  1. So Sushi is still in the bucket. The 'pimples appeared to pop, but now there is another one forming. She is swimming, eating and seems to even enjoy her daily inspections, but still has the pimples. Is she contagious to the other fish? I have continued with salt and added Pimafix - it seemed to help. She is getting daily water changes. I would like her to be able to go back to the big tank, but not if she is contagious. Help me put please.
  2. I just picked her up to check on her - the white cysts are gone. The scales where they were look disturbed, but no white stuff. There are long (6 inch) stringy things wrapped around the air tube. Could be poop, but it is just the string - no poo in it at all. It doesn't appear to be alive, but I did not disect it.
  3. No redness. They started out as a bump, then the white appeared from under the scale. She is a pretty bright orange calico tho, so I might be missing redness. I do not have another QT tank, this caught me by surprise- they have been happy and healthy for the year I have had them. I guess this is what I get for upgrading their tank!
  4. I didn't think it was ich so thank you for confirming. It looks like something growing out from under several of her scales. Exactly like a zit or worm. I am doing water changes in her quarantine bucket, but it is weird that it showed up after a 100% W/C, tank move. Can it spread to the other 2 fish? If it is stress induced and only her, I would like to get her back in the big tank, but if it is contagious, she'll have to stick it out in the bucket.
  5. It is hard to get a pic and with her coloring even more difficult, but no they are not breeding stars. The biggest one is on her back. I have her quarantined in a bucket but it is not the best set up - airstone, but no filter.
  6. I figured they would be a little stressed, but this looks more like a parasite and I have no clue where it could have come from unless it has been there for a year and is just manifesting because of her stress. I put her in a quarantine bucket with an airstone so she is going to stress even more.
  7. So I have had my 3 round cuties for a year with no health issues. I just recently moved them to a 29 gallon tank with extra filtration and now one has what appears to be whitespot. There have been no new fish or new anything but the brand new tank - which I sterilized with vinegar and sunshine before putting them in. I cycled the new tank with the old media for 24 hours. So I guess my question is... how long can a parasite live in a fish before it manifests? It started out looking like 2 bumps but now there is white coming out from under the scales - like a zit. She is swimming and eating normally. Her poop is very stringy and white and lumpy.
  8. My local W has stopped selling fish. I think it is mostly because something broke in their tank system because it just says 'Out of order' and the tanks are still there after 6 months, but I am not looking a gift fish in the mouth so to speak.
  9. Thanks for the warm hugs and kind words. I was wondering about the betta thing and being a surface breather. It was so awful tho that I will not attempt it again. Hopefully I won't have to. The only consolation is that he was suffering and dying slowly and this sped it up and ended the slow death.
  10. I am pretty sure if I ever have to do it again, I will have my hubby cut their head off. I couldn't do it, but he is much more practical than I.
  11. I honestly think I would rather boil - which completely freaks me out- but would at least be fast.
  12. So my daughter brought her betta home from college at Thanksgiving because he had a fungus on his mouth. We salted and did water changes and it seemed better. Then he shed his entire slime coat and just sat on the bottom. We kept up with the water changes and he was eating and seemed ok til a week ago when he was just so lethargic and pitiful looking. I saw he was pineconing last night so I decided to use the clove oil today. I mixed it per the directions and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. He struggled and tried to jump out and thrashed and was in HUGE distress. I had to cover the container and leave the room in tears. He was gone when I checked back 10 minutes later, but I will NEVER use that method again. It was truly horrific and I am still sick to stomach.
  13. She definitely gets her share of food and she can get where she needs to go. She has always been a little "floatier" than the others, but the upside down has been about a month now. I have had her for about 6 months. I am wondering if she might be a little sensitive to the cold. Their temp was around 76 in the summer and is about 62 now, but she can swim well when she flips herself back upright, so I just don't know. I will keep an eye on her but I think maybe she has just discovered a new game.

[no]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? [she floats around upside down - but when she sees me, she flips back upright and swims normally.]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? I am perplexed - Egg is a VERY egg shaped ranchu. She is chubby to say the least, but eats about the same amount as her tank mates. She can swim normally, and does when she sees me near the tank, but if I sneak up on her, she is ALWAYS floating and swimming upside down. She is more shy than her tankmates as well, so I think she feels vulnerable when upside down, but I really think she likes it. I realize that I am overstocked, but I keep track of the water parameters and plan on moving them to the big tank when they can handle the bigger fish and bigger current. They are in a 20 long and growing nicely. So I guess my question is--should I be concerned - or just keep up with my water changes and keep an eye on her.
