm going to do a 50% once a day instead of 25% 2x a day. I changed it this morning and they are acting fine
  8. I agree, they are acting so happy I love her tail, it's always been so pretty And I like the mix of orange and white! Thanks Thank you!! I am so glad you guys think I'm doing well because I am really trying. Hercules was "hopping" at the top of the tank gulping air so I offered him some food. He ate it and is doing fine now, swimming around. Thank you so much I luffs you guys!
  9. These pics were taken a few minutes ago: You can see the improvement!! Lovie's fin in that last one was only down for one second: it popped right back up again afterwards. They look so much better! Tomorrow morning I'll do a 25% then in the evening 25% and keep this up until I get the water tester! THANK YOU MILLIONS!
  10. Well what are they supposed to live in overnight? I only have a small bowl for them, and I don't think the Pleco will like that AT ALL.
  11. Ok, so, I'll do one water change in the morning and evening, 25%, which shouldn't be hard at all seeing as my tactic is "take out buckets of water at a time" and I can do half the tank in about 5 minutes. And even though the water and stuff probably still isn't fully correct, I would say that the fish perking up is at least a sign I am progresing. They haven't been "floating at the top" in hours, besides the small little "OMG did I see food?!?!" thing that goldfish do \ I have also noted Love-A-Lot's fin is no longer clamped, it's pretty much fully up again. I'll continue with the water changes until I can get a test kit (which my mom approved as long as I won't need much more)
  12. Well guys, all I can say is that I have done all I can to heal my fish. My mom is no longer willing to buy anything else for me. Happily, Love-A-Lot's fin is no longer clamped: it's almost all the way up and she is no longer lingering near the top. I offered her some food because she had not been eating too great and she gulped it down happily. She swims around normally now. Little Hercules is still sometimes going up towards the top but he is following Love-A-Lot around more now and they are no longer up at the top, their fins are up too, and the Pleco is eating an algae wafer. This is exciting for me only because at the pet shop the poor thing looked very hungry and he is slightly skinny. But he is getting plenty of chow now I may do a 25% water change tomorrow but right now they seem to be *almost* back to normal (since I can't tell for sure) and I don't want to risk disturbing them. Also, I forgot to add that our filter breaks down nitrate, nitrite and ammonia. I turned off the light because I also heard fish prefer it darker. I've done everything in my power to help them and that's not to stay I still won't get the test kit (I will try to raise some $$ for it) but I don't want to take any risk. I'll continue doing 25% water changes every other day until I can get the test kit. Thanks for all your help You guys are the greatest. Lovie and Hercules may not have made a recovery if I didn't have all your help. I'll definatley be back
  13. Ugh it's just...okay, how much should I change? I have no real way of knowing what the levels are so how do I know if they are *NOT* high and they are fine?? Please help everytime I change the tank they do that weird floaty thingy. I really think I should just leave them be and add aquarium salt or something.
  14. Really guys I think I'm doing a bit of a sucky job. My mom and I have been fighting like heck lately because she thinks "Oh the fish is fine it's fine" and she wants to go to my grandfather who spend 20+ years with fish who says, "Oh just keep the goldfish in a bowl" and "Change it all once a month" for answers. She has been making me feel real bad lately because she keeps calling him and sayin things like, "she's just going ridiculously far for this dumb fish" and I have no idea how I am supposed to get a tester when she will not even let me change the water :*( EDIT: also the last time I did the nitrite, I did it wrong. You were supposed to dip it in and leave it for 30 seconds. I left it in for 30 seconds. So it may not be correct.
  15. I just did another one. The nitrite is down to in between 0 and 0.5. I'll look at that test kit too. EDIT: Love-A-Lot and Hercules and no longer swimming at the top and Love-A-Lot's backfin is up again. I hope that the this is the slightest sign that it's getting better.
